Multiple businesses in Rock Hill report break-ins, robberies - March 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    ROCK HILL, S.C.

A bulletin board at Comfort Systems is covered with thank-you letters from customers, and local charities the business has supported during its 50-year history. All that was overshadowed Thursday by a damaged fence and a major theft. "Well, it shut us down for about half a day this morning, said Matthew Sy. Sy runs the company and said his workers couldn't do their jobs, because everything was gone. "We've been hit numerous times in the past where they've just taken copper, compressors, things like that, but last night they hit our employees tools, he said. So, for much of the day technicians couldn't install HVAC systems. Kim Henson runs a drywall shop across the street. She saw police here earlier this week, after a copper theft. She said things have gotten worse since a break-in last year. "Weve been robbed. Most of the businesses down White Street have been broken into, she said. Channel 9 checked the police department's crime mapping website, and zeroed in on a section of town along East White Street. It shows 43 crimes reported since the beginning of the year. Most of them are break-ins and theft from businesses. For Sy, a comment from his office manager Thursday morning made it worse. "Shes usually the first to get here, and she told me today she's going to start coming in later, because she doesn't feel safe here anymore, he said. The owner had to go to a hardware store and buy tools so his installation crews could work. Police are not talking about possible suspects.

Family rallies around Lexington High School students brain cancer battle - March 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

LEXINGTON, Neb. In 2002 a work visa allowed Osvaldo Vallejo passage into the United States, he settled in Elkton, Md., where he took up construction work doing drywall installation.

Vallejos family consists of with wife Rosa Corona, 14-year-old daughter Veronica Vallejo-Corona and 15-year old son Bryan and younger daughter Ariana, were forced to move in search of better job prospects after the economic crash in 2008 left Osvaldo without work.

After five years living in Lexington, the family has settled into life in Nebraska. They attend St. Anns Catholic Church and Osvaldo works at the meat processing plant in Gibbon.

We like it here, at first it was difficult. Both of us are starting to prosper, Osvaldo works the most, I got a part-time job, Rosa said in Spanish.

Then last summer, Veronica, currently a 14-year old freshman at Lexington High School, began to have convulsions, Rosa said.

They did tests, they found out it was a tumor, they operated in July. It was cancer, Rosa said. The health hardships often leaves Veronica tired when she returns to Lexington from her chemotherapy treatments in Omaha she goes to school when she feels well.

Every two weeks Veronica undergoes chemotherapy treatments in Omaha, a necessity that has forced Rosa to stay at home more and work less.

They are very difficult and heavy days, when Veronica undergoes chemotherapy, Rosa said pointing out that her daughter undergoes two different types of chemotherapy treatments.

Veronicas strength and bright attitude is something that amazes and gives the family strength, Rosa said.

She is very strong, is very positive. It is something that gives us strength. Only people going through that can understand this, Rosa said.

Subaru Dealership In Kansas One-Ups Union Protestors - March 19, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

As Ferris Bueller once said, life moves pretty fast. Nowhere is that more evident than in the world of marketing, where today's advertisers use social media to respond to all kinds of things -- from customer complaints to world events -- on the fly.

According to The Wichita Eagle, a Subaru dealership in Kansas is doing the same thing, but instead of using gifs and jpegs to get its message across, it's taken a decidedly old-school approach.

Subaru of Wichita recently launched a $1.5 million renovation of a former Suzuki outlet, converting it to a Subaru showroom. Subaru of Wichitahired a range of local contractors for the upgrade, including a firm called Hi-Tech Interiors, which carried out some drywall installation.

ALSO SEE: 2014 Subaru Forester: Six Reasons It's Among The Safest Crossovers

The problem is, Hi-Tech Interiors is a non-union shop, a fact that didn't sit well with theUnited Brotherhood Of Carpenters And Joiners Of America Local 201. And so, the union took to the streets -- or, more precisely, the right of way directly in front of the dealership. Members unfurled a large banner that reads, in big, red letters, "Shame on Subaru of Wichita".

In return, the dealership's director of marketing, Aaron Wirtz, did what any bright, grammatically oriented person would do in that situation: he finished the sentence with a sign that reads, "for having unbeatable prices".

Apart from the words "labor dispute" written in the corner of the union signand fact that the fonts don't quite match, the two banners are nearly identical. Read as one, they are also hilarious -- to anyone who has a beef with unions, that is: "Shame on Subaru of Wichita for having unbeatable prices".

The union hasn't commented on the dealership's "reply" banner, but the public clearly has: as of this morning, a photo of the two signs has nearly 1,000 likes on Facebook and over 500 shares. Wirtz says that the dealership has fed the union reps and invited them inside. He adds that the people manning the union banner don't look as if they want to be there and has a hunch that they're not even union members, just folks hired to stand by the side of the road.

Our take? No matterwhich side of the union debate you fall on, there's no denying that this is a clever move by Subaru of Wichita-- on par with Oreo's now-famous "You can still dunk in the dark" post during the Super Bowl 2013 blackout. Let's hope the dealership's sense of humor helps diffuse tensions so that an amicable resolution can be reached.

Solid Apollo LED Lighting Introduces a New Range of Aluminum LED Lighting Profiles for Professional Installations of … - March 12, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Seattle, Washington (PRWEB) March 11, 2014

Solid Apollo LED Lighting has just released a new line of 11 unique aluminum LED lighting profiles. With a large variety of profiles to suit almost every LED project. Do-it-yourselfers, architects, lighting designers, and contractors now have even more options in creating the perfect LED Lighting installation.

This is the second generation of LED aluminum channels created by Solid Apollo and their experience and knowledge from the first generation has gone into making this new generation the best yet.

One of the largest issues lighting designers, contractors and architects face when developing linear lighting solutions, is to create clean, bright and functional systems. This requires the light to appear smooth and continuous.

Previously, there were only three basic solutions to create this effect: LED Light Strips, Neon lights and LED linear fixtures. These solutions unfortunately were difficult for creating a continuous path of light, as shadows and light gaps were easily created. These solutions also involved clumsy and bulky installations due to the amount of cabling required.

Another issue with linear LED lighting has been the difficulty to position the lights precisely to avoid glare and discomfort from improper installation.

According to Manuel Barquin, CEO of SolidApollo, The idea is very simple, we have created high grade linear aluminum profiles in numerous shapes to meet the demands of almost every installation. Each profile is easy to use, simply place the LED strip in the profile, and use the optional diffusers to create a continuous linear path of light. There are really no limitations to the length or levels of brightness desired.

There are several competitive advantages by using Solid Apollos LED lighting profiles. Depending on the profile chosen, LED strips from 12mm to 30mm wide can be used to achieve the exact color and brightness required. The profiles can also be customized to fit almost any length.

There are several exciting new designs now available. The first is the large variety of recessed profile options, such as the T12 Recessed, T20 Recessed, and the Floor profile. Not only can all of these profiles be installed in wood floors, walls, ceilings, drywall and cabinets, but the new floor model can also take the weight of people and vehicles on it. This is possible by the high grade PVC diffuser designed by Solid Apollo.

Another new and improved design is the Corner profile, which has been constructed to easily fit in any 90 degree corner. The low profile and professional finish is perfect for installations requiring a discrete light source, such as display cases for jewelry or retail applications.
