Home security systems are meant to help people feel safe in their own houses. But some scam artists are using that sense of protection to their advantage.

The sticker in your window or sign in your front yard from a security company may be an open invitation to thieves.

Brentmeade Subdivision homeowner Dena Crowder says she has door-to-door security alarm system salesmen who keep coming back to her home.

"We said, 'No,' but they continue to talk. So I had to close the door on them," Crowder said.

Crowder said the men travel in packs and have been canvassing the neighborhood.

"There have been three different groups that have come through here for security systems," Crowder said.

She didn't bite on the pitch. She's already learned her lesson on that.

"I have fallen victim before on credit card scams, where people take money out of your account," Crowder said.

But several people in Murfreesboro fell for it after salesmen for a group called AMP Security, out of Utah, misrepresented themselves as Honeywell Security or ADT, according to neighbors.
