Stacking the deck for other kids: 11-year-old Chiefs trading card collector shares his prized possessions – KSN-TV - February 9, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) A young Chiefs fan has a passion for collecting trading cards, and now he is showing his hand to those in need.

11-year-old Parker Frederking started collecting trading cards two years ago.

He had surgery about two years ago for an emergency appendectomy and a bunch of people bought him a bunch of cards and that was when he really started to get into it, said father Garrett Frederking. He was like I want to collect more Chiefs and we started grabbing Chiefs cards.

Parker owns more than 2,000 trading cards, the biggest collection is that of the Kansas City Chiefs.

I have at least 200 Patrick Mahomes cards, and like 50 Harrison Butker, said Parker Frederking.

I would say Chiefs is probably over a good 500 cards or so, said Garrett Frederking.

Garrett said the cards go for a couple of bucks to thousands of dollars, but he said Parker is turning it into more than a financial investment.

He realizes there are some kids out there that just dont have a lot, so over the course of him donating cards shipping them out weve also set aside some and been like hey were gonna take this small box and were gonna go donate it, said Garrett.

Parker recently became a big brother through foster care and thats when he knew he could help stack the deck for other kids through his passion.

I know other people dont have very much, said Parker. It just makes me feel really happy and helpful and grateful for what people have done for me, from what Ive been doing for them.

Parker has been receiving donations from other card traders. In the last nine months, he has handed out 10,000 cards to kids.Garrett said he and other card traders have placed bets on games and donated in Parkers name to hospitals.

Parker said it gives kids a hobby, it is a way to give back, and it can also become something valuable for those who receive it.The big game is adding pressure as well. Parker hopes his and other kids personal collection go up in value.

My hope for the Super Bowl is Kansas City absolutely kicks Tampa Bays butt off, said Parker.

LA Rams deal their draft picks from the bottom of the deck – Ramblin’ Fan - February 9, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

The LA Rams have been shamed by some NFL sports analysts for trading away two more years worth of first-round picks. And to many traditional thinkers of NFL strategy, the allotment of each new seasons cache of draft picks are for that team and that team alone. They are tradeable, yes. But the thought of changing lanes with draft picks is a horrifying thought. Stay in your lanes, they urge.

And for teams that trade a package of draft picks to move up in the NFL Draft, the results are mixed. Sometimes the player chosen delivers, and sometimes not. And so, the very nature of the NFL Draft and the picks from the annual draft process are themselves infused with risks.

Successful NFL general managers learn tricks to mitigate those risks. They invest huge sums of money into data analytics to point their personnel department towards the most promising NFL prospects. They invest huge resources into hiring, developing, and promoting scout and analysts into executives. And they wager.

Yes, thats right. Each decision to draft, trade for a player, or trade for another draft pick is a gamble. Some like to play the draft. The LA Rams have found a trick of dealing picks for veteran players. That seems to upset some NFL analysts.

But its okay. Its a matter of minimizing the risks. The LA Rams simply have chosen another avenue of roster building that few other NFL teams are attempting. But is it a safer path?

To answer that, we need to examine a whiteboard that is used to encourage football players to achieve their full college education. Why? The odds of their making it is identical to the odds of NFL teams succeeding with their draft picks.

The warning to high school and college football students is clear. Only 6.5 percent of high school football players make it to NCAA football programs. Only 1.5 percent of that group make it to the NFL. Of the ones who make it, only half of those players actually play out their entire four-year rookie contract. That means that the odds of selecting a player in the NFL Draft who remains in the NFL for four years is just as unlikely. And the Rams are more than happy to transfer the chance of missing on a pick to their trading partner.

If Stafford works out, the Rams have gotten their starter for the foreseeable future. If Stafford does not work out, the Rams succeeded in trading for a quarterback that half of the NFL coveted to some degree. Yes, the LA Rams take chances. And thats what is so terrifying to many analysts. They are so terrified of falling off the edge, that they panic and urge everyone to stay at a safe distance from it.

But the life of a gambler embraces the losses that come along. It just means that they are one step closer to a big win.

Kicked-Off Below Deck Guest Delores Says She Was Planning to Leave Anyway – Vulture - January 20, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

The joy of watching Below Deck isnt about remembering the guests, but after her short-lived charter, it was clear Delores would go down in Below Deck infamy. The boat enthusiast became one of just a few guests to be kicked off their charter when she drunkenly jumped off the boat after dinner, which Captain Lee Rosbach called the ultimate fuck you to the captain. On January 18s Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen welcomed the woman to explain herself in a world exclusive interview. With a fitting video backdrop of a harbor, Delores told Cohen, You know, the water was just beautiful. I dont know what else to say. It was calling my name. As for the drinking, she added, Whos not drunk on vacation? Which, fair!

Looking back, Delores even saw a flaw in the whole situation. There was no man-overboard protocol thrown out there, she noted. (Remember, Delores lives on a boat.) No one threw me a life ring; no one threw me a vest; no one got in the dinghy to haul my ass back in. But that wasnt her big, exclusive bombshell. When I went back to my room, I had already started packing because I was going to call a water taxi to leave the next day anyway, she told Cohen of her reaction to being kicked off. I think we were all on the same page there. Sure until she jumped off the tender boat on her way back to shore. The water was just stunning and beautiful, and I was on vacation and wanted to be in the water! Delores conceded. Well, were glad it was worth it.

All hands on deck on vaccine rollout in Stamford – The Advocate - January 20, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

STAMFORD Like every Tuesday, Mayor David Martin grasped at a way to describe the magnitude of the pandemics impact on American life. This Tuesday, he likened the loss of life across the country to something deeply familiar to any Stamford resident: traffic.

Before the pandemic, the number of cars traversing the George Washington Bridge plus all the calls in the Lincoln Tunnel going both days was about 400,000 a day, Martin said during his weekly COVID-19 update for the city. Imagine if every single car that got under the George Washington Bridge or went into the Lincoln Tunnel never came out the other side.

With that grim milestone in mind, Martin emphasized that hope is on the way for Stamford residents as the city continues to expand its vaccination program through a partnership with Stamford Health, a collaborative effort announced by the healthcare system last Friday.

Stamford shuttered its own vaccine clinic in order to pool resources with the hospital, which is inoculating healthcare personnel, first responders, and people 75 and older at the Bennet Medical Center.

Its all hands on deck to ensure that we have one of the best vaccination programs out there, said Stamford Director of Public Safety Ted Jankowski.

Stamford Health CEO Kathleen Silard said the hospital has vaccinated approximately 600 people a day since Monday. She projected the figure will grow to 1,000 people a day by the end of the week.

When I went up to the site yesterday it really did my heart good to see our employees and the city employees working collaboratively together to be able to execute on this plan, Silard said Tuesday.

But for Martin, 1,000 people a day is only the beginning.

We are working on a second site that we hope to open in another week or two that would add another at least 1,000 a day, Martin said. On top of that, he put his weight behind opening a third vaccine site in Stamford that would allow the city to inoculate 20,000 people a week.

The city has yet to formally secure a location for its second mass testing site, according to a spokesperson for the mayor.

Both Silard and city officials emphasized that only people over the age of 75 and those eligible under Phase 1a can register for the vaccine, a rule Silard said she is determined to enforce.

Gov. Ned Lamont announced on Tuesday that Connecticut would take a tiered approach to Phase 1b to ensure that those with the highest risk receive the vaccine first. While adults between 65 and 74 and essential workers are also part of 1b, they likely will not receive the vaccine until February or March.

Silard reported that 90 percent of the doses delivered to Stamford Hospital by the federal government are administered to the public.

So far, Silard said that Stamford Health has administered 6,900 unique doses of the vaccine.

Stamford seven-day average for COVID-19 cases sits at 85 new cases per day. Four Stamford residents died with coronavirus in the last week.

The Below Deck Yachties React to Having Multiple Crew Members Sick at the Same Time – Bravo - January 20, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Just when the Below Deck crew seemed to be hitting its stride in Season 8 with several successful charters under itsbelt, the yachties were thrown another major curveball in the January 18 episode of the show when several of the crew members became under the weather.

After Izzy Wouters was out of commission for parts of the last charter due to an illness, Rachel Hargrove, Ashling Lorger, and Elizabeth Frankini all started to not feel well as they welcomed the next group of guests on board. "I was like, we are so low on people right now," chief stew Francesca Rubi recalled feeling about the situation in the above clip from the Below Deck After Show exclusive to Bravo Insider.

Rachel, Izzy, and Ashling all detailed what it was like to work while feeling sick during the charter season in the Below Deck After Show, above, where Ashling also revealed why she "felt like I couldn't admit why I was sick."

Press play on the above video to also learn what it was like for Francesca, Eddie Lucas, and Captain Lee Rosbach to manage a crew that wasn't feeling100 percent and if any of the My Seanna yachties were worried that the coronavirus (COVID-19) could be responsible for the illnesses on board.

‘Below Deck’: James Hough and Elizabeth Frankini’s Relationship Bites the Dust Has Any Boatmance Survived the Show? – Showbiz Cheat Sheet - January 20, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Elizabeth Frankini from Below Deck all but confirmed that she and James Hough are no longer dating.

In addition to their fallout on the latest episode, Frankini dropped hints during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen that indicated she and Hough definitely wont be headed to the altar any time soon. Frankini played Do You Regret It? on WWHL and her answers were very telling.

She instantly regretted getting romantically involved with Hough. Frankini also insisted she stuck up for Hough when chef Rachel Hargrove was hammering away at his character during dinner.

She also laughed and said she regretted drunkenly telling Hough to propose to her and then telling the crew they were getting married. Yes! she laughed. If you guys knew the context. He couldnt come to the U.S.! So I was saying it as a joke. Frankini later clarified what happened on Twitter. Some legal issue unexplained on the show! But yeah he literally cant [come to the U.S.].

Unlike the last Below Deck boatmance, Frankini and Houghs relationship seemed to have possibly fizzled out. Jessica More and Rob Westergaard from Below Deck Mediterranean had a super passionate affair that ended as explosively as it began.

And while the two shaded each other during the episode, Frankini and Hough still follow each on Instagram. Neither has started battling each other on social media yet. But Frankini seemed to regret several encounters with Hough.

RELATED: Below Deck: Amy Johnson Admits the Crew Were Shocked To Learn Rocky Dakota Told the Truth About Her Affair With Eddie Lucas

She addressed a viewer question on the WWHL After Show about if she should have bunked with Hough. I had that thought but it would have been a bad idea, she replied. So, Im glad it didnt happen. More and Westergaard bunked together, which ended up causing problems when they started fighting.

While romance makes for great reality television, reality television doesnt make for a great romance. Thus far no Below Deck boatmances have made it on land. In fact, the show may have helped to drive a wedge in between Malia White and chef Tom Checketts previously established relationship too.

White and Checketts appeared on Below Deck Med together. They had been dating for close to a year and seemed to be very happy and in love. But social media drama took over when White turned in chief stew Hannah Ferrier for having an unregistered vape pen and valium. White and Checketts were inundated with hateful remarks and anger. Only a few months later, the couple broke up. White said Checketts cheated on her.

RELATED: Below Deck Sailing Yacht: Jenna MacGillivray Says She and Adam Glick Are No Longer Speaking

Other boatmances experienced a similar fate. Chief stew Jenna MacGillivray and chef Adam Glick from Below Deck Sailing Yacht tried to maintain a casual romance on land. But MacGillivray broke off contact with Glick. I will say this, she said on Another Below Deckpodcast. Adam and I were on very friendly terms up until last week. Something happened and we are no longer friends.

Thus far, the only romance still going strong from the series is Paget Berry and Ciara Duggan from Below Deck Sailing Yacht. The couple appeared on the show but had been dating for several years. Since season 1 ended, Berry proposed to Duggan.

‘All Hands On Deck’: National Mall Is Closed As Agencies Fortify D.C. – NPR - January 20, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

U.S. park rangers look at the spot where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Friday. U.S. park rangers look at the spot where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Friday. Security threats have prompted officials to shut down the National Mall and much of downtown Washington, D.C.

    Updated at 5:12 p.m. ET

The National Mall, where millions of people have gathered to mark historic events in Washington, D.C., was closed to the public late Friday morning, as officials announced a string of security measures meant to foil any attempts to derail next week's inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

The National Park Service began a "temporary public closure" of the National Mall late Friday morning, citing a request from the U.S. Secret Service. The agencies say they're worried that pro-Trump extremists are planning new violence, building on last week's insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

"The unprecedented nature of the recent civil unrest at the U.S. Capitol coupled with the real and substantial threat of violence and unlawful behavior poses an unprecedented public safety and security challenge," the National Park Service said on Friday.

With the National Mall closure, the public will be barred from entering an area some 2 miles in length from the Capitol complex to the Potomac River; officials say the Mall will be off-limits through "at least" Thursday the day after Biden is inaugurated.

Another attempt to block gatherings in the area comes from Facebook, which says it will stop users from creating new events close to the Capitol, White House or state capitols, and will remove existing ones that violate Facebook policies.

Many streets are also being closed off, including the Memorial Bridge that runs from the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. across the Potomac River to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Other bridges entering the city could also be closed, though the timing and details are not yet certain, officials said.

Two areas along Pennsylvania Avenue will remain accessible to a limited number of demonstrators, with up to 100 people allowed to gather in each zone.

"They will be met by U.S. Park Police, escorted through magnetometers and then taken to these areas so that they can exercise their First Amendment rights," said Jeff Reinbold, the NPS superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks.

Federal officials, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser and others gave new details about their security plans at a briefing Friday. They urged people to enjoy the inauguration from home and to follow it online rather than in person.

Once a security perimeter is fully in place, any vehicle that enters will have to do so through a checkpoint, where it will be "searched for explosives, weapons and other prohibited items," said Matt Miller, head of the Secret Service's Washington field office.

Discussing needs to secure the rest of Washington and other areas that could be targeted, Miller said, "we can't create a fortress and allow the rest of the city to suffer in services" from fire, emergency and police agencies.

"It's all hands on deck for our entire agency," said the Metropolitan Police Department's acting chief, Robert Contee. "Because our entire agency has responsibility for the entire city."

Bowser acknowledged that while she agrees that the security measures, including a new fence around the Capitol complex, are necessary and prudent, she isn't happy that large chunks of her city now look like militarized zones.

"I'm sad about it, I have to tell you, that it looks that way," she said. "I'm committed to making sure that we get our city back."

But there is a special responsibility, the mayor said, to ensure "a peaceful transition of power in our country."

The National Guard did not have a representative at the briefing. When asked what Guard members' rules of engagement will be, Miller of the Secret Service said the National Guard is "printing rules of engagement cards for each of its soldiers deployed on this exercise."

Miller added that he believes that Guard members will be following the same guidelines as the agencies they're working alongside, such as the U.S. Capitol Police.

All hands on deck at AdventHealth as beds hit 100-percent capacity – Calhoun Times - January 20, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

AdventHealth Gordon has finally reached 100 percent bed-use capacity as Georgia continues to cope with a surge in coronavirus cases, according to Director of Marketing and Communications Garrett Nudd.

The news comes as cases of the virus continue to rise state-wide and locally. In Gordon County, the weekend saw an increase of 68 confirmed positive cases and two deaths numbers that have only continued to rise as the week goes on. Statewide, cases increased by 12,310 over the weekend, with 154 new deaths reported as of Monday afternoon.

Nudd said the hospital has been at or near 100 percent capacity for some time now but emphasized that despite the challenges of caring for so many patients at once, patient care is being taken as seriously as ever. Staff members are being treated with equal care, given the increased work load.

Our staff is very taxed and tired but they have great morale. We are all pitching in and helping them where and when we can, Nudd said. Our staff and hospital leadership come in to help in the evenings with answering phones or doing temperature checks in the lobby. We cant provide clinical care, but we do things like that to help lessen their burden.

Nudd himself has volunteered to answer phones. During one volunteer shift, he said a nurse pointed out two different hospital rooms with patients inside that they suspected wouldnt make it through the night and asked if he would pray for them. He did.

I dont want to push spiritual beliefs on people, but if people feel moved to pray for our frontline caregivers we encourage that. When our nurses see that and hear about people praying for them, I cant tell you what it means, he said. They see a lot of people who have COVID and end up being fine, but they see a lot who dont make it 24 hours. Its hard, and that prayer really makes a difference.

Asked what other ways members of the community could pitch in to help lessen the burden on staff, Nudd emphasized the importance of continuing to follow CDC guidelines for handwashing, properly wearing face masks and socially distancing whenever possible. He also said that though he knew some were hesitant to do so, getting the COVID-19 vaccine could save lives.

I know some people are nervous about it, but theres never been a vaccine with more testing than this. Granted it was expedited and put together quickly, but the greatest medical minds in the country came together to do that work. The risk of not taking it far outweighs the risk of taking it, he said. If we ever want to return to a time when we can gather with our families and friends without worrying, we have to get people vaccinated.

The Georgia Department of Public Health is currently only administering the vaccine to healthcare workers (physicians, nurses, laboratory technicians, EMS personnel, environmental services, etc.), residents and staff of long-term care facilities, adults aged 65 and older, law enforcement, firefighters and other first responders.

The exact date for when it will be available to the general public at large is not yet known, though plans for rolling out the vaccine to additional groups have been released by the DPH. Next up on the list of those eligible to receive the vaccine are essential workers outside of the healthcare industry who perform job tasks across critical infrastructure sectors. Following those workers, persons aged 16-64 with medical conditions that increase the risk for severe COVID-19 will be eligible.

At this time and for the foreseeable future, no vaccines will be administered without a prior appointment.

Kelcey Walker is a reporter for the Calhoun Times in Calhoun, Ga.
