Carpets in the home look so stylish but they can be a nightmare to maintain.

Whether its pet hairs or someone dragging their dirty shoes or socks through the room, carpets are tricky to keep clean.

But there is nothing worse than a spilled stain on a crisp and clean carpet. So annoying and can be a nightmare to remove!

Thanks to the surge in popularity in cleaning influencers such as Mrs Hinch and Stacey Solomon, homeowners love to hear any tips or tricks that can make cleaning the house an easy task.

And when one woman asked for advice on how to remove stains from carpets in Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips, she was met with a flurry of responses.

Anything the mum tried so far hadnt worked and was super eager to remove the stain. And from the series of comments, it was clear to see that one household item was a hit with the groups members, who hailed it as a fail-safe way to clean carpets.

She explained on the page:"My little boy decided to decorate my carpet with a bingo dauber.

"Ive tried carpet cleaner, vanish, washing powder and hairspray. Its not budging can anyone suggest something else please?

One wrote: "Nail varnish remover! I use it to get hair dye out carpet."

A second homeowner agreed, stating: "Nail varnish remover!"

While a third commented to recommend a different product: "Gentle eye makeup remover! And blot it, dont rub it."

The mum then updated the post to thank everyone for their advice and said she would give the nail varnish remover a go.

Nail varnish remover is widely available in supermarkets and pharmacies and retails from as little as 2.

So next time a spillage or stain occurs on your lovely clean carpet, this tip could be exactly what you need.

Remember, your carpet doesnt need to be visibly stained for it to be cleaned.

Ideally, you should have it cleaned professionally once a year.

You can also maintain it by hoovering twice a week and cleaning any visible stains once they appear.

If you have pets or children at home, your carpet could benefit from being cleaned up to seven times a week.
