Winegar & Sons Floorcovering - a 31-year-old, family-owned business owned and run by founder Wayne Winegar and his two sons Curtis and Alan Winegar - is a full service business, offering customers personalized assistance from the store to their homes.

Winegar & Sons pride themselves on their high level of service and knowledge of new flooring products in the latest trends of hard surfaces, and more specifically hardwood.

"When we first started out, we sold only carpet and vinyl," Curtis Winegar said. "Lately, a third of our business is hardwood... within the last seven years we've started really getting into it."

Curtis said Winegar & Sons deals only with prefinished hardwood of which there are two kinds: engineered and solid.

The kind of hardwood best suited for a home depends on the specific owner's need for it as well as its placement within the house. The first question Curtis said he asks customers is "where are you putting it? Above grade or below grade (underground/basement)?"

Engineered hardwood is more stable than solid hardwood and is often better for homes in this area because it's more sustainable to moisture, Curtis explained.

"Solid hardwood can expand and contract which leads to cupping. Engineered hardwood, because of cross laminating, will not move... there are only certain places you can put solid in a house. You can put engineered everywhere."
