Looking into glass vanity sink top -
March 22, 2014 by
Mr HomeBuilder
Q: My husband and I have been saving for years, and now were in the planning stages for our master-bathroom remodeling job.
Our decorator has suggested glass vanity sink tops for a dramatic look.
But I want to get a plumbers opinion on using glass for the countertops and sink. What do you think about using glass?
Anna
A: Glass vanity tops can make a unique design statement in your bathroom because of the wide variety of color and texture choices. Glass also has another advantage: Because its translucent, special backlighting can be used under the vanity top to create a very dramatic effect.
As far as durability goes, thick and heavy glass slabs are usually used to create the sink and top.
The final product is called a slumped glass bathroom sink because the sink and vanity top are one seamless piece. You can get glass vanity tops with faucet holes installed, or use wall-mounted faucets to eliminate having any faucet holes on the sink top.
Glass is considered a higher-end material for vanity tops, so get prices up front to help with your final decision.

Typical costs: Remodeling costs vary widely depending on the shape and square footage of the existing room, whether walls or plumbing are moved, and the quality of materials used. According to an annual construction cost survey by Remodeling Magazine, a mid-range remodel of a 5x7-foot bathroom averages $14,109-$18,864; for an upscale expansion of a 5x7 bathroom to 9x9-feet within the existing house footprint, costs run $46,865-$59,456. Im currently remodeling my lower level bathroom. The same work for a client i would charge about 7500 for a custom bathroom remodel! Here's the math to demo and rebuild my bath room! Avg price for tile, toilet, custom shower base, vanity and plumbing fixtures with lighting about 2500 for materials multiply that by 2 for your labor cost! Remember this! You get what you pay for
We redid our bathroom with new tile on floors and walls as well as a new double vanity and paint.we hired Jdh home improvement they did an amazing job.in addition they were very professional and polite. We will be using them again.Jeremy 401-688-3639 there website is http://www.jdhhomeimprovement.com
Had a small leak that ruined the vinyl floor in our guest bathroom - and after 10 years it needed a little sprucing up. So we retile the bathtub surround, tiled the floor, swapped the position of the toilet and vanity and replaced the shower controllers. I did all the work myself..took 7 hard days of work. The tile - at the time- seemed to be going fast but the hours fly buy so i spent 4 days just on the tile. We also picked what we wanted and didnt worry about price too much. The tile was $6 or so a square foot OUCH. the vanity top which was cambria was $600 OUCH OUCH. Got a great deal on the vanity from woodmark. Shower controller and faucet from delta were another $1000. Ouch ouch ouch. It does look great. The price was a little above the budget we got from http://www.remodelormove.com cost calculators but hope this bathroom lasts 20 years..that is only $175 or so a year..not too bad 🙂
Gutted 1956 Bathroom and did considerable structural repair from water damage. Rearranged room for more efficient layout. $3400 in materials and $4300 in labor. Rewired, redid hvac, new plumbing (old cast iron removed), travertine on floor, mid-grade faucets (moen), dual floating vanity, new glass door into bathroom, new window, tile around soaking tub/shower and travertine floor. We also spent extra on epoxy grout...your spouse will love you forever knowing they never need to clean grout ever again. It's pricey, but definitely consider it. Best money I've every spent...project took 10 days exactly and ZERO stress.
A half bath remodel including all materials ($750+) and labor ($500+) but wall paint (done by myself). New toilet, 26"W dark wood cabinet, sink, faucet, wood-framed mirror, ceramic tiles (floor and baseboard), threshold, lighting, switches, towel hanger, toilet paper holder installed. I did not compromise with cheap materials, and still the total cost was much cheaper than I expected. Since half baths are often on the 1st floor and guests frequently use it, it is a good investment!
gutted, and installed granite on floors, 5 feet up walls, in shower and tub. platinum fixtures, hand thrown, fully functional toilet and double sink.
We spent $3,385.00 on labor for total gut and some drywall, this also includes tile work, plumbing and electrical work. We spent $3,055.14 total on materials which include a deep soaking bathtub, with wall surround, new Kohler toilet, beautiful tile for the floor and tall vanity which we got at Lowes. We splurged on Pottery Barn Mirror and certain fixtures, curved shower curtain which we love. Some replumbing had to happen, also some electrical work had to be done. We are happy with the results.
I took thiis job on myself. Framed out a section of room, corner shower, tile surround and floor, electrical, window install, exhaust fan/heat unit install, sheetrock and paint, copper plumbing (quick connects and solder), install all hardware- 150-160 hrs not inluding shopping trips.
I have a very very very small bathroom, 5x6 wall to wall, with a shorty tub and shower. I went out and got quote after quote after quote. all in different ball parks, one guy said $9,000, another $7,000, one $5900. the prices were all over the place and for such a small bathroom and for economy tile and fixtures was way to high for my budget. I ended up having a friend do it on the weekends for $2000 and i bought all the material. In the end it cost me $4,300 but with all high end fixtures, tile, and sink. It pays to get more than 3 estimates!
