Where does GW outspend competitors? Not in academics or research, but student services - March 31, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Media Credit: Samuel Klein | Photo Editor

The University spent about $4,200 per student in 2012 on services that included the nearly 200,000 square foot Lerner Health and Wellness.

Walk through Colonial Crossroads on the Marvin Center's fifth floor and youll pass dozens of cubicles belonging to the staff of GWs residential life office, career center and community service programs.

Across the street in Rice Hall, youll see a half-dozen offices for the dean of students staff, and a few blocks over, you'll find a two-story multicultural center, a freshly updated international student office and a pristine gym. Soon, brand-new health and counseling centers will move to H Street after a multimillion dollar renovation.

Its easy to notice GWs big spending on student programming and services, though administrators have remained tight-lipped about most costs. But recent data from the Department of Education reveals a glimpse of GWs overall spending on student life, which increased about 40 percent between 2006 and 2012.

The University spent about $4,200 per student on services that included 4-Ride, Lerner Health and Wellness and Student Health Service in 2012, the latest data available.

Thats about $900 more than the average per-student spending at GWs 14 peer universities. Its the only category for which GW outspent those institutions, which include Northwestern, New York and Vanderbilt universities.

GW's spending on other areas like instruction, research and academic support have also seen double-digit increases over the last six years, but competitor schools still put much more money into those areas. For example, while GW spends $18,577 per student on instruction, its peers averaged $28,488 per student.

Dean of Student Affairs Peter Konwerski said the University has invested heavily to enrich students campus experiences, which is now an expectation for nearly all prospective students. He said the biggest cost is staff pay, which has become crucial to give students more personal attention and employ people experienced in higher education.

Students and parents are consumers and they're looking at the best value of their education, Konwerski said. We want to have a really compelling opportunity for students to come find their place, get support, be successful."

Maid contracts to address runaway issue - March 29, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

(MENAFN -Arab News) standard contracts for housemaids must address the issue of runaway workers said hattab al-enezi spokesman for the labor ministry.

'the runaway phenomenon (known in arabic as 'huroob') will be solved via this standard contract which will be signed by the two countries" said al-enezi. 'in addition any assault on employers is a criminal act that is punishable by the kingdom's laws."

al-enezi pointed out that the labor ministry website had introduced a domestic labor program called 'musaned" (arabic for support) which aims to familiarize both workers and employers with their rights and obligations.

the website highlights the privileges that domestic workers are entitled to including health care contract renewal paid sick leave and days off.

the program will also provide information on service providers such as recruitment offices.

the agreements signed by labor-exporting countries with the kingdom take into account the best interests of both employer and employee said al-enezi.

'workers should not refuse tasks without legitimate reason in accordance with article 6 of the domestic workers' labor law" he said. 'workers must also maintain respect of their employer and his family members in addition to respecting islam and the laws and regulations of the country."

the terms of the agreement span five years and can be extended automatically for the same period he said.

recruitment offices in the kingdom however are incurring huge losses due to the imbalance in the content of the agreement and the 'musaned" program.

yahya al-maqboul chairman of the recruitment offices committee at the jeddah chamber of commerce and industry said that workers and investors in the recruitment sector are facing challenges in light of these new rules which has affected their income.

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) March 27, 2014

Husband and wife team Kyle and Tania Price recently invested in Maid Right, a leading residential cleaning franchise, and are now open for business.Their plan is to use Maid Right as a vehicle to empower people who want to build their own residential cleaning unit franchises. They also plan on offering top-notch cleaning services to homeowners who are too busy with lifes demands to spend their free time cleaning their house.

Were trying to set up partnerships with people in our community who have business aspirations like ours, Tania says. Community support has always been important to us and continues even now that we are business owners ourselves.

For the past month, the Prices have campaigned across the Charlotte area seeking those who want to be their own boss and achieve financial freedom. They have paired with Charlottes Spanish language newspapers and radio stations as well as other community newspapers and inspiration stations to help spread the word.

The Prices believe that establishing a strong community presence will not only enhance Maid Rights brand, but it will also help create growth in Charlottes small business sector. Maid Right allows Kyle and Tania to share their years of corporate business experience with others. Kyle and Tanias goal for 2014 is for Maid Right to become a top-tier service provider and add unit franchisees to their team. If we do that the right way, we have the potential to be around for a long time, Tania says.

MaidPro Continues Winning Streak with Top Franchisee Satisfaction Rank - March 28, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Boston, MA (PRWEB) March 25, 2014

MaidPro has, once again, bested its competitors by being the only maid services franchise to be named to Franchise Business Reviews annual top 50 ranking for 2014. MaidPro earns the highest ranking of any maid service overall in a comparative ranking that considers direct survey input from nearly 26,000 franchisees across 350+ brands for the second consecutive year. The results were announced recently at the International Franchise Associations 54th Annual Convention in New Orleans.

MaidPro also earned a call-out in FBRs Top Franchises 2014 Report for its recent introduction of a lower cost franchising option the MaidPro Select Model for entrepreneurs with less than $50,000 to invest. Generally speaking, we find lower-cost concepts tend to score a little better on the quality of life areas of our survey, FBR noted. MaidPros Vice President of Planning and Development Chuck Lynch said: Weve seen that lowering the minimum investment and offering additional financing has really helped potential franchisees to start a cleaning business, when in the past they would not have been able to do so.

For big trends, FBR noted that, By all accounts, 2014 is a great time to buy a franchise. Many franchise companies are coming off of their best years since 2007, franchise operators are seeing increased profitability and many economic experts have forecasted a much-improved economy.

To be named at all in FBRs annual Top Franchises Report, brands must score above a minimum benchmark for franchisee satisfaction, which is measured comprehensively across 33 different metrics, ranging everywhere from financial opportunity to the perceived honesty and integrity of franchisor. The higher the score, the higher rank.

One of the best ways to know if a franchise opportunity is really as good as it appears is to look at the companys franchisee satisfaction data, said FBR. Not all brands survey their franchisees, but those who do offer a wealth of information on the systems leadership, culture, training and support, financial outlook and franchise community.

We love winning in our industry and earning consistently high scores among the many hundreds of franchise opportunities available, said Lynch. But the real reason we participate every year in FBRs franchisee satisfaction survey is to gain objective insights into how we are performing and to give our franchisees opportunities to provide 100% open and honest feedback to us through a third party. We are a fast-growing brand, but do not want to grow at the expense of the things that have made us successful our personalized support and continuous investments in brand building, processes and systems that give our franchisees a competitive advantage. FBRs annual satisfaction survey helps us to gauge whether or not we are continuing to achieve that desired balance between growth and successful, happy franchisees.

'Maids get stressed living and working 24 hours a day' - March 23, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The elderly woman spat at her regularly and in a fit of anger, the Myanmar maid retaliated and hit her.

The family found out about the assault on the elderly woman and reported it to the police.

The maid was jailed for four weeks as a result, said Ms Valli Pillai, a representative from foreign worker help group Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (Home).

Ms Valli, who has been a Home case management worker for five years, related the case which happened last year.

While such incidents are regrettable, observers said the case underscores the need for domestic maids to have more avenues to air their grievances.

Home's executive director Jolovan Wham told The New Paper: "Domestic workers get stressed out living and working together with Singaporean families 24 hours a day. Some also don't get salaries until they have finished paying back the loans to their agents back home.

"Others are also stressed because they are not getting enough days off," he added.

Psychologist Daniel Koh of Insights Mind Centre said a "combination of factors like different environment and cultures, and the stress from change" could trigger a breakdown.

He added: "We don't know if these maids already have any underlying issues. They usually don't have anybody to talk to at work and as with all things, there is only so much one person can take."

Ms Joanne Lee, director of maid agency JL Employment Services, said maid agencies here do their best to work with their foreign counterparts to screen the best available maids for work here.

    The rest is here:
