Demolition day looms for Croydon Council's old headquarters Taberner House

Demolition of Croydon Councils former headquarters will start next month after councillors gave it the go ahead.
The 19-storey building Taberner House will be taken down one level at a time, until the demolition is completed at the start of next year.
As the 1960s office block is in the town centre, no explosives will be used.
Instead the building will first be cleared internally before demolition excavators are brought in.
They will break away all the way down to the ground floor until the demolition is complete.
Working hours will be 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm Saturday.
There will be no Saturday afternoon, Sunday or Bank Holiday working unless otherwise agreed with council officers prior to the works.

Demolition day is nearing for the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Airport hotel.
The 388-room property at 1870 Griffin Road near Interstate 95 is expected to close permanently March 31 and later razed to make way for the completion of the new south runway at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
As of Tuesday, reservations were still being accepted for that final night according to a front desk agent who said it was the hotel's last day for accepting guests.
Tourism officials say the Hilton's loss is a blow to room inventory in Broward County, which hasn't grown dramatically in recent years. The county had 33,294 available hotel and motel units in 2012, versus 34,976 in 2011, data from the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) show.
"This will absolutely have an impact on our available group inventory and makes the need for a Convention Center hotel even more critical," CVB President Nicki Grossman said. "Fortunately there are some proposed properties scheduled for development over the next two years which will make new inventory available, but we will certainly feel the pinch now."
The hotel's loss is also likely to put on dent in tourist tax collection with fewer hotel beds available to accommodate overnight visitors.
In 2012, Dania Beach was the third-largest municipality behind Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood for tourism tax collection, according to the latest CVB data. It generated $3.4 million (or 7.8 percent0 of the $43.8 million in tourism taxes collected that year, which is derived from the 5 percent 'bed tax' levied on overnight hotel visitors.
In January the Hilton's operator informed state officials that its 63 full-time and part-time employees would be laid off effective April 1 due to its permanent closure. The affected jobs ranged from general manager to restaurant food servers and room attendants, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice filed.
Last year, Broward County bought the Dania Hilton for $62 million after filing a condemnation lawsuit to take possession under eminent domain. It then hired The BG Group of Boca Raton to tear it down to clear the path for the new runway that's expected to open in September.
The aviation department will assume possession April 7 and BG Group will take about 6-to-8 weeks to assess and prepare the site for demolition, airport spokesman Greg Meyer said Wednesday. The entire structure should be demolished by early June, then filled in and sodded by August, authorities have said.

Demolition of the former Deseret Chemical Depot is progressing and may even be slightly ahead of schedule, according to an update provided Thursday.
Demolition crews recently tore down a 90-foot tall, 200-foot wide structure used to cool and clean exhaust gases from the furnaces that helped destroy such weapons as mustard gas and nerve agents including sarin, Tabun and VX, according to the written update the projects contractor provided.
The update said the demolition is expected to be completed by the end of August. When work began to destroy buildings in January, it was predicted demolition would take nine months.
The depot once stored the chemical weapons, but the U.S. Army began destroying them in 1996 to comply with the Chemical Weapons Convention. The last mustard gas-filled munition was destroyed at the depot in 2010 and the last bulk mustard gas was destroyed a year later.
The property last year was transferred to the control of the nearby Tooele Army Depot and given the new designation as that depots South Area.

DENVER Demolition work that has caused overnight closures at I-25 and Sixth Avenue this week will be extended until at least Tuesday.
There will be no demolition or closures this weekend, but the work and closure will be implemented Sunday through Tuesday. Its possible there will be work and closures Wednesday as well.
Workers are taking down the east portion of the Sixth Avenue bridge deck that crosses I-25.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on the nights affected, there will be double lane closures on both directions of I-25. Beginning at 10 p.m., southbound I-25 traffic will be detoured off the highway at Sixth Avenue, west to Federal Boulevard, south to Fifth Avenue, then east on Sixth and back to I-25. Northbound traffic will move into the southbound lanes.
To keep Federal Boulevard traffic moving, the eastbound Sixth Avenue off-ramp to Federal will be closed.
Motorists should expect heavy traffic and delays during the closures and detours.
