Detroit, MI (PRWEB) May 02, 2013
TopConsumerReviews.com named the top home security companies in Detroit for 2013. TopConsumerReviews.com provides independent reviews for thousands of products including home security systems reviews in order to help consumers make well informed decisions.
According to Forbes magazine, Detroit is listed as the #1 most violent city in the United States. That calculates to approximately 16,000 rapes, murders, assaults and robberies each year in a population of only 700,000 residents. Property crimes are also significant in Detroit, with 1 in every 16 individuals becoming a victim each year.
Safeguarding a home is imperative to the residents of Detroit for the protection of both their families and valuables. Experts suggest that strategically placed exterior lighting and dead bolts, at each point of entry, are important in reducing the risk of an intruder but that may not be enough for residents of this city. A home security system provides an added layer of protection that many are looking for.
TopConsumerReviews.com, an independent organization dedicated to providing reviews of home security systems each year, found that customer satisfaction with home security systems was contingent on a list of key attributes. Analysts found that when choosing a home security system, customers were most satisfied when their system offered the latest in home security technology, 24 monitoring service, and affordable pricing.
Wireless home security systems were identified as the most flexible and user friendly for those that rented their properities. In addition, many customers reported a positive response to home security systems that offered remote access technology. Lastly, TopConsumerReviews.com identified that choosing a reliable home security system with flexible system customization and affordable package options would best meet the needs of each individual homeowner's security needs and also save money.
Brian Dolezal of TopConsumerReviews.com explains, "With today's crime rates, many families are looking for the best home security system to safeguard their home. Making the right home security decision can be a long and frustrating process for those homeowners who are unfamiliar with home security. TopConsumerReviews.com has closely reviewed several home security systems to help customers make better informed decisions."

Leading telecom company AT&T Inc. ( T ) will unveil the Digital Life package, its home security and automation service, on May 3, in 15 cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and Miami. The new product includes security cameras, thermostats and locks that can be controlled from phones and tablets.
The company targets to penetrate 50 markets with its digital life products by this year-end. We believe that product diversification will enable AT&T to grow beyond its legacy market and generate incremental revenues in the coming years.
The company stated in its press release that the market for home security services remains significantly unaddressed as only 1% of the U.S. households have automated security system. As a result, the company sees a potential financial opportunity to tap an $18 billion market of automated home security systems.
AT&T has so far seen more success in this market compared to its peers thanks to its own technology in home security digital products and adequate measures to market and promote these products.
AT&T has priced the equipment and installation of a home security package for $250 with monthly charges of $40 per month. In addition, the company also offers a camera package for $10 per month along with equipment and installation, climate control for $5 per month, and a remote water main shutoff control for $10 per month. However, a basic package with only security would cost around $150 initially and $30 per month.
The company already enjoys strong momentum in both wireline and wireless businesses. While continued strength in smartphones is fueling growth in wireless business, wireline is benefiting from growth in its U-verse and strategic services.
AT&T is the leader in WiFi (wireless broadband) connectivity with over 30,000 domestic and 190,000 international hotspots. We believe the addition of Disney content will fuel growth in U-verse services, resulting in higher data revenues in the wireline segment.
Other positive attributes for the company include a strategic realignment initiative and a healthy financial profile. However, persistent access line losses, competitive pressure from the likes of Verizon Communications ( VZ ) and regulatory issues will likely weigh on the stock in the coming days.
AT&T, which competes with other industry players like Sprint Nextel Corp. ( S ) and MetroPCS Communications, Inc. ( PCS ) retains a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).

NEW YORK AT&T Inc. is launching its home security and automation service in 15 cities, with an eye toward getting customers hooked on security cameras, thermostats and locks they can control from phones and tablets.
AT&Ts Digital Life packages will be sold in cellphone stores in markets including Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and Miami. The company plans to roll the offering out to 50 markets by the end of the year.
The field of home monitoring and automation is dominated by security firms such as ADT Corp. Other phone and cable companies sell security packages, but AT&T is going further than competitors by developing its own technology and selling it nationwide, not just where it provides local phone service. It has set up monitoring centers in Dallas and Atlanta.
The entire U.S. home security market is worth about $18 billion a year, said Glenn Lurie, who is in charge of expanding the reach of AT&Ts network to new types of devices. Thats small compared with AT&Ts $127 billion in annual revenue. But only 20 percent of homes have security systems, so theres an opportunity to expand the market, Lurie said.
The initiative comes as the wireless industry has slowed after a decade of heady growth. Now that nearly everyone has a cellphone, wireless companies are looking for other sources of growth.
We see huge opportunity here. This is a significant, billion-dollar opportunity for AT&T, Lurie said.
AT&T hopes to get customers to pay more than the typical $40 a month for home security alone by providing connections to wireless cameras and other sensors.
AT&T will charge $250 for the equipment and installation of a home security package, plus $40 a month.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - AT&T Inc will kick off its home security and monitoring service in 15 U.S. markets on Friday, seeking to develop revenue streams beyond cellphone services.
The No. 2 U.S. mobile service provider expects its Digital Life service to eventually bring in $1 billion in annual revenue.
While AT&T, which reported first quarter revenue of $31.4 billion, still sells a lot of smartphones, growth in this sector is slowing for operators and AT&T posted a net loss of phone subscribers in the first quarter. Cable rival Comcast Corp is also offering home security services in an effort to broaden revenues.
After its initial launch in cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver and San Francisco, AT&T said it will bring the service to as many as 50 U.S. markets by the end of 2013.
For AT&T's most basic home security service, it will charge $29.99 a month and an additional $149.99 fee for equipment and its installation. Comcast's lowest listed price for its security service is $39.95 per month.
Additional options include motion sensors, smoke sensors, live video streaming from the house, water leak detection and remote control of appliances, lights, doors and thermostats.

AT&T launches home security, monitoring service in U.S.

AT&T already provides telephone, Internet and cable television services to homes. Now, it wants to secure and automate those homes, too.
Houston is one of the first 15 cities where the telecommunications giant will make available starting Friday Digital Life, a customizable home security and automation product that puts it in competition with large, established players in the market.
The service starts with 24-hour security monitoring and then allows customers to layer on numerous high-tech options.
Digital Life lets customers control their home thermostats, remotely lock and unlock doors and monitor their homes by video. Other options include water leak sensors and the ability to shut off the water flowing into a home.
Glenn Hatcher, AT&T's director of sales for the Houston market, said Digital Life is a platform on which other services can later be added.
"This is just the beginning point," Hatcher said. "We believe the market for home automation and the digitization of everyone's life is really at the launching point."
The service starts at two initial price and feature levels: Simple Security, for $29.99 a month, which offers basic security monitoring, and Smart Security, which costs $39.99 per month and adds some home-automation features.
The two services also have installation costs of $149.99 and $249.99, respectively.
Smart Security customers can add additional services, for additional fees. For example, the Water Detection Package, which can sense water leaks in specific locations, adds $4.99 a month and a one-time installation charge to customers' bills.
Digital Life lets customers control and customize many of the features via apps for the Web, Android, iOS and Windows Phone devices.

TopConsumerReviews.com has named the best home security systems in Georgia for 2013. TopConsumerReviews.com provides independent reviews for thousands of products, including top home security systems, in order to help consumers make the best decision possible.
Surprisingly, residents in the beautiful state of Georgia encounters 34 crimes per square mile each year. Burglaries and thefts are also significant in Georgia with over 350,000 occurrences each year. That means that one in every 28 residents will become a victim of property crime annually. Also, one in every 268 residents will be a victim of a violent crime. For many Georgia residents, they feel a need to not only protect their home and belongings but the people living inside. Dead bolts and exterior lighting can deter some criminals but a home security system is the best defense against a would-be intruder.
TopConsumerReviews.com, an independent organization dedicated to providing unbiased reviews of home security systems each year, found that customer satisfaction on home security systems was contingent on a list of key attributes. Those identified features were systems that provided affordable pricing, the very latest technology, and the added layer of 24 monitoring service. TopConsumerReviews.com also saw a trend in customers who want remote access to their home security systems to help manage their busy lives.
Wireless home security systems continued their upswing in popularity for 2013. Wireless home security systems have little to no installation damage or costs. Additionally, wireless systems often use cellular technology to maintain a connection with the monitoring service and therefore are flexible for home owners without landlines and provide a higher level of security should a wire or connection get cut from the outside.
