    Mesterfjellet 1-10 Skole - Demolition
Demolition of the old Thor Heyerdal School in Larvik, Norway to make way for new Mesterfjellet 1-10 School. Spring 2012. Unfortunately, the demolition contractor began on the opposite side of the building, so there is a lot of activity you can #39;t see.

Demolition at St. Edward's: Parishioners say goodbye to beloved building - February 7, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Virginia Easterling salvaged a brick from the wreckage. She said she wanted a memoir of her old school where she attended kindergarten to fourth grade.

The demolition crew from Creed Inc. arrived shortly before 9 a.m., and the first blow to the building happened half an hour later. "We were all bawling," said parish secretary Julie Lopez.

Parishioners had known that the building was in need of repairs and updates for a few years, but when a plumber declared it unsafe last fall due to toxic gas in the pipes and asbestos was discovered on the floor shortly after, the church was left with no other option than to tear the building down and build a new one in its place.

"This building has served us well, but we didn't realize what condition it was in," said the Rev. Father Cyprian Uline, who has been at St. Edward since 2005. "When we found out about the plumbing and gas and that it was actually unsafe, I got together with the building committee and we decided to close it. It had more problems than we knew about."

According to Uline, the building was built in 1949 and served as a Catholic grade school until 1988, when all grades moved to the current St. Edward Catholic School building on Walter Street.

Since then, the building had served as a Sunday school area, Jonah's House Food Pantry and social hall and meant a lot to many people. Its frequent use, Uline said,

"It is a sad day," said Uline. "The building itself is not historical. It was traditionally built in 1945-style, and many of the schools in Carlsbad were built around that time. But it has meaning to the people. Many people went to school here. They were baptized in our church, married in our church, and buried their grandparents in our church. For them it's really hard to see it go."

Demolition work begins on historic Carlisle pub - February 7, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Demolition experts have moved in to dismantle a former historic Carlisle pub.

Demolition begins on the Rose & Crown

The Rose & Crown pub on Upperby Road is being flattened to make way for housing.

Developers Cumbrian Properties had insisted that everything possible was done to save the rundown eyesore and that demolition was the best and safest option.

The Rose & Crown, which used to have its own bowling green, was one of several pubs built and designed by Harry Redfern in the late 1920s and early 1930s as part of the famous Carlisle and District State Management Scheme.

Squatters had moved into the building in recent times, the central heating system had been ripped out, and lead had been taken off the roof.

Last month, former city MP Eric Martlew branded plans to demolish the pub as an act of vandalism. Mr Martlew made the comments after learning that Cumbrian Properties wanted to knock down the pub to replace it with semi-detached houses.

Adrian Hogarth, of Cumbrian Properties, said: Its an eyesore and the longer it is left the more of an eyesore it will become.

Viroqua's demolition ordinance missing - February 7, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

When the city of Viroqua received requests for demolition permits for two properties on Railroad Avenue recently, it was discovered that no demolition ordinance was on the books.

City administrator John Severson said the demolition ordinance was passed by the city in November of 2005, but got overlooked in the citys code book.

When the council went through and changed almost all of Chapter 15[.04], the building code, the electrical code, the plumbing code, this was a part of it, and it was like we forgot we had it, city attorney David Jenkins said. The building inspector and the city clerk continued to use the permit, in this actually called ordinance, and I think, inadvertently was repealed when Chapter 15[.04] was largely redone.

The revision to the code book was done in April 2008.

Jenkins said it was a procedure and an ordinance that had been in effect, but technically was not anymore, due most likely to error.

So, even though this wasnt in the code, we were following this code anyway? alderman Terry Noble asked.

As far as the building inspector and the application of the time, Severson said.

Viroqua City Clerk Lori Polhamus discovered the oversight.

When these come in, I was sending them right out when I realized it wasnt even on the code, this is where this all came about, Polhamus said.

Since the ordinance was not technically in effect for the two demolition permits at Railroad Avenue, the council passed that earlier in the meeting by a resolution.

SA Nitro Bridge Demolition – Video - February 6, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

    SA Nitro Bridge Demolition
This is the first piece of the superstructure to be removed. Yes, we were hoping for explosives but alas, the price of steel is too high and the river is too important to barge traffic to leave a twisted mass of metal in it. This sequence lasted for about 45 minutes so I sped it up 64 times.
