LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
CES 2013 iSmart Alarm, Inc. (www.ismartalarm.com) today unveiled a new alarm system that utilizes the iPhone to revolutionize the modern day home security experience. The system, with iCameraTM video and picture alert and notifications, is the first to allow iPhone users the ability to arm, monitor, and disarm their security systems anytime and anywhere in real time. The iSmartAlarm offers a simple setup and no contracts or monthly fees. The company will be showcasing a working version of the iSmartAlarmTM product at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES, booth 6519) in Las Vegas held Jan. 8-11.
People are already using their iPhones in all facets of their lives, so it was natural to extend the use to home security, said Raymond Meng, Co-Founder & CEO, iSmart Alarm. By incorporating the iPhone into our system, people can now use their iPhones to protect their homes, belongings and, most importantly, their loved ones in safer and more intelligent ways.
The iSmartAlarm puts a 21st century spin on traditional security systems. The sleek, sophisticated design sets up in minutes with no need for professional installation. Simply plug the CubeOneTM, the brains of the system, into any outlet and connect to an Internet router. Then attach the wireless window sensors, door sensors, motion detectors and cameras in any room you want to monitor. If the alarm is triggered by suspicious activity, the system will phone the user instantly and automatically take five pictures from different angles, moments apart, and send them to the users iPhone.
The iSmartAlarmTM allows you to see what is happening at your house no matter where you are, judge the situation quickly, and make the right decisions to protect what matters most, said Raymond Meng. Additionally, an alert message will also be sent immediately to your family members or other contacts allowing you and your loved ones to stay out of harms way.
While traditional security systems are built into the home, the iSmartAlarmTM is a portable home security solution, making it ideal for not only house owners, but also renters living in apartments. With no monthly fees and no contracts, the iSmartAlarmTM will save customers thousands of dollars for the life of the product over conventional home security systems.
In addition to protecting homes, the iSmartAlarm is an open platform and could be used for a variety of household purposes including turning lights on and off, controlling room temperature remotely, monitoring for carbon monoxide gas, smoke and water leaks, tracking your pets and feeding your pets on your schedule.

A new home security system due to be showcased at this year's CES transforms the iPhone into an image-supported burglar alarm, enabling users to make rapidfire decisions about their home security from afar.
Called the iSmartAlarm, the device incorporates wireless window sensors and camera technology to create a home security system. Users connect the central hub of the system, called the CubeOne, into a power outlet and a wireless router and then connect the wireless door and window sensors, motion detectors and cameras to strategic points around their house.
When the system is activated, in the result of a break-in for example, the system will phone the user's mobile and automatically take five pictures, a few moments apart, and send them to the user's iPhone. The iSmartAlarm will also send a message to the user's family, or other phone contacts, alerting to them to the fact that the alarm has detected suspicious activity. The service does not require a subscription fee.
Also at CES this year will be home security solutions company Alarm.com. Initially launched in 2010, the company now manufactures an integrated home support system that enables users to control several aspects of their home, such as lights and blinds, from afar as well as view a live video feed of their house or apartment. Subscriptions to the service vary depending upon the number of connected devices in the user's home.

Raleigh, N.C. A Raleigh couple's home security system could help them find the criminals who broke into their home.
Matt Robinson installed eight cameras in different places around his home as a way to keep an eye on his dog.
The cameras can be accessed online or by using a smartphone, but Robinson said he and his wife had trouble pulling them up Saturday night while they were out of town for the holidays.
A relative went to their home to check things out and found the house had been burglarized.
"Three kicks is all it took" to break through the back door, Robinson said Tuesday.
He retrieved the video that recorded the the burglary. It shows the three thieves casually walking around the house for nearly 15 minutes looking for valuables. One of them even used a knife to open a box.
"Imagine seeing your own house and people that should not be there going through your stuff. It is not a good feeling," Robinson said.
One of the thieves eventually noticed the video cameras and is seen in the video cutting the cables to at least one of them. Bleach also was poured over a box that records the video from the cameras, but it wasn't enough to erase the images of the burglary.
Robinson put the video on YouTube and has passed out fliers in his neighborhood, asking anyone who recognizes the people on the tape to call police.
The thieves stole about $1,500 in cash and electronics, he said, but they also took something on which he cannot put a dollar figure.

TopConsumerReviews.com Publishes the Top Trends in Home Security Systems
Overland Park, KS (PRWEB) January 03, 2013
Home burglaries occur approximately every 13 seconds in the US. Residential properties without a working security system are 300% more likely to have a break in occurrence. Statistics show that many home invasions actually occur during daylight hours, especially during the summer months when children may be home during summer break.
Home security systems have evolved dramatically from even 10 years ago. Many of the most noteworthy trends today are the result of technology improvements:
Wireless Home Security
The move toward wireless home security systems is one that many companies are quickly converting to. Wireless technology means faster, cheaper and less invasive installation. Homeowners no longer a required to maintain a landline or lose services should an outside wire be tampered with.
Video Technology
Camera and video technology have become a much desired trend in home security systems. With the use of a computer or smart phone, homeowners may quickly look at the interior or exterior of their home to look for potential intruders, check on the arrival of children and more. Todays affordably priced cameras make it feasible to place real-time HD cameras at several key location around the home.
Self Monitoring
Improvements in mobile technology have contributed to a trend in self-monitoring. With this option, a home security system notifies the homeowner you if the alarm has been triggered. This gives the homeowner the chance to check real-time video monitoring and call the authorities as needed.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
A Pueblo couple is out nearly $200 after what they called a potential home security scam.
Tami Sheets and her husband, Dan Sheets, said they have been using Beacon Security Services for 20 years. Tami Sheets said in 2005, new owners took over the company.
"On Friday the owner called my husband saying he was branching off and going into his own business. He said he was getting a divorce and his wife was keeping the company," said Sheets.
The owner came over and rewired the couple's alarm system, routing it from Beacon Security to his new company, said Sheets. He asked for Tami Sheets to write a check for $195 for the new service.
"I wrote a check out in his name. I shouldn't have done that. You never write a check in a person's name, only a business name," said Sheets.
The next morning, Sheets said, she got up to let her dog out and had forgotten to disarm the alarm.
"The alarms started going off, and it was the old company calling to see what was going on. I thought, 'Well, wait a minute, I'm supposed to be with the new company,'" she said.
Sheets called the owner who said he would come fix the problem on Saturday, but he never showed up, she said.
"If the alarm hadn't gone off, I would have just assumed that he did transfer us to the new company and we had service monitoring our alarms," said Sheets.

What kind of home security system, if any, should I have that would deters burglars? How much should I budget to spend to prevent a home invasion? In the past decade as a homeowner, I have answered these questions differently. At times, I went with the most basic solution that had a one time cost of new hardware. At other times opted for a monitored system that cost $30-40 a month to maintain in addition to installation cost. Here are some options I considered.
Basic home security
As a brand new homeowner, I used common sense to thwart intruders. My basic home security system consisted of a upgraded door lock and deadbolt. Entry level brands such as Defiant and Kwikset cost about $25-30. Higher end brands with sophisticated deterrent systems such as Baldwin, Schlage or Medeco cost $50 to upwards of $100, and required a locksmith to install. When I was traveling, I put a stop on my newspaper and mail delivery. I also put a few lamps on timers in different rooms. Later, I continued to use these basic security measures and added other simple measures, like keeping my sprinkler system on a timer and installing external motion activated lights over the garage and front and back yards.
Monitored home alarm system
A monitored home alarm system including motion sensors from a national security company like ADT, Brinks or Slomin's Shield typically costs $100 to install and $30-40 a month to monitor for break ins. Cellphone and battery backups (in case of loss of phone service or power) are often extra. Fire and smoke alarm monitoring typically costs another $35. My 3 year contract promised a fixed rate and it was transferable to a new owner for the same house or to me if I moved. It also got me a 20% discount on my home insurance, which amounted to over $100 and essentially paid for 3 months of monitoring.
In fact, when I moved into my house, it had an existing alarm system. The previous owner had disconnected the service but left the pincode. Before I got my own home security system, I was able to use to make sure the doors were locked (indication on keypad) and even use an audible alarm in conjunction with a pin code. Of course, the "Protected by XYZ Alarm Company" stickers did not hurt either.
Video monitoring
Video monitoring, a must have for retail businesses, can also come in handy for homeowners with pets or young children, who are cared for at home while parents are at work. Recently I shopped around for a wireless 4 camera security system with DVR that cost $1500-2500 to install. The system showed and recorded the camera feed on a DVR and monitor, while it also streamed a live online video feed securely on the PC or smart phone. Once installed, there was no cost to monitor (although monitoring services were available from certain vendors).
Common sense
According to security experts, a well-lit neighborhood that has a high density of security systems deters most miscreants. However, despite this, lack of discretion and common sense can defeat the toughest security system. For example, a couple of my neighbors routinely leave a home key under a flower pot, doormat or above the door frame. I remember when I was selling my home, one realtor asked for the security code to my alarm system. Many of my friends share their upcoming travel plans on social media like Facebook, Twitter or personal blogs. In cases such as these, investing in a home security system can do little in providing security from home invasions or other crimes.
