The Wood-Ridge Council has passed three resolutions concerning emergency mold remediation at borough hall.

On April 23, the council passed the resolutions that approve Slavco Construction, Inc. of Clifton on a quote of $14,195 for the remediation of mold, $7,950 for exterior faade waterproofing and $17,900 for the restoration of the impacted area in borough offices.

The borough engineer obtained emergency service certification to remedy the situation.

The council acted on the combined recommendations of Neglia Engineering, Borough Administrator Chris Eilert and Borough Attorney Paul Barbire.

"(The mold) was in borough hall around all of the windows," said Eilert. "It was as a result of water infiltration from Hurricane Sandy."

The waterproofing was a preventive measure to protect against mold in the future. The restoration process involved waterproofing and new stucco.

"There were marble panels on the front of the building where the rain penetrated," said Eilert.

"We removed the panels, waterproofed it and put stucco in the front of the building."

Borough hall in Wood-Ridge is located at 85 Humboldt St.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Hurricane relief wasnt the original goal for a foundation founded in the wake of 9/11.

But just as things changed on 9/11, life shifted gears once again last October for Frank Siller, chairman of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which was created to honor the fallen 9/11 firefighter, when superstorm Sandy hit.

As soon as Sandy hit, we knew what we had to do, Frank Siller told WCBS 880s Jim Smith.

Immediately, the foundation joined the relief effort, and that continues to this day.

Weve had 10,000 volunteers, 10,000 volunteers that come through our doors since Sandy hit, he said. We have given out over $10 worth of food and supplies.

That has gone from basic necessities to, now, six month later, construction assistance.

A different type of supplies, but right now its full of sheet rock and insulation because thats the next stage, he said.

The foundation is now capable of mold remediation in ten homes a day. the latest hurdle, Siller says in a long road to recovery.
