Small Bathroom Remodel Cost Guide - August 19, 2018 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Updated:November 11, 2015

Cost Summary of Small Bathroom Remodeling

    Typical Price Range = $1,000 to $15,000+Average Cost = $8,000-$10,000Best/Cheapest Price = $100-$400Typical Hourly Rate = $50-$75 per hour

When you are remodeling a small bathroom, you need to make sure that your costs are always in the forefront of your mind.

Keep in mind that although the average small bathroom remodel costs around $9,000, that your labor & materials costs will vary depending on location and quality of fixtures you choose.

One of the major influences over the small bathroom remodel cost you will have to bear is the type of layout you select. If the new layout will require you to do a lot of renovating, then your prices will go up significantly. Renovating includes taking down walls and putting up wall components like dividers.

Selecting a layout that is simple and works well with your current bathroom will help bring down costs significantly. This is because contractors wont have to completely redo your piping, electric wiring, or anything else. Since the largest expense with a bathroom remodel is labor, this can save quite a lot of money.

The materials for the average small bathroom remodel will cost between $8,000 and $10,000. This includes new fixtures like a new toilet, new sink, and a new bathtub. It also includes the cost of new tiling, new cupboards, and a countertop for the sink.

The cost of your materials can go up quickly if you want any specialized fixtures or if you need the bathroom to be handicapped-accessible. If you need the bathroom to be handicapped-accessible, then the material costs can go up another $2,000 or $3,000.

As a general rule, most people expect that the labor for a remodel will cost roughly twice as much as the materials did. This is not a hard and fast rule, but the numbers generally support the claim. On average, a bathroom remodeling job will cost you around twice as much as the materials cost you.

For a small bathroom of roughly 100 square feet, labor costs could run an average of $12,000 or $13,000 on the high end. This would include the labor to completely redo tile, completely install new fixtures, complete any necessary wiring and plumbing, and have everything inspected afterward. Never overlook the importance of having your wiring and plumbing inspected directly after the contractors finish. This can end up saving you a lot of money on repairs in the long run.

These numbers are based on a very small, full bathroom with a bathtub, sink, and toilet. They will vary from place to place and should only be viewed as a general estimate.

The project manager worked diligently and gave attention to minute details till they met his satisfaction. His experience was reflected in the way he was able to visualize exactly what changes I needed. Options were provided to me and I was immediately notified on the changes that were involved in later stages because of the existing construction of the building. Another quality that I was impressed with was their timeliness in terms of both their working hours and their arrival. It was little surprise then that the project was completed before its due time. The bathroom works great and is designed the right way to suit my needs. It was a wonderful experience working with you

Modern Bathroom Remodel – The Home Depot - July 29, 2018 by Mr HomeBuilder

As new home owners, Caitlin Kruse ofThe Mama Notesand her husband knew their first home needed some serious attention. First on their list was their dark and windowless hallway bathroom.

Caitlin knew that she wanted a light and airy space, so she moodboarded her dream bathroom and quickly said goodbye to the outdated space.

After two weeks of hard work, Caitlins modernbathroom remodel came together with gorgeous elements from the Home Decorators Collection. Make sure to look for the new skylight and rich pops of matte brushed gold hardware and lighting that add layers of interest to the room.

We bought our first home last May and knew we had a full plate of renovations on our hands after we got the keys! We fell in love with the location, yard and bones of our house but it was in need of serious updates.

Being first time home owners, weve never done a single home project and I was so eager to get startedafter all Id dreamed of being able to do this for so many years as we lived in rentals.

We decided to start with our hall bathroom first, since its what guests use and its in a high traffic area off our main hall. This is also the bathroom our one-year-old daughter uses and I was dying to have a nice, new tub for her baths.

Here are the scary before photos. As youll see we gutted the entire space, taking out everything floor to ceiling. Goodbye giant mirror and terra cotta tiles!

To start the process I made a moodboard of my modernbathroom remodel, and then turned to Home Decorators Collection to bring it to life.

Heres a peek at my initial plan for the bathroomlight, airy and mostly neutral so we can change out the accessories and paint over time as we like. We opted for classic white subway tile with gray grout from tub to ceiling and hexagon cararra marble floor tiling.

I knew I wanted to add a natural wood element and gold accentswhen I saw the Walden Vanity from Home Decorators Collection I knew it was the perfect fit for the space. I love how the gray toned wood picks up the color from the floor tiles and paint, tying it all together. Ive long loved Kohlers Purist collection and the matte brushed gold fixtures were just the modern piece the room was lacking.

After the design plan was in place, we got to work with the help of a contractor and my dad leading the team! First we added a tube skylight. This was my dads genius idea and I think we were all a little shocked at just how much light is let into the once dark, windowless room. On a sunny day there is no need to turn on the light at all. We plan to add one in our hall now, too! We had our contractor do install thisVelux Tubular Skylight, but it wasnt too complicated.

Our contractoralso got rid of that giant overhead light and configured the wiring for our dreamy gold sconce.

We took out our dated, wall mounted toilet and had a plumber re-configure it so we could install a simple, sleek design we picked up at Home Depot.

My husband and dad worked tirelessly on framing the space where our bath fitter tub once was. They hung cement board and worked on the plumbing for the shower and sink.

After what felt like forever we were finally ready to install our new tub and start tile work! We worked four long days on tiling the tub and floor. It was my first time doing it and I actually enjoyed the process!

I tested a few grout colors, but landed on Delorean Gray Sanded Grout and am so pleased with the results. Hopefully it wont show too much dirt (opposed to white) and I love the contrastit really ties the handles of our vanity and shower curtain rod together.

The tub is by far my favorite part of the roomI cant wait to take a long soak in it, and bathe my daughter here! The timeless combo of gold and white is one I know well love for a long, long time and Im already plotting how I can take this shower headand faucets to our next home (haha).

I picked this simpleoval mirror to hang under our gold sconce and then had fun with the accessories. Ive seen these bathroom ladders on Pinterest and knew I wanted to include one in this room in lieu of a traditional towel bar.

I landed on this Jacobs Ladder. Since its a small space it does take up room but it also offers extra storage for towels and bath supplies. It has additional baskets that I can add at a later time if I want and it also works well in an office or bedroom!

Instead of a traditional bath mat, I found this festival area rugon Home Decorators Collection and ordered it in the smallest sizeI love the color it adds! This wire basket works for a trash can, mimicking the wire baskets on the ladder.

So there you have it! Our modern bathroom remodel. We did the bulk of this in little over a week, working around the clock quickly to have the space ready by the holidays!

10 Best Bathroom Remodeling Trends | Bath Crashers | DIY - July 28, 2018 by Mr HomeBuilder

    1. Mediterranean-Inspired Design

Glitz meets Old-World style in these tiles inspired by ancient Mediterranean countries like Spain, Morocco and Portugal. The look elegantly combines the charm of hand-painted terra cotta with modern metallics.

Mosaic tile can add a rich look to your space. You don't need a lot to make a big statement. Try it as an accent in the shower or tub area, or as a backsplash in a half bath.

Old meets new in a fun way when classic arabesque patterns are mixed with retro 1970s colors.

Practical storage will never go out of style. Whenever possible, take advantage of vertical space and take your cabinetry up the wall.

If built-in cabinetry isn't an option, incorporate an interesting or antique piece of furniture.

Open shelving is still a popular trend that can also be quite practical in the bathroom.

Like denim jeans or a fisherman’s knit sweater, old-school white subway tile never goes out of style.

White subway tile can be paired with most any look. Make it the base for casual industrial style or dress it up with traditional-style furniture and fixtures for timeless look.

White subway is best used with a dark color grout like gray or black. Especially in the bathroom because it is less likely to get stained with mold and soap residue.

No-threshold showers along with comfort-height toilets, vanities and side-mount faucets are gaining in popularity for very practical reasons. Curbless showers are easier to clean, they make your bathroom look bigger, and they help homeowners to age in place.

Many homeowners are tearing out built-in bathtubs to create a combination bathtub/shower wet room. Ease of accessibility or being ADA-compliant can increase a home's resale value because you're offering potential buyers more options, plus the design aesthetic can look really cool.

Floating vanities are a big part of the ease-of-use trend because their height can be easily be customized. Plus, floating vanities can look more like a stylish piece of art or custom furniture.

Make a statement with fun patterns. These intertwining circles are a groovy combination of 1960s pop art and elegant art deco.

Three-dimensional tiles come in organic waves as well as symmetrical patterns.

Whether it's for relaxation or for practical reasons, bringing electronics into the bathroom is becoming more commonplace. Wireless speakers, Bluetooth devices and docking stations are being incorporated into bathroom mirrors, showerheads and vanities. Kohler has taken multitasking to a new level with its all-in-one showerhead and speaker combo.

Double the relaxation by binge-watching your favorite show while soaking in a warm bath.

A strategically placed TV can get you caught up with the latest news and weather while getting ready for your day.

Sometimes luxury can come in the form of a little extra-added warmth. Warm toes and a warm towel can make all the difference on a cold winter's morning. Radiant floor heat is energy efficient because the heat is touching your body, warming you from the bottom up.

If you can't swing the price of a new heating system. A towel warmer can provide warmth and comfort starting at around $100.

Fully enclosed steam showers with multiple showerheads are a luxury that is becoming more conventional in new homes and remodeled master bathrooms.

It's nice to have a place to sit and enjoy your Zen-like walk-in shower, thus built-in and portable benches are an extra-added luxury that doesn't have to break the budget.

A bathroom is the perfect place to get a little daring in your design choices. Try a set of unusual sconces, an ornate chandelier or a set of funky pendants.

This bathroom uses up-light and low lights to illuminate the vanity. Table lamps aren’t often thought of for the bathroom, but why not give it a try. You can always move them back into the living room if they don't work.

A variety of lighting offers practical and decorative advantages. This vanity unit is outfitted with overhead puck lights and a pair of sconces around the mirror to help you get ready in the morning. While the crystal ceiling fixture offers a touch of opulence and style.

If you've got the budget, you won’t regret implementing this trend into your bathroom remodel.

Ventless fire features make it easy and less expensive to add warmth to your new bathroom.

Not only will you add romance and luxury to your master suite, a fireplace will help increase your home's resale value.

The 10 Best Bathroom Remodelers Near Me (with Free Estimates) - July 24, 2018 by Mr HomeBuilder

Bathroom remodeling is made up of three general phases. The first phase is the planning and permitting phase, in which you determine exactly what you want, what materials and finishes will be used, and what the end product will look like. If youre competent with design you can handle the planning yourself, or you may hire an interior designer to guide you. During this phase youll also hire a general contractor who can help execute your remodel vision, coordinating and overseeing all the subcontractors required to do the bathroom remodeling (plumbers, flooring pros, etc.). When your plan is finalized, your contractor should obtain permits for the work you want done. During this time youll work together to order all the materials so theyll be ready and waiting when its time to start construction.

The second phase is construction. Bathroom remodeling typically starts with demolition, removing the old floors, shower and vanity to make way for the new. Delays in delivery of materials, or changing your mind and ordering different materials halfway into the project, will mean that construction has to pause until the new materials arrive. Each subcontractor is dependent on the next to do their work, and the general contractor should keep things moving along at the proper timeline, ensuring that the right materials are available and dealing promptly with any unexpected repairs, such as damage discovered behind the walls or under the floor. The general contractor will also coordinate inspections from the necessary officials if youve moved load-bearing walls or done electrical or plumbing work. After construction is complete, the final phase of bathroom remodeling is addressing your punch list. These are all the items that need to be corrected before final payment is handed over to the contractor.
