Cost to Install Gutters in 2019 – Inch Calculator - October 3, 2019 by Mr HomeBuilder

Gutters are a crucial part of your home to control water and moisture around the home and foundation. Adding gutters is an easy way to reduce the risk of water issues in the future and to protect your foundation.

The average cost of a new gutter installation is $1,000, and the average range is $750 $2,000. However, the material used and the cost of labor could add to that price. The linear feet of gutters needed, number of downspouts, and length of downspouts will also impact the price of the installation.

Extras like gutter guards, screens, or underground drainage will also drive up the price of an installation, but could also reduce the cost of long-term maintenance or improve the system.

The type of gutter material selected will greatly impact the price of the project, and some will require some professional help with the installation.

Along with the gutters and downspouts, you will also need hangers to hold your gutters in place, and roof flashing if the old flashing needs to be replaced. However, you could do this as a DIY project if you have the ladders, time, tools, and know-how.

Vinyl gutters are probably the least expensive gutter material, and they do not rust. The downside to vinyl is that extreme cold or heat will affect it. Vinyl expands and contracts with the heat and cold.

Therefore, this material is not recommended for extreme climate areas, and even in moderate climates, you will need to replace vinyl sooner than a metal alloy gutter. Expect to pay $4-8 for each piece of gutter and $5-15 for downspout extensions.

Aluminum gutter comes in a variety of weights. Aluminum is more durable than vinyl but costs a few more dollars per piece. Figure $6-12 per piece for gutters and downspouts.

Steel gutters are one of the most durable materials and last the longest. You can expect to pay between $15 and $35 per piece for steel gutter and the downspouts.

Copper gutters will develop a unique patina as they age and look excellent, but the price can be prohibitive for some homeowners. Expect to pay $50-100 per piece for copper gutters, downspouts, and connectors.

Although sectional gutters are cheaper because you can get them as stock off the shelf, seamless gutters cost a bit more, but there are no seams where leaks could spring up. Even well-caulked or sealed seams will breakdown over the years. If you can afford the higher initial expense, it is wiser to install seamless gutters.

Whichever you choose, seamless or sectional, vinyl, aluminum, steel, or copper, get at least three estimates, and then choose a licensed and insured installer with references.

Using gutter guards is an inexpensive method of preventing the need to hire someone to clean your gutters. There are several different styles you can get

One popular option is a clip-on mesh or screen. It covers the gutter so leaves and pine needles dont get into the gutters and form a dam, which will eventually cause rainwater to overflow and defeat the purpose of the gutters.

An alternative option is a foam insert that prevents obstructions in the gutter but is still porous and allows water to flow through it.

For the price of one cleaning, you can have one of these options added.

If you forego a solution to preventing leaves and brush from getting in the gutter be prepared to clean them regularly. You can likely get a local handyman service to clean them for $75-150.

Another option is a pressure wash attachment that costs $25 or $30 on average. These attachments are quite long so you wont even have to get on a ladder to keep your gutters debris-free.

Seamless Gutter Installation and Replacement Gutters … - October 3, 2019 by Mr HomeBuilder

    ';var endspan ='';var a ='';var enda ='';

Just think of a process that serves as the connection between a gutter product and the long-term success of your outdoor home. A great gutter system needs a quality product, a quality install, and a reliable warranty. The gutter installation is a major part of this equation.

LeafGuards seamless gutter system is specially designed to shed debris and leaves with ease, and is custom fit to the houses dimensions upon installation. While a good gutter installation wont magically transform a sub-par product into a terrific one, it can ensure that a terrific product continues to function at a high level for a very long time.

The key to remember is that not all gutter installations are the same. You have to consider exactly how many pieces are being installed, and how they are connecting to your house and to your downspouts.

Standard gutter installations will connect gutter pieces together to form a complete unit. LeafGuard's system is considered seamless, meaning that there are no parts or points of connection. We use state of the art technology to create a single piece curved hood design that allows rainwater to slide around the hood and through the gutter's trough. There's a very thin space between the gutter hood and the bottom so that no dirt, debris, leaves, small animals or anything else can infiltrate the system.

Instead of connecting the gutters beneath the shingles, LeafGuard installs the gutter system directly to the already existing fascia board. This is much more efficient and stays within the limits of your roof's warranty. Also installed is a unique guarding baffle that prevents leaves, grime and just about anything else from compromising the gutter from behind.

A gutter installation signifies a change. A LeafGuard installation rings in a new chapter in the life of the homeowner, as he or she will never again have to climb up on the ladder to unclog the gutters. Other benefits of the LeafGuard gutter installation include:

A LeafGuard gutter installation is supported by a lifetime warranty. Each component has a ScratchGuard paint finish that is also covered for life. This special finish prevents the gutters from peeling and cracking to not only maintain functionality but also for improved aesthetics.

Warranties or guarantees are key for any gutter installation. Without them, how do you hold the company or the installation professionals accountable?

Homeowners should lean on the experience of a professional and licensed gutter installation crew. Professionals are able to get the job done right and in an efficient manner, giving the homeowner priceless peace of mind. As soon as the LeafGuard installation team hits the scene, they'll disassemble your old gutters and dispose of them in the proper manner. They'll then verify your building's measurements to ensure that the new gutters will fit without any complications.

LeafGuard seamless gutters are formed on the job site during installation. The crew utilizes a special roll-forming machine inside of a truck. It makes use of aluminum coil that is 20% thicker than traditional gutters. The coil is shaped into the unique form of the patented LeafGuard gutters. Aside from the gutters, downspouts and miters are also formed and each comes with the ScratchGuard paint finish for enhanced durability. As each piece is formed in the roll-forming machine, it is precisely measured to the dimensions of the home.

Once the gutters are formed, the team inserts the LeafGuard patented hangars into them. They are installed exactly two feet apart to maximize stability. End caps are then connected to the gutters.

The gutters are connected to the already existing fascia board with high quality screws and internal fasteners that are designed to hold up through inclement weather.

The team precisely measures each gutter's pitch to ensure an efficient flow of water. Downspouts are then attached and reinforced to remain in place. The downspout aluminum is 30% thicker than the average competitors' materials. Once everything is in place, the LeafGuard installation professionals remove all equipment and debris from the homeowners property.

Good gutters amount to very little without proper installation. Gutter installation entails more than just nailing a few gutters to the house it takes careful measurements and quality materials to create a seamless system. LeafGuard gutters are custom-fit on site and installed by licensed professionals. A quality installation is a crucial part of ensuring the long-term success of a gutter system.

Gutter Installation Cost Calculator: Estimate Prices For … - October 3, 2019 by Mr HomeBuilder

Estimate the cost of installing new seamless gutters and downspouts for your home.

Select various sizes, gutter materials (aluminum, zinc, copper), as well as optional accessories.

However, there are many other material options that will change this cost per linear foot, up or down.

Note that if the total price is less than $425, a minimum charge will be provided, as most contractors will not work for less. For example - if you needed 5 feet and 1 downspout installed, you would still pay a minimum of around $400.

K-style: these gutters have a flat bottom and back. At the same time, the front is usually curved or looks like an ogee (replicating crown molding on the ceiling). There are many beautiful shapes and decorative designs to choose from, so you can create a customized look for your home.

Half-round: these are simple looking, no frills half-round shape tubes. Don't be deceived by their seemingly plain aesthetic. Half-round gutters look beautiful on classic and historic homes.

The biggest difference between these two types of gutters is the price. K-style gutters cost as much as 50% more per linear foot than half-rounds. They also hold twice as much debris, leaves, water, etc, because they are deeper. In terms of width, both type are either 5 or 6 inches wide.

If you live in the snow country, its strongly recommended to install .032- or .027 gauge aluminum (this is thicker than standard) to ensure long lasting service.

All aluminum seamless gutters have an "ogee" or a so-called K-style profile. If you want round, box or other type of gutter, it will not be seamless. It will be a custom job and will cost significantly more than regular K-style.

Costs start at $10 per linear foot and increase depending on installation difficulties. Its best to order primary aluminum materials, as opposed to secondary, because they are made of recycled metal and may not be as durable. Galvanized Steel GuttersSteel is considered to be a very strong metal and these gutters will stand up well to damage from ladders, branched, impact from falling objects, etc. Steel gutters are available in numerous colors and can also be painted. However, their biggest downside is that eventually they will rust. This may happen as quickly as 5-7 years after installation, at which point replacement may be necessary. Because of rusting, most homeowners choose aluminum gutters over steel, even though they are more expensive.

Price for steel gutters starts at $9-10 per linear foot installed. It is also possible to install stainless steel gutters, which will never rust. However, they cost double, with prices starting at $20 per linear foot installed.

Inside and outside corners of copper metal gutters should be soldered (whereas for aluminum and zinc, they are caulked with special "gutter seal").

Copper gutters also use special round or box copper drain pipes, and custom-made elbows. Because of a much higher materials cost and a lot of custom labor, the cost of installing copper gutters starts at $40 per linear foot and goes up from there with complexity of the job.

Other manufacturers of zinc gutters include OrnaMetals and some smaller, less known firms. Zinc cannot be produced on site, unlike aluminum and copper, because zinc is a very hard metal, and requires special machinery to bend and form. Zink also cannot be seamless.

Zinc gutter costs start at about $45-50 per linear foot, installed. The price increases as job complexity goes up.

You should budget to spend about $13-14 per linear foot for new PVC boards and trim (this includes removal of the ol fascia). If you are interested in metal trim, the total price will be about the same.

    Making Seamless Gutters on site

Once the section is rolled out of the machine, it is measured and cut to exact length, which is about 2 inches longer than roof edge, to capture water that comes off roof sides.

Once a section is cut, end caps are installed. Holes are punched or cut about 6-8" from each end or were needed, outlets are installed and all penetrations are sealed with gutter seal caulk. Then hangers with self-tapping screws are installed every 18" - 24". Other types of hangers can also be used, but not recommended for K-Style.

Once all accessories are installed, a complete section is lifted by 1, 2 or 3 installers and is screwed to the fascia board, making sure that outlets are pitched slightly down from the rest of the gutter to create positive slope for better drainage.

    1. As we discussed earlier, the average cost to install seamless gutters is around $10-12 per linear foot. Regardless of where in the US you live, most contractors will charge in this ball park. If you are getting pricing over $17 per linear foot, you are most likely being ripped off and should stay away from this company!

    2. We recommend getting 3-4 free estimates from local reputable contractors. This will help you compare pricing and find a pro with the best references.

    3. You can get a small discount of around 5-7% from a company that has their own roll forming machine. They will come in and manufacturer your gutters right on site.

    4. Make sure that your contractor installs gutters with proper slope. This is one of things that can go wrong with installation. The drains should be BELOW the low point of your gutters; otherwise water will stand there, contributing to rot and mold growth.

    5. It is very important to replace any broken or rotted fascia boards behind the gutters. This is their nailing surface, and if the boards are falling apart, your new gutters will simply not stay in their place.

    6. If you live in an area that gets a lot of snow and ice dams, it is best to install leaf guards. These will help minimize the damage that ice dams cause.

    7. You really don't need to spend money on "premium" leaf guard systems. Simple options sold in big box home improvement stores cost a lot less, work just as well, and are much easier to clean and remove.

Gutter Installation – Gutters Plus - October 3, 2019 by Mr HomeBuilder

Gutters installed at an improper or level pitch prevents water from flowing down the downspouts and creates areas of standing water causing rust through or insect infestation Precise slope of the gutters ensures optimal rate of water flow toward the downspouts. If you dont do this the gutters will hold water which can cause the gutter to pull away from the home because of the weight of the gutters Our installers check every gutter with a level to insure correct insulations practice.

A downspout in the wrong location or no downspout at all leads to standing water or overflows during heavy rains. Proper location and proper number of downspouts have to be calculated. Wrong location can mean water getting into your home or cause foundation issues. Not enough downspouts can lead to standing water in the gutters or overflows during heavy rain.

A prime consideration for an efficient gutter system is the number, and placement, of downspouts, which carry water from the gutters to the ground. The team at Gutters Plus understands that homeowners generally prefer, for aesthetic reasons, to minimize the number of downspouts and use their expert knowledge to calculate and conceal the optimal amount of downspouts for your home.

Flashing is hardware installed between the back of the gutters and the roofline. No flashing or not enough flashing exposes bare wood and can damage your shingles or deck underneath We always install gutters behind the flashing to prevent wood damage. Homes with no flashing or incorrect flashing exposes bare wood to moisture and can damage your shingles, fascia or roof decking.

The fascia is the long, straight board that runs along the lower edge of your roof. If gutters are installed plum to roof on the fascia, they will not carry as much water away. Fascia can be plum or angled and may have trim at the top next to the roofing material. When installing we make sure the placement of the gutter is correctly done and the products used insure they work correctly and dont sage over time.

Gutters should be installed with screws not nails and should also have supports strategically spaced under the gutters and screwed into the rafter tail to insure a good secure hold to the house. We use the strongest and best hidden hangers on the market . They are strategically spaced to insure your system is solid.

Gutters need to be aligned perfectly or you can have leaking seams. Seamless gutters only have seams at corners but need to be aligned perfectly and fastened and sealed correctly to avoid leaks. We use a generous amount of top grade sealant to achieve water tight corners & end caps.

Gutters: How to Fix Overflowing Gutters - October 3, 2019 by Mr HomeBuilder

An add-on splash guard prevent gutter overflows

Drill 1/8-in. holes through both the splash guard and the gutter.

Press the head of a 1/8-in. rivet into each hole.

Place the Pop rivet tool over the shaft of the rivet and squeeze the handle once or twice to compress the rivet and break off the stem.

If rainwater cascading down your roof valley causes a waterfall that washes out the petunias every time it storms, do this simple fix. It costs only a few dollars and takes about 20 minutes to complete. You can find these precut gutter splash guards (about $3) in both brown and white aluminum at a home center, but you could easily make your own out of aluminum or sheet metal and spray paint them to match your gutters. If you dont own a Pop riveter, attach the guards with 1/2-in. sheet metal screws instead.

Have the necessary tools for this DIY gutter splash guard project lined up before you startyoull save time and frustration.

How to Install Gutters: 6 Steps (with Pictures) - September 29, 2019 by Mr HomeBuilder

Gutter components are made by several manufacturers and are available through lumberyards, hardware stores, and home centers. The most popular gutter style is 5-in. Type K. It's a universal size and shape, so you can mix brands, In fact, there are times when it pays to shop around. Our local home center, for example, had attractive prices, but only sold gutters in 10-ft. lengths. To get the 20-ft. lengths we wanted, we bought a different brand at a lumberyard and combined these with components from the home center.

Gutters come in 10-, 20-, and 33-ft. lengths. Downspouts come in 3- and 4-in. widths, 10 ft. long. If you have trees overhead, choose 4-in. downspouts and outlet fittings and then install gutter screens. This inexpensive combination can save you from repeated overflows, corrosion, and dangerous ladder work.

Beyond the gutter and downspouts, you'll find inside and outside corner pieces, end caps, slip[joint slice fittings, downspout elbows and a variety of fasteners. And to make the system watertight, you'll need a tube or two of high-quality, gutter lap sealer. The components can be joined with either 1/8 in. Pop rivets or sheetmetal screws. Screws and rivets are usually available in the same colors that the gutters come in. Touchup paint is also available.

The greatest variety is in the hangers and fasteners. For years, gutters were fastened with spikes and ferrules or hanger straps. Spikes and ferrules were used most often on eaves with vertical fascia boards. Hangers worked better on roofs with angled fascias or exposed rafter tails. Today, hidden hangers are almost universally preferred. These span the inside of the gutter, and cannot be seen from the found.

We found two types of hidden hangers: a heavier version with a built-in fastening screw and a lighter version that can be nailed or screwed. The lighter hangers cost less and work well, so we used them almost exclusively, about every 2 ft. We used the heavier design at stress points such as corners and near downspouts.

Water is vital for our existence, but it can be a menace to your property. During a rain fall, the run-off from your roof can cause serious damage to your home or business resulting in costly repairs. Over time, the puddling of water around your foundation breaks down the barrier that protects it from the elements, leaving a vulnerable point of entry. Some of the potential damage could result in ruined wood floors, molded carpeting, wood rot in the interior walls and damage to other structural components. With the immense amount of rain we receive here in South Florida, rain gutters play a vital role in protecting your most important investment. Call us NOW(954) 603-1888 or contact us online to find out more about pricing or if you would like to schedule your FREE QUOTE.

Many traditional types of gutters are sold in small sections and require seams and fittings. Each one of these fittings is a potential spot for leaks to occur. Seamless gutters are different. A contractor custom fabricates these to do away with these fittings. The term seamless is a bit confusing because there are seamshowever, this is only at corners and downspouts. Additionally, the contractor securely seals these joints so the water only drains through the downspout. While there is an additional cost for anything that must be custom made, the seamless gutters are quite affordableespecially when you consider the long term benefits of this style of gutter.

Seamless gutters look great! Without all the seams and fittings, this style has a streamlined, attractive appearance that works well on nearly any home. Additionally, they can be created using a number of materials and colors, so they will work with many different architectural styles. However, the real benefits of seamless gutters are functional. They are less likely to leak and cause potential damage such as rotted wood fascia that most often occurs in the joined areas. Also, since they are custom made for your home, the fit will be perfect, enabling them to do the best possible job protecting your home and landscaping from water damage.

Once you have decided that seamless gutters are the right option for you, it is time to choose a licensed gutter service to get the job done. But first, research the company you have in mind and make sure you choose one that has experience working with these types of gutters. At Gutter it UP! We specialize in ALL forms of gutter installations. Whether its a commercial or residential property, we have the knowledge and expertise to help you protect your investment.
