Decks have been cleared for merging some areas under the jurisdiction of the Madurai district police with the city police to make the city police limits co-terminus with expanded Madurai Corporation. .

The hiccups in transfer of police personnel along with whole or part of police stations have been resolved. We have already transferred police personnel in and out of those stations that are to be merged with the city police, an officer said.

The district police, in consultation with the city police, had planned to make the merger official on December 1, 2014 after having finalised the number of officers, policemen, vehicles, arms, buildings and communication equipment to be transferred.

However, the decision was postponed at the eleventh hour after a section of policemen raked up the transfer issue.

It was said that a section of the disgruntled police personnel was about to raise the issue through MLAs in the Assembly. Hence, the decision was deferred to avoid any embarrassment to the government in the Assembly, a police officer said.

The officials found that the transfer of policemen from the city Armed Reserve to the city taluk police, considered to be an elevation, had been done only till the 2003 batch. In the rural district, police personnel of even 2008 batch of the Armed Reserve had been transferred to the district police unit.

This meant that junior police personnel in the district police will have an advantage over their senior counterparts in the city with a gap of up to five years in seniority. This issue has now been sorted out, a police source said.

It is now only a matter of time for the merger to take place, the officer said.

IIHS in particular recognized the Prius V for its significantly improved performance all-around in the small overlap crash test naming it a Top Safety Pick+. The Toyota Sienna was also the only minivan awarded the 2015 Top Safety Pick + designation. IIHS also recognized four additional Toyota and Scion vehicles as 2015 Top Safety Picks.

Toyotas twelve awards overall were the most in the industry for 2015.

Decks have been cleared for amending the section 23(1) of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, to increase the number of seats in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council from 50 to 58 according to the provisions of the Constitution.

Though the expected amendment to the Act was not taken up in the just concluded session of the Parliament, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval for amending the section to rectify the anomaly in allocating the number of seats in the Legislative Council. The Centre may issue an ordinance to this effect.

According to the Constitution, the strength of Legislative Council can be one third of the strength of Legislative Assembly. Since the existing strength of Assembly is 175, its strength can be 58 MLCs -- 20 each under local authorities, MLAs quota, five each from graduates and teachers constituencies and eight under Governors nomination quota.

However the State Re-organisation Act distributed the 90 seats in the Council of combined State and allotted 50 seats to residuary A.P. and 40 to Telangana State under the above five categories.

Besides, the schedule 3 of the Act allotted 20 seats each under Local authorities and MLAs quota to successor A.P. State while the section 23 of the Act mentioned it as 17 each. This necessitated the amendment to section 23 for rectification of the anomaly.

The Election Commission noticed the above anomalies in the Act and had sent a proposal to the Union Government to carry out the correction months ago, sources said.

There will be no change in the strength of Telangana Council (40 members) as it is about one-third of its existing Assembly strength. However there is a need to increase the members from local authorities from 11 to 14 by delimitation of the constituencies to touch the 40 member mark, sources added. Its present strength is 37.

They battled for 60 minutes, then again for two overtimes and literally fought after the final play.

And for Memphis, the end result was a win 76 years in the making.

Paxton Lynch threw four touchdown passes and rushed for three more scores, Jake Elliott kicked a 54-yard field goal to end the first extra session and Memphis wasted a pair of double-digit leads before rallying to beat BYU 55-48 in the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl on Monday.

It wasnt always pretty, Memphis head coach Justin Fuente said.

No, but it was memorable largely for the right reasons, though also for a scene that got out of hand at the end.
