The City of Douglas continues work on various projects. This work is being completed by the Department of Public works and is part of the Mayor and Councils ongoing infrastructure improvement program.

Please be aware of the need for water conservation. 3rd Street & Chino Road

All vehicles traveling to Mexico via the Port of Entry continue to use Chino Road to Pan American Avenue. Heavy commercial trucks continue to be diverted to 3rd Street via H Avenue. Construction roadside improvements will begin soon and will include sidewalk installation and street light installation on 3rd Street and Chiricahua Avenue to Chino Road.

Curbing Installation

Curb and gutter installation is taking place on Laura Avenue and Division Avenue between 18th and 19th Street. Construction hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Christmas Decorations

City crews continue with the installation of Christmas decorations in the downtown area.

Fire hydrant and water system maintenance continues along with miscellaneous concrete sidewalk repairs, pothole patching, cleanup, and graffiti cleanup throughout the city. If you have questions, please contact the Department of Public Works at 417-7329. Should problems arise with water and/or sewer services on the weekend or a holiday, please contact the Douglas Police Department at 417-7550, and on-call staff will be dispatched to your residence.

ATLANTA, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A Georgia company could be liable for $459 million in damages after the state high court ruled Monday the company illegally sent more than 300,000 junk faxes.

The Georgia Supreme Court ruled unanimously that American Home Services had violated a 1991 consumer protection law that said companies could not clog up fax machines by sending unsolicited ads, The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.

The siding, window and gutter installation business hired a Texas company in 2002 and 2003 to help promote its business. The Texas company sent out 306,000 unsolicited faxes across the metro area.

A firm in Norcross, Fastsigns, filed a class-action lawsuit against AHS claiming it had violated federal consumer laws.

At issue was whether AHS was responsible only for the six faxes Fastsigns received. The court ruled the company was responsible for all the thousands it sent.

A Fulton County court has already ruled AHS was liable for $1,500 for each of the 306,000 faxes sent.
