For seven months, as Fulton Bank razed an East King Street building to make way for an addition, trucks have hauled debris out.
Soon, though, trucks will be hauling clean fill and grass seed in.
Fulton Bank is postponing the start of construction of the addition by 10 to 12 months so it can reassess its need for more space.
That means construction now is expected to start in summer or fall of 2014.
In the meantime, the Lancaster-based bank will take an unusual step.
After the demolition is finished in mid September, Fulton will put clean fill temporarily in the immense hole left behind.
The bank will plant grass seed on the fill and remove the fence around the site, Fulton spokeswoman Laura Wakeley said Friday.
"We didn't feel that leaving a hole of that size would be an attractive thing or a safe thing for the community," said Wakeley.
Fulton also will reopen North Christian Street past the site and both lanes of East Grant Street.
It will pour new sidewalks on the portions of North Christian and East King streets that go past the site, too.
