Progress on North Canterbury Health Hub set to accelerate - January 15, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Progress on the North Canterbury Health Hub is set to accelerate following the appointment of project managers and architects.

Canterbury District Health Board is pleased to announce the appointment of RCP (Resource Coordination Partnership) as the Project Manager for the Rangiora Health Hub development and Trengrove Architects as the lead designer for the project.

Carolyn Gullery, Canterbury DHB General Manager Planning and Funding, says the appointments are a welcome step towards progressing this important project.

"Were delighted to have made the appointments of RCP and Trengrove and have every confidence in their abilities to shape this development and engage with the North Canterbury community.

"RCP have extensive experience in the development of numerous health facilities both nationally and internationally. In addition RCP are currently engaged with a number of Canterbury DHB redevelopment and remediation programmes and come with a good understanding of the way we work in Canterbury.

"Trengrove are also the architects for the Kaikoura health facility, so bring with them an understanding of health design."

Carolyn says the Canterbury Health System is looking forward to seeing the first sod turned on this project, but is mindful it has some major projects underway, including the North Canterbury Hub.

"Canterbury DHB is currently managing 160 repair and building projects, excluding the Burwood and Christchurch Hospital facilities redevelopment, so we appreciate the North Canterbury communitys ongoing support in progressing their health hub."

Carolyn says a public meeting is being scheduled for early March.

"As its really important we continue to engage with the community about services that will operate out of the hub in addition to the current services working out of Rangiora Hospital," she says.

Two Seattle projects among national architecture winners - January 14, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

We'll start with The Pierre, a residence in the San Juan Islands, designed by Olson Kundig Architects of Seattle. According to a project writeup: "The Pierre, French word for 'stone,' is a 2,500-square-foot residence inspired by the owners affection for a stone outcropping on her property and the views from the site.Conceived as a bunker nestled into the rock, from certain angles the house with its rough materials, green roof, and surrounding lush foliage almost disappears into nature."

"The excavation of the building inside the living rock on this site is really quite incredible; the drilled stone exposed to the interior is amazing."

"This is a house that challenges convention and succeeds."

"This project is a beautiful design response to a beautiful setting. It has a fascinating medieval-modern feel; exquisitely crafted."

Jury comments included: "The juxtaposition of the built and the...

The Pierre also won an Interior Architecture Honor Award.According to a writeup:"Throughout the house, the rock extrudes into the space, contrasting with the textures of the furnishings.
