New Outdoor Kitchen Design Ideas For 2014- Bergen County NJ - December 14, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

    (PRWEB) December 14, 2013

    Outdoor Kitchen Design NJ

Outdoor kitchens are a great way to maximize the usage of space on your property as well as the time your family and friends can spend enjoying your backyard. They can provide a welcoming outdoor space for people to gather and peacefully wind down at the end of a long work day, or be a very functional and important focal point when hosting guests for a party or get together. Either way an outdoor kitchen can be one of the most rewarding additions to your backyard and should not be overlooked when rethinking the look and functionality of your property.

There are some exciting new features related to the outdoor kitchens, living and eating areas for 2014 that can make spending extended time outdoors even more comfortable and pleasant than it ever was. These features include radiant heating systems, televisions on lifts, surround sound systems and LED lighting fixtures.

The ability to still use your outdoor kitchen or bar late into the fall season and early in the spring season is possible through the use of radiant heating systems. The radiant heating system will heat the stones of your outdoor patio to near 90 degrees either through electricity or by pumping hot water through hidden pipes between and under the patio stones. The heated stones will aid in maintaining a more enjoyable microclimate on your patio as the weather starts to get cooler. In winter months the radiant heat melts the snow making the grill easy accessible.

Installing an outdoor TV in your outdoor kitchen or bar is another great way to lengthen the enjoyment of spending time outdoors in your own backyard. The TV will give you the option to stay outside longer and watch your favorite TV shows on a beautiful night instead of retreating indoors. It can also be the center of attention during a big sports game on the weekends or for watching movies with family friends. The beauty about installing a TV attached to a hydraulic lift is that you can hide and protect the TV when it is not in use. This way it wont stick out and detract from the view of your backyard, and can be protected from any harm caused by children or the environment.

Using a built in surround sound system in your outdoor kitchen design would help to enhance the experience of sitting outdoors. The outdoors tends to be noisier than sitting inside the walls of your home, so a surround system makes sure you hear everything at a comfortable level. It can also be hooked up to your favorite music adding to the experience and enjoyment you get from spending time in your backyard.

Finally, LED lighting when installed properly and used in the correct way, can enhance and show off many aspects of your beautiful outdoor kitchen. Aesthetically it will make your outdoor living space more pleasing as the sun begins to set and day turns into night. Functionally, LED lighting will also save you a significant amount of money in energy cost since they operate at 90% efficiency. This allows you to extend the lighting usage needed to make your walkways and outdoor kitchen safe for nighttime use. Another benefit of the LED fixtures is that they carry an extended warranty of 10-15 years for the unit as well as the bulb.

As individual items these are all great new features to enhance your backyard and maximize the usage of your property. Combined together they can create an incredible experience that will provide endless hours of return for your family as well as wow any guests that visit.

Mining Circle sculpture finds a permanent home on campus - December 12, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

    BERKELEY

A cold winter wind couldnt defeat the warm feelings Monday afternoon as sculptor and alumnus Bruce Beasleys Rondo II sculpture was formally accepted as a permanent part of the UC Berkeley landscape.

Im thrilled its going to stay here, said Beasley, a 1962 graduate of world renown whos works are in museums worldwide. It feels like it belongs here.

Here is in the round pool at the center of the Mining Circle in front of the Hearst Memorial Mining Building, where the sculpture was installed early in the summer, one of five from Beasleys Rondo series that the artist brought to campus as an outdoor gallery show.

Invisible underwater struts hold the sculpture just at the water level, giving its intertwined stainless steel rings the appearance of dancing on the surface.

Physics professor Frances Hellman was so taken with the Mining Circle sculpture that she and her husband, engineer and artist Warren Breslau, made a gift of it to the Berkeley Art Museum/Pacific Film Archive.

We have public art, but not enough of it, said Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost George Breslauer in formally accepting the gift Monday. So much of what we do on a university campus is a matter of leading with our minds; art makes us lead with our feelings, and then ask: Why?

Breslauer announced that the sculpture was being dedicated to the late Donald Glaser, who joined Berkeleys physics department as a professor in 1959 and won the Nobel Prize for his advances in particle-physics research. Glasers widow, Lynn, was on hand for the ceremony. Beasley was close to Glaser, Breslauer said.

Beneath Yellowstone, a volcano that could wipe out U.S. - December 12, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Its the awe-inspiring pride of the United States and it harbors a deadly power that could kill us all.

Yellowstone National Park is pristine wilderness, full of scenic landscape and iconic hot-pools and geysers that attract tens of thousands of visitors every year.

But its what lies beneath that has scientists scurrying.

Weve long known that Yellowstone is merely the skin on top of a supervolcano a giant pool of magma sitting just under the Earths surface.

Exactly how giant has been the subject of much speculation.

    Until now.

A team from the University of Utah have told the American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting in San Francisco that Yellowstones magama chamber is 2.5 times larger than previously thought.

It is an underground cavern measuring some 55 miles by 20 miles and containing between 125 and 185 billion cubic miles of molten rock.

If it blows it will wipe out America and have enormous impacts on the rest of the world.

The university researchers described their discovery as astounding.

By selecting the rights plants in the landscape near your swimming pool, you will assure safety for pool users and minimize pool maintenance. Here are some tips.

Consider container plants, which are easy to tend, replace and rearrange. One additional advantage: Frost-sensitive container plants can be moved indoors for the winter and brought outdoors again the next spring.

Plant trees and shrubs that won't hang over the pool because nearly every variety will drop something into it - leaves, petals, pollen.

Forgo plants with destructive roots. Mulberries and cottonwoods are taboo for this reason.

Move the messier plants so the tips of their branches are at least 8 feet from the pool.

Note that shorter plants' leaves and flower petals are less likely to get caught by the wind and be blown into the pool. Options include ornamental grasses such as ophiopogon, liriope and maiden grass and small shrubs such as 'Harbour Dwarf' nandina and dwarf yaupon holly.

Choose trees and shrubs (maples, forsythia, etc.) that drop their leaves in a short period and you can do one cleanup. Crape myrtles are a poor choice because their flowers fall for months (staining the sidewalks) and their leaves drop in fall, too. Droppings from fruit trees are also a problem.

Swimming Pool Landscaping – Landscaping Ideas – Landscape … - November 29, 2013 by Mr HomeBuilder

Swimming pool landscaping requirements share certain goals with other areas of your landscape design, but there's an important difference in emphasis. As with other areas of the yard, you want a "poolscape" to be safe, private and low-maintenance. But the significance of each of these goals is accentuated by the poolscape's unique nature.

Landscaping Around Swimming Pools Swimming pool landscaping is a challenge, because so many factors come into play. Swimming pool landscaping should provide beauty, yes. But more practical considerations start with safety and convenience. To screen out prying eyes, you'll also want your poolscape to offer privacy.

Pool Decks, Decking Around Spas What choices do you have in materials for building pool decks? Well, that depends on the swimming pool. Do you have an above-ground pool? Then, typically, your building material for a deck will be wood. For in-ground structures you have more options: pavers, concrete and stone.

Swimming Pool Safety Swimming pools can provide hours of backyard fun but can also be dangerous. Lisa Hallett Taylor, About's Guide to Pool and Patio, illustrates the "7 layers of protection" to employ to ward off disaster in this pictorial tutorial. Remember, the watchword for swimming pool landscaping is "safety."

Backyard Swimming Pool Project, Step by Step Lisa Hallett Taylor invites you to follow along with her as she presents the various steps involved in constructing a new swimming pool. About's Pool and Patio Guide takes you from excavating the pit to the glorious end result.
