Kitchen Remodeling – Back Construction - July 23, 2016 by Mr HomeBuilder

Pumping Up the Heart of Your Home

What room do you make the most memories in? What room makes you most likely to buy a house? Ask anyone these questions, and youll likely get the same answer: the kitchen. Food is one of the greatest sources of our memories, and we make long term memories when were with people; the kitchen is a great place to make memories with food and loved ones.

Almost everyone has memories of sitting in the kitchen of their family home, baking cookies, working furiously to prepare a holiday meal, or laughing with family, while searching for a snack in the fridge. Kitchens are where memories are made and houses are sold, so why not spruce up your kitchen? If youre serious about overhauling your kitchen, or just want to make a few changes, were here to help.

The biggest roadblocks faced by kitchen remodelers can usually be traced back to poor planning during the initial phase of the remodel, so it is imperative to plan. You must narrow down what essentials you need in your new kitchen, how you plan to use your kitchen, and, most importantly, what your budget is. If youre remodeling to resale, then your goals may be different than they would be if you were remodeling for your own needs.

Regarding your needs and uses for your new kitchen, ask yourself, what would make your current kitchen better, and what are you going to use your kitchen for? Some people only need a kitchen big enough to use a microwave when they get home from work at night. However, others require a full kitchen to cook with their whole family. A kitchen built for two wouldnt have enough room to accommodate a dozen people, so space and the need to move around must be considered.

Throughout the remodeling process, your budget and plan may change, as they often do, but it is crucial to keep them in mind and update them as the remodel goes along. When you start veering away from a plan and dont try to keep a budget, your remodel can go off the rails. Not to say that you cant change your mind as you go along; you should. As you go through the remodeling process, you will learn more about what you like, dont like, and decide to allocate funds toward different projects than what you originally planned. You shouldnt fear change, but you should keep your changes reasonable and attempt to stay on plan, budget, and your timeline.

You may be handy, design oriented, and a master of the art of cooking, but remodeling a kitchen is no small feat and not a home renovation project that most people are capable of handling alone. Most homeowners begin their kitchen remodeling project by visiting hardware stores or showrooms, maybe even talking to a few salespeople. While a salesperson can help you get an idea of what appliances, cabinets, stone, and hardware you might need, as well as initial estimates of how much those items will cost, you will eventually need the help of builders, contractors, plumbers, and electricians to bring it all together.

Many states require certain aspects of remodeling, such as electrical and plumbing, to be performed by licensed or certified professionals. Aside from required professionals, most homeowners who are remodeling a kitchen need the help of a builder or contractor to actually construct said kitchen. Unless, you think you can handle installing drywall, cabinetry, molding, stone, backsplashes, lighting, and hardware, while also navigating contracts, permits, layouts, product orders, plans, and budgets, then you need to hire qualified professionals, like BACK Construction, to bring your kitchen to life.

Once you know your needs, wants, and have a general plan, you must decide on your kitchen design. Design doesnt just mean the look of the kitchen. In fact, you should hold off on worrying about the look of the kitchen until you first plan your space, preliminary floor plans, layout, cabinet sizes, and the elevations of your counters and cabinets. Planning before worrying about the look of your kitchen gives you a better idea of how many square feet you have to work with. Knowing your square feet and planning your layout allows you to know how much flooring, stone, cabinets, etc. you need, so you can get more accurate prices when you get estimates on the materials you decide on.

After you nail down your layout and base plans, you can concern yourself with what you want your kitchen to look like and begin selecting your finishes and fixtures. Considering the style of your home and what style you want your remodeled kitchen to be, you will need to pick out flooring, cabinetry, countertop stones or other surfaces, appliances, sinks, hardware, backsplashes, light fixtures, molding and trim, and furnishings.

The plans have been laid, the budget discussed, the designs are on hand, and it is finally time to begin putting your kitchen remodeling plans into action. Before any construction of your new kitchen can begin, your old kitchen must be demolished and cleared out. If you are living in your home during the remodel, you should make alternative arrangements for storing food, cooking, or any other function you used your kitchen for. Many people stay with others during this time, an equal number choose to stay in the home, and some setup temporary kitchens to use for the duration of the remodel.

Once the old kitchen is out of the way, the construction of your remodeled kitchen can begin. The construction phase is where qualified professionals are the most essential. Without the help of expert craftsmen, like those at BACK Construction, construction can fall behind, measurements can throw floors, cabinets, and counters off, and orders may not be put in on time, leading to costly and annoying delays in the completion of your kitchen remodel. Finishing a kitchen remodel on time and correctly requires a lot of planning and qualified hands, but with the help of BACK Construction, your new kitchen will go from a sketch on your counter to you sitting at your new counter in no time.

Remodeling your kitchen can be a long process, but if you follow these helpful tips, your kitchen remodel will go faster and have less hiccups along the way. Not only will this guide help, but BACK Construction and our skilled craftsman are only a phone call away. Kitchen Remodel – Mechanicsville – Deep Run Renovations - July 15, 2016 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Project Objective:

Possessing all builder-quality cabinetry and appliances, it was certainly time for a product update throughout. The general layout of the kitchen was fine and suited the small family lifestyle. However, the space lacked a touch of style and pizzazz. The goal was to maintain the open, light color scheme, but introduce a few key design elements that added a bit of class.

    Scope of Work:

The 9' ceilings in the kitchen provided the perfect opportunity to add stacked wall cabinets, negating the dust-bunny space near the ceiling and creating an awesome visual row of cabinetry for a lighted display. As lighting can and will have a huge impact on the resulting charm of a kitchen, the long fluorescent strop light was replaced with recessed cans, complemented with both under-cabinet lighting and pendant lights over the peninsula. The standard issue vinyl flooring was replaced with a porcelain tile that carried into the adjacent eat-in area and mud room. All new stainless appliances and granite countertops capped off the transformation of this kitchen into a space that the homeowners now feel blends with the tastefulness and class found elsewhere in their house.

Remodeling your kitchen is a great way to improve both the appearance and functionality of one of the most commonly used rooms in your home. With an endless number of possibilities, configurations, and upgrades, a project like this can vary significantly in price based on your lifestyle needs and budget.

In order to decide which elements to remodel in your kitchen, first determine why youre interested in a kitchen remodel, what your projected budget is, and how you want your new kitchen to look and function. Our guide above is an easy way to visualize how much of your budget will be allocated to each upgrade throughout the kitchen remodel process. So whether you're simply interested in quick updates like replacing countertops and cabinets, or a complete remodel, you can create the kitchen of your dreams with helpful planning and budgeting from The Home Depot's award-winning kitchen design experts.

Achieving a total kitchen transformation is completely possible, even if your budget only allows for a few quick updates. A little creative planning can go a long way if youre willing to put in some work yourself as well, which means you can stretch your budget even further in order to upgrade the most important elements in your kitchen like cabinets and countertops, for example. Additional projects can include new light fixtures, paint, and even new cabinet hardware.

If youre looking to complete a full kitchen remodel, expect to spend between $10,000 - $20,000 in total for your project. If youre happy with your existing layout and willing to tackle some of the smaller projects yourself, you can easily create your ideal kitchen by upgrading your countertops, cabinets, sink and faucet, as well as adding new paint and light fixtures.

One of the main benefits of doing a complete kitchen remodel on a large budget of $30,000 - $50,000, is that you can customize the space to your exact specifications. With endless options to upgrade, from rearranging the layout to changing the flooring and appliances, youll have full control over the design and function of your new kitchen.

Kitchen Remodel: 101 Stunning Ideas for Your Kitchen Design - May 31, 2016 by Mr HomeBuilder

When it comes to designing and decorating a home, every little section of it is equally important each room must have its own unique flavor which will separate it from the rest, but will still fit with your theme. While both the living room and the bedrooms get plenty of attention, it is actually the kitchen that gives you loads of creative freedom. So if you are not happy with the look and feel of your current kitchen you should seriously think about remodeling.

Colorful ornaments in this stunning kitchen by Garrison Hullinger Interior Design

The first and foremost question that you need to address is why you are currently opting for a kitchen remodeling. There can be a variety of reasons, but most of them will include either cramped space, lack of smart storage options, reduced functionality and a look that is not trendy anymore. A culmination of these or even any one of the above should be enough for you to go for a remodeling that suits your needs. But remember that you need to convey what you are looking for to your designer, clearly, so that you get the results you want.

Contemporary Cape Cod style cottage charms with its calm colors by pav wilkinson

What most people do not know is that there are various ways in which you can remodel your kitchen. There are fundamentally 3 different routes that you can take

Pull and replace This type of remodel is pretty much what its name promises. Your designer will replace everything that currently lies in your kitchen with newer stuff and that includes cabinets, countertops, appliances and a lot more. Remember that in this form, you will still use the same floor plan, but it will be just a new look to the old kitchen template already in place.

Cosmetic makeover If you are planning to make just a few changes and are working on a small budget, then this is the perfect way forward. A cosmetic remodel will alter some simple things like kitchen countertop, a few cabinets, maybe new lighting or anything that needs to be tweaked slightly to still bring about a dramatic change in the look.

Custom renovation This is the full throttle version of things and you will get the entire thing here as you can change pretty much every aspect of your kitchen and even bring down a wall or two (if your home permits that) to add more space as well.

Current trends to look out for There are some simple and easy current trends that you can incorporate into your own kitchen remodeling scheme to get a more trendy look while also opting for perfect ergonomics.

Here are a few pointers for your kitchen remodel

Pick smartly when it comes to a designer and choose someone you are comfortable communicating with. Also, before you kick start the entire project look around and do ample research on kitchen models across design sites on the internet, which will give you fresh new ideas you can incorporate in your kitchen remodeling plans.

So here it is Our amazing list of kitchens that will inspire your remodeling

Kitchen Remodel: 101 Stunning Ideas for Your Kitchen Design

Kitchen & Bath Designers in Louisville – Houzz - May 26, 2016 by Mr HomeBuilder

What does a kitchen designer or bathroom designer do? A kitchen and bath design professional in Louisville knows to take all of these crucial points into consideration and can help plan the layout, materials and overall look and feel of either of these rooms in your home.

You can find more kitchen & bath designers in Louisville, Elizabethtown, Radcliff, Shelbyville and Bardstown.

Kitchen designers, as well as bathroom designers, are constantly staying on top of trends in the ever-changing industry. The designer also knows the best layout for your room, and can configure the layout for optimal functionality and utilization of the space. In the kitchen the refrigerator, stove and sink should be laid out in relation to one another, and it should be seamless and easy to move from one to the other. A kitchen and bath designer will know how to work with a contractor and architect to plan the flow of the room to work best for your needs. Here are some related professionals and vendors to complement the work of kitchen & bath designers: Kitchen & Bath Fixtures, Appliances, Tile, Stone & Countertops, Cabinets & Cabinetry, Carpenters.

Before you talk to bath and kitchen designers in Louisville, consider how you will use the room. For your bathroom, is it necessary to have a bathtub for bathing kids or pets, or would a shower suffice? Perhaps all you need is a half bath for downstairs or a smaller guest bath for occasional use. Similarly, for kitchen renovations consider your cooking habits. Do you eat out every night but need a space to entertain in? If so, a smaller kitchen might be fine for you, with a space devoted to wine storage or a bar, whereas others might prefer a bigger stove or extra cabinets. When interviewing kitchen and bath designers, make sure to share these habits so they can best fit the room to suit your needs.
