Traces of Peter Rice, an Arup documentary
This new documentary film from Arup explores the life, career and legacy of Peter Rice, the celebrated RIBA Gold Medal-winning engineer who died 20 years ago this year. The film, which is available on Arup #39;s website (video.arup.com) and here on Arup #39;s YouTube channel, was commissioned as part of the #39;Traces of Peter Rice #39; exhibition currently on display at the Arup Phase 2 gallery in London. The film examines Peter #39;s approach to engineering and to design and shows how his way of working broadened the horizons for both engineers and architects in his lifetime, a legacy that is still relevant today. The film features interviews with many of those architects, designers and engineers he collaborated with, including Lord Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano, Sir Jack Zunz, Ian Ritchie, Martin Francis, Amanda Levete, Barbara Campbell-Lange, Michael Dowd, Andy Sedgwick, Tristram Carfrae, Bruce Danziger and Sophie Le Bourva. It also includes interviews with renowned opera director Humbert Camerlo; Professor Kevin Barry, who edited an accompanying book to the #39;Traces of Peter Rice #39; exhibition; Sylvia Rice, Peter #39;s widow; Professor Maurice Rice, Peter #39;s brother; and Kieran Rice, Peter #39;s son and Chairman of RFR Group. RFR is the Paris-based engineering consultancy that Peter formed in the early 1980s with Ian Ritchie and Martin Francis, to work on the ground-breaking Paris-based project, La Villette.
