Second Central Va. school system reports spoiled Marva Maid milk - June 10, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. A second Central Virginia school system has suspended the sale of Marva Maid milk after finding spoiled milk.

The Director for School Food and Nutrition Services in Prince William County, Virginia sent a letter to parents on Monday stating they first reported isolated cases of spoilage to Marva Maid on May 23.

On May 29, Henrico County schools reported four students at the an elementary school reported nausea after drinking spoiled milk supplied by Marva Maid in Newport News.

The dairys management team immediately investigated the complaint and determined that the milk in question had spoiled two days earlier than expected, the company later said in a statement.

Accordingly, Marva Maid notified customers on Thursday May 29, that it was voluntarily withdrawing all -pints with a May 30 expiration date.

Then the company announced late Friday that it withdrawing all -pints with expiration dates from May 30 through June 2 out of an abundance of caution.

State health officials provided an update Tuesday afternoon on their investigation into recent milk-related illnesses in public schools.

Testing on the milk from the Henrico County and Prince William County incidents found elevated levels of bacteria consistent with milk that spoiled prematurely, Virginia Department of Health officials wrote in a news release.

Trump said the health department began to investigate after receiving a complaint from Henrico schools on May 28. The agency said they were later made aware of another incident in Prince William County.

Officials said they are examining everything from production to storage to distribution in their ongoing investigation.

State milk investigation grows; Albemarle County supply possibly linked - June 10, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

ALBEMARLE, Va. Albemarle County schools pulled Marva Maid milk from their shelves Wednesday, after deeming the milk had spoiled.

CBS 6 confirmed the Virginia State Health Department is investigating the supply to determine whether or not it is connected to spoiled milk cases from Henrico and Prince William Counties.

It is unclear whether or not the Albemarle County milk will impact the Marva Maid recall. Currently, a voluntary recall is in place for milk with expiration dates between May 30th and June 2nd.

The expiration dates for Albemarle County fall outside that range.

The Virginia Health Department announced Tuesday Marva Maid Milk did test positive for higher levels of bacteria that results in premature spoilage.

We will include it in our investigation, Julie Henderson, Director of the Division of Food and General Environmental Services for the Department of Health, said.

I think we should remind people to trust their nose, Henderson added.

CBS 6 wanted to know whether or not Marva Maid should have informed the state about spoiled milk reports from Prince William County.

Prince William reported spoiled milk to the company on May 23, however the state did not find out about a potential milk issue until five days later, on May 28, when Henrico Schools informed the Health Department.

Henderson says Marva Maid was not required to report the Prince William incident to them because it is not considered an imminent danger.

Spoiled containers of milk being investigated in Prince William school cafeterias - June 3, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Prince William County cafeterias are not selling milk this week, after workers reported some spoiled containers of milk.

School officials notified Newport News-based Marva Maid Dairy about the spoiled half-pint containers of milk on May 23, according to a letter sent home to families on Monday. They initially thought it was an isolated incident but later learned about problems in Henrico County with the same supplier.

In Henrico, some students reported experiencing nausea-like symptoms after drinking milk that was later determined to be spoiled.

Amber Sheridan, a spokeswoman for Marva Maid, said the dairy is working with the state health department to figure out if there is a reason to explain the spoilage.

She said the company issued a voluntary recall for any half-pint containers that have a printed expiration date between May 30 and June 2.

In Prince William, students are being served juice instead of milk this week, as school nutrition and county health officials work together to investigate the issue.

We will continue this practice until we can be assured of the safety of the products delivered or, if necessary, until alternate supplies can be obtained, Serena Suthers, director of School Food and Nutrition Services, said in the letter.

Suthers said parents should feel free to pack milk for their children to drink at lunch.

New Provider Delivers Milk to Henrico Schools Monday - June 2, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) - Milk deliveries resumed at Henrico schools Monday morning, after Henrico County school officials announced Sunday night that a new source would provide milk to some schools.

Henrico School Nutrition Services says they've made arrangements with a new provider. Schools that have the highest demand for milk services during breakfast and lunch will be getting milk.

They hope to have milk delivered to all 72 schools and program centers by the end of the week.

This all started this past Wednesday after students started feeling sick at school. It was later confirmed the cartons of Marva Maid milk had spoiled before the expiration date.

It was on Wednesday afternoon that we had four kids at an elementary school who complained of illnesses, had nausea-like symptoms, said Andy Jenks, HCPS director of communications and public relations. It became apparent shortly after that that there was a funny smell and taste to the milk.

After the four initial complaints, 10 more were made to the Henrico County Health Department. The agency began investigating immediately.

I know that we havent identified any storage issues at the Henrico County Public Schools said Health Director Susan Fischer Davis.

Marva Maid Dairys internal investigation, however, did turn up something. The company tested the milk from that date of production in its lab and found it had spoiled. A spokesperson for the company also said a valve issue at a Norfolk processing plant had taken place the day the milk in question was put into cartons, and that this could increase bacteria growth in the product. Marva Maid Dairy didnt feel it was a big enough issue to recall the milk.

In a written statement, Marva Maid Dary said: A number of factors can contribute to milk spoiling before its expiration date. The most common cause is lack of proper refrigeration, which puts added stress on milk and makes it more perishable.

MANILA (Mindanao Examiner / June 2, 2014) - The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration has suspended a recruitment agency for allegedly issuing two sets of different working visas to a Filipina maid bound for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac said he ordered the preventive suspension of Chanceteam International Services, Inc. after stopping the woman - who was carrying visas for the position of sales staff and servant - from leaving the country.

He said this was discovered after the woman presented the two different visas at the pre-departure verification desk at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The woman admitted during an investigation that she was handed two visas by the recruitment agency. She told investigators that her agent directed her to present the visa bearing the sales staff at the airport and the servant visa to her employer in Dubai.

She said her agency instructed her to tell the POEA officers at the airport that the servant visa was obtained on her behalf by her cousin in Dubai, but she mistakenly presented all two visas to inspectors.

Cacdac said the recruitment agency committed serious violations. There was no immediate statement from Chanceteam International Services.
