Q: Hi Ed, I enjoy your column and have read some of your past articles on small bathroom remodeling jobs. But I have not seen my particular question addressed. What are some space-saving ideas to keep in mind when trying to install a "two-person" bathtub in a smaller bathroom area? Donald, R.I.

A: With today's new compact tub designs, it is possible to get some extra bathing room with a smaller footprint than traditional larger size bath tubs. Basically, you can choose from two styles depending on what may best fit your bathroom.

First, you can look at a deep-wall soaking tub. This type of bathtub usually fits standard tub spaces, but it can have arm and back rests on both sides of the tub along with a deeper wall design. This allows the users to be in a more seated position while still enjoying a deeper soaking experience.

Second, you can check out a corner-mounted bath. The corner-style layout minimizes the footprint but still provides some extra bathing room by using up the corner area. Both of these styles can be set up with whirlpool or bubble jets for extra comfort, proving that good things can still come in small packages.
