Electrodry is accused of posting fake reviews online.
Amazing job, fantastic result, these guys are the best cleaners! These are snippets of the online reviews the consumer watchdog has used to sue a carpet cleaning company in the Federal Court.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission launched legal action against A Whistle and Co, which trades as Electrodry Carpet Cleaning, for misleading and deceiving customers with fake reviews and testimonials online.

Electrodry, with more than 100 franchises around the country, is accused of inducing, or attempting to induce, franchisees to post fake reviews in breach of Australian Consumer Law, court documents show.
In early 2012, Electrodry acquired the services of a Hong Kong contractor in the Philippines to look after marketing and call centre duties. In March, it allegedly asked the contractor to post fake online reviews and distribute manuals to franchisees on how to take part.
Electrodryprovided sample reviews as templates to franchisees and specified they use Google, Yelp, Word of Mouth Online (Womo) and True Local. The franchisor urged them to post glowing reviews using their mobile phones so that it would be linked to different IP addresses, the ACCC claims.
To maximise participation among its 64 franchisees, Electrodry launched operator of the month and operator of the yearcompetitions with prize money, some worth more than $1000, to reward those who posted the highest number, court documents show.
Electrodry, which provides carpet, drapery, grout, upholstery and mattress cleaning services,said those who did not take part in the challenge were doing themselves a disservice.

Electrodry is accused of posting fake reviews online.
The consumer watchdog is taking legal action in the Federal Court against an Australian cleaning company it says was involved in posting fake testimonials about its business on the internet.
The company, Electrodry, has more than 100 franchises and provides carpet, drapery, grout, upholstery and mattress cleaning services, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said.
The ACCC alleges that a contractor for Electrodry, acting as its agent or at its direction, made false or misleading representations by posting the fake testimonials relating to Electrodry on the internet.
The ACCC also alleges that the company induced or attempted to induce its franchisees to make false or misleading representations by posting fake testimonials on the internet.
The fake testimonials allegedly appeared on a number of sites, including Google, True Local and Word of Mouth. It is alleged that the testimonials were written and posted by people associated with, or contracted to, Electrodry, and not by its genuine clients as the testimonials implied.
"While online testimonials can be a useful and genuine marketing tool, it is important that online businesses understand that making or inducing false or misleading representations about testimonials breaches the Australian Consumer Law,"ACCC deputy chair Michael Schaper said.
The ACCC is seeking declarations, penalties, injunctions and corrective notices from Electrodry.
Electrodry has been contacted for comment.
The ACCC promised it would target misleading reviews in 2012 and has been working on investigations with state and territory fair trading authorities across Australia.

A matted carpet is a common problem that many house owners have to contend with. Carpets which are kept in areas that have high movement such as the living room can get worn and old look quite fast. This matted appearance can also be seen in corners where furniture has been kept on the carpet for long periods of time. A recent survey by Kalia regarding Park City floors reveals that it takes regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure the best performance from a carpet.
Founder, Scott Heath, comments. "The term 'performance' with reference to carpets is a measure of how well a carpet maintains its original texture and appearance under normal traffic. Each carpet is different and has its own unique characteristics." He continues. "The characteristics of varying carpets is put to the test by the elements that are tracked in from footwear. This is magnified when it comes to Utah, particularly Park City floors, where you get sunshine one day, rain the next, and extreme snow during the winter."
These quality and characteristics of carpet depend on the raw materials used in construction and also on the design choices of the company. For example, natural fibers such as wool tend to wear gradually but this isn't the case with synthetic fibers. The study revealed the following as the primary causes of matted or premature wear on carpet.
Density of Carpet
The density references how close the strands of the carpet have been woven together. The denser a carpet is, the longer it will last. Density will also affect the appearance of a carpet and can even make a low quality product look grand. While it is best to keep away from carpets with a low face weight, high density can compensate for the lack of weight. For example, old nylon carpets last for years even after extensive use. This is because nylon is naturally a dense material. If the density of carpet were to be reduced, then it would need an increase in the amount of yarn and twist to maintain the same level of performance.
Tightness of Twist
This refers to how tightly the fibers have been wound around each other. Generally the more tight the twist is, the better will be the carpet's performance, though it will lead to a reduction in the total bulk. It can be thought of as analogous to a knot. If there are a number of twists and turns in the knot, then the chances of unravelling become much smaller. Similarly, a carpet with a high twist level will not get matted very fast. To judge the twist level of a carpet, carefully examine the cut ends of the individual yarns. If they are neat and clearly defined, then that means the carpet has a good tightness of twist.
Face Weight
This is the total weight of the fibers in the carpet measured in ounces per square yard. It provides a good idea of how much material is present in the carpet, and hence is an indicator of how quickly the carpet will wear out. Generally a carpet with a high face weight will not get matted fast as it tends to be more dense. But this might not always be the case. Sometimes when fibers of long length are used, the density of the carpet tends to be very less. It will lead to a good face weight but might not have the best quality.
