AUSTRALIA Day 2015 in Tamworth, as across the nation on our national day, has the cheek to be irreverent, larrikin and laidback.

AUSTRALIA Day 2015 in Tamworth, as across the nation on our national day, has the cheek to be irreverent, larrikin and laidback.

As well there was a fair bit of music overhang, as Tamworth showed it still had an overflow of great energy to celebrate Australia Day yesterday,bookending the 10-day Tamworth Country Music Festival and rounding it off in style.

People were out and about at pools, parks and dams, playing cricket,eating off Australia Day plates and drinking out of Australia Day cups.

Some, like Darren Wilcox and all his bachelor and spinster mates who had attended theTamworth Ute Show the day prior at Tamworth Showground, decided to go all out in Mr Wilcoxs paddock.

They strapped three gazebos together, marked out a cricket pitch, set up two splash pools for their children and barbecued up a storm from 6am, starting with lashings of bacon and eggs.

Mr Wilcox said the15 utes and 20-strong gathering had attracted a fair bit of attention from passers-by, as people had been stopping to take photos of them.

Its probably the best one weve done for a while, Mr Wilcox said.

Urbana park to receive $20K in improvements - January 24, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

The city of Urbana will receive more than $20,000 in state funding to make upgrades to Melvin Miller Park.

The grant is part of $2.8 million in NatureWorks grants approved by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to assist communities across Ohio develop and improve public access to outdoor recreation facilities.

Urbana officials will receive about $20,400 to replace fences around adult softball fields No. 1 and No. 2 at Melvin Miller Park, which were opened in the 1960s and early 1970s, said Parks and Recreation Superintendent Chris Stokes.

Theres holes in them, the poles are leaning and everything is curled up on the bottom. Theyre in bad shape, Stokes said.

NatureWorks will provide 75 percent of the money for the project. Urbana will pay the remaining 25 percent, or nearly $7,000, which will come out of the Capital Improvement Fund, Stokes said.

These grants will allow communities to increase green space, update playground equipment and picnic areas and spend time with their families, which helps improve the quality of life for everyone that calls our great state home, said ODNR Director James Zehringer in a press release.

Urbanas Melvin Miller Park is one of 80 community-based projects that will receive NatureWorks grant money.

The grants will support the acquisition of more than 23 acres of green space, the development or improvement of 21 playgrounds, 12 shelters and gazebos, seven park restrooms, two spray-splash pads, a skate park and dozens of other local improvement projects that will help make Ohios park infrastructure more enjoyable for all Ohioans, according to ODNR.

Stokes said officials hope to replace the fences in the spring.

Theyre quite old and in disrepair and overdue for having them replaced, Stokes said.

5 steps to creating a landscape design - January 22, 2015 by Mr HomeBuilder

A GOOD PLAN: It takes time, and a bit of effort, but at the end of the process you will have a garden to enjoy for years to come.

Good gardens don't just happen; they're the results of careful planning and observation.

I suggest you get to know your property over the course of at least all four seasons before you commit to any major design changes or installations.

Observe the way the light hits your property throughout the year, how water flows and where additional privacy is needed. All this can only become truly clear once you've paid attention and studied these effects over time.

Designing your landscape equipped with that knowledge can then be one of the most rewarding projects you'll ever embark upon. And beginning that process at the start of a fresh new year is the ideal time to get going.

Here are five steps to creating a basic landscape design:

1. Create a base map

Sketch your existing outdoor area showing property lines, the house's orientation, driveways and paths. Start at the front corner of the house.

With an extra long tape measure, find the distance out to the curb and across to the nearest property line, and draw it onto graph paper. (A scale of 2.5 centimetres per 3m works well, but pick whatever works for you and stay consistent through the drawing.) The larger the grid paper, the easier it will be to write in all your plans and ideas.

Continue measuring from all corners of the house to the property's boundaries. Draw an arrow indicating north. Locate doors and windows, gas, electric and cable utilities, trees and shrubs and any neighbours' features near the property line that might affect your design, such as large trees, fences or buildings.
