All lanes on the Kennedy Expressway re-opened as of 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

The bridge demolition work that forced closures on the Kennedy Expressway the last two weekends has come to an end early, officials said Sunday morning, and the roadway is reopening.

Outbound lanes on the Kennedy Expressway were opened to traffic as of about 7:30 a.m. Sunday, according to an e-mail release from Illinois Department of Transportation spokeswoman Jae Miller, and the agency is in the process of opening the full roadway.

Miller said that removal of the last portion of the Ontario Street Bridge was finished overnight, which let crews reopen the expressway sooner than expected for the second straight weekend. All lanes and ramps will be open later in the day Sunday, with cleanup continuing throughout the day.

The agency also warned motorists that they should still expect some delays traveling through the area and that motorists should be aware of flaggers and other construction workers and equipment still in the area.

Warnings of traffic nightmares caused by the construction proved overstated both this weekend and last weekend. On Saturday, there was inconvenience and driver frustration, with many city streets approaching downtown on Saturday, including Grand Avenue, Ontario Street and Halsted Street, fouled up due to expressway closures. But for a large part of the day, westbound traffic that was diverted to two lanes on the Ohio Street feeder ramp for the detour moved as quickly as could be expected.

Some drivers who braced themselves for Kennedy gridlock Saturday found that city traffic was less tolerable than the expressway.

Nicole Calcagno said she got on the Kennedy at Rosemont to go to Pridefest in Lakeview around 1:30 p.m. and it "wasnt bad at all."

"I think everyone else avoided it," Calcagno said in an email.

Traffic control aides helped guide traffic through especially congested intersections downtown on Saturday, like the six-corner junction at Milwaukee Avenue, Halsted Street and Grand Avenue.

Bridge demolition finishes early, Kennedy reopens

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The commission that oversees Little Rocks airport is to vote Tuesday whether to approve the demolition of the Aerospace Education Center, which has been closed since the start of 2011.

The Arkansas Aviation Historical Society opened the center in 1995, having raised private funds. The center was a popular attraction with an IMAX theater - the only one in the state at the time - showing science and nature films, and an aviation museum. A planetarium was added later.

But its popularity waned and the society didnt have the revenues to keep the center open. The facility was ceded to the airport, which had given the group a 99-year lease on the land, free of charge.

Since taking over the closed center, the commission has spent $180,000 per year on maintenance and utilities.

The only use the airport has been getting from the site is its use as a cellphone parking lot, where people can wait until their partys flight has landed and then drive onto the grounds and pick them up.

That use will continue, officials said.

Shane Carter, spokesman for the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport, said Friday the IMAX and planetarium gear would be removed in hope of finding a new home for them, perhaps at the Museum of Discovery in downtown Little Rock.

Weve already paid approximately $560,000 since the building reverted to us in 2001, Carter said.

The commission has shown the building, with its theater, museum and planetarium to a number of interested groups, but no one came away with a plan to reopen the facility.

Those are very specialized uses, Carter said.

Demolition looms for Aerospace Education Center

The demolition of illegal flats in Campa Cola compound beginning June 20 will be filmed and used as proof against the residents if they offer resistance, the city's municipal body said today.

"We will be video-recording the entire demolition process, which we will carry out from June 20, so that it can be used as proof against residents in the Supreme Court if they stop us from performing our duties," Mohan Adtani, additional municipal commissioner, told PTI.

At the first stage of eviction, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) will cut off electricity, water and gas supplies to the illegally built flats. Internal walls of the flats would be pulled down in the second phase before finally demolishing the balconies.

Adtani said the demolition process was slated to start today but was defererred on humanitarian grounds following the death of two residents.

"We had planned to start the demolition drive from June 17, but we have now given the residents 3 more days to vacate the flats after the death of two residents. We will now start the demolition from June 20," he said.

The families of the deceased residents would be given extra time so that they can complete the last rituals, he said.

Campa Cola's first resident, Vinod Kothari (82), died on June 15 after a heart attack while 83-year old Chakravarti Chawla, a refugee from Pakistan, who had been hospitalised after suffering from kidney failure, expired on June 8.

Meanwhile, residents of Campa Cola said MCGM should extend their 'humanitarian gesture' to other residents as well.

"It is heartening to know that the MCGM has some humanity left in them. We sincerely hope that this humanitarian gesture gets extended to other residents as well. We, as citizens, expect the MCGM to take a humane approach to this issue," Ankit Garg, a resident said.

Seven buildings of Campa Cola Housing Society in south Mumbai were constructed between 1981 and 1989. The builders had permission for only six floors, but one of the buildings 'Midtown', has 20 floors and another 'Orchid' 17.

MANILA, PhilippinesOnly 743 days are remaining for the Aquino administration and it will not waste its time on demolition jobs against the opposition, according to Malacaang.

For the most important number is 743 because there are 743 days remaining to fulfill [the administrations] promise to Juan and Juana de la Cruz, to fulfill what we have envisioned [under] the social contract entered into by President Aquino with the people. This is what we are giving attention to, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a press conference last week.

It is such a waste of time if we would still engage in [a] demolition [job] while it is very clear that [the administrations] current priorities are construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation, he added.

Coloma was responding to allegations that Malacaang was behind a demolition job against opposition stalwarts, including Vice President Jejomar Binay, who is expected to challenge the ruling partys anointed one in the 2016 presidential elections.

Binay and opposition Sen. Ramon Revilla, Jr. have already declared their intention to seek the presidency.

Revilla and Binays daughter, Makati Rep. Abigail Binay, had claimed that Malacaang was behind allegations that they had misused their Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF). A white paper claiming Representative Binays involvement circulated two weeks ago.

Revilla, along with Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Jinggoy Estrada, has been charged with plunder and graft stemming from the supposed misuse of the PDAF, also known as pork barrel.
