Airport Authority OKs loan to prepare office building site - February 13, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

A $750,000 loan will help the Allegheny County Airport Authority develop a new office building and hangars at the site of the old Greater Pittsburgh International Airport terminal.

The authority's board accepted the 20-year loan, with an interest rate of 3 percent annually, from the Commonwealth Financing Authority at its meeting today. The money will be used to relocate utilities and sewer lines and to remove the foundation of the old terminal in preparation for the redevelopment.

Randy Forister, the authority's senior director of development, said the infrastructure work probably will start in August and be finished sometime this fall. The work is expected to cost about $1 million. The authority previously had secured a $250,000 grant from the state to help cover the cost.

The 15-acre site, now part of the Airside Business Park, will be prepared for the construction of a single-story office building and three aircraft hangars. Mr. Forister said the actual construction is about a year away.

"Right now, there is interest in both," he said.

The old terminal was closed in 1992. It eventually was demolished to make way for the Airside Business Park.

Reinier de Graaf / OMA*AMO – SFU Dutch Design – Video - February 9, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

29-09-2011 02:52 After joining OMA in 1996 as project director for De Rotterdam, the largest building under construction in the Netherlands, Reinier de Graaf went on to become director of AMO, the think-tank for OMA. AMO was a response to the realization that clients were beginning to look to architects for things beyond the design of an entire building, there were things such as exhibit and identity design that the architects were also highly capable of doing while maintaining a view of the larger picture of a project. Reinier de Graaf's ability to work at varying scales has led to work for the European Union, both 'The Image of Europe' and 'Roadmap 2050: A Practical Guide to a Prosperous, Low-Carbon Europe'. He is currently involved with Rem Koolhaas (a founder of OMA) in the Strelka Institute in Moscow, Russia. The post-graduate institute is dedicated to developing new perspectives on contemporary Russia by analyzing things like the thinning of cities and sustainable energy. House Construction Documentary – Video - February 9, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

23-09-2011 21:47 This project took me all summer. The house was just being started as school let out, and the house finished up literally on the very last days before school started. I live about a half mile away (and about 200 feet lower) than this house, and I rode my bike up multiple times a day with my camera and tripod to get this footage. I went out of my way to make sure I got as much footage as possible. There were several things, like carpet, hardwood floors, driveway, grass, etc that I had to miss unfortunately, but the video still turned out awesome. This is just a small portion of all the footage. Special thanks to everyone who let me film them, I had a blast. There are some really awesome people in this video. I also thank the people at the McNaughton Homes office for giving me permission to do this. Next summer I plan on making another documentary like this, but better. If you have any suggestions, let me know 🙂

Frankfurt Messeturm, Hammering man, Frankfurt Messe HD, German Messe Frankfurt Trade Fair – Video - February 8, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

29-09-2011 04:34 _The Messeturm_ is a skyscraper in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Its name translates as "Fair Tower" ("fair" in the sense of "trade fair") in German. It is the second tallest building in Frankfurt, the second tallest building in Germany and the also the second tallest in the European Union. The Messeturm's ground floor area is just 1681 m2 (18090 sq ft). The Messeturm is directly located in the Frankfurt Trade Fair grounds. Helmut Jahn designed the Messeturm in the Postmodern architectural style. Used as an office building, the Messeturm is 257 metres (843 ft) tall and has 63 floors. It was the tallest building in Europe from its completion in 1991 until 1997 when it was overtaken by the Commerzbank Tower, also located in Frankfurt, and only two meters taller. The construction of the building's foundation set a world record for the longest continuous concrete pour. Ninety trucks poured concrete for 78 hours into the 6-metre (20 ft) deep foundation. The 36.3 metres (119.1 ft) high pyramid on the very top of the Messeturm is what makes it most remarkable among other usual skyscrapers.wikipedia. __Frankfurt Messe__ important fairs include: the Frankfurt Book Fair and the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, the world's largest book and auto shows, respectively. the Light+Building the tendence - lifestyle the Ambiente the Heimtextil the Paperworld the Musikmesse the EuroMold the ISH the Automechanika, leading international trade fair for the automotive industry the Texcare ...

Life-Size Lego Set Creates Entire Economies - February 8, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

22-10-2011 15:39 Its an open hardware, open source, life-size Lego set that can create entire economies, whether in rural Missouri, where the project was founded, or in the developing world. Open Source Ecology is a network of farmers, engineers, and supporters building the Global Village Construction Set - a modular, DIY, low-cost, open source, high-performance platform that allows for the easy fabrication of the 50 different industrial machines that it takes to build a small, sustainable civilization with modern comforts. So Far we've prototyped 8 of the 50 Machines and we've been expanding rapidly. We are 100% crowd-funded. We have 400 True Fans that support our work monthly. FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR - MARCIN JAKUBOWSKI GET INVOLVED DIRECTLY: http://www.kickstarter.com opensourceecology.org opensourceecology.org vimeo.com Why should I help fund this project? This Kickstarter push is aimed at the full testing, publishing, and deployment of the construction toolkit - the Tractor, Compressed Earth Brick Press, Soil Pulverizer, and Hydraulic Power Unit. This toolkit will establish a new high benchmark of efficiency for green, low-cost housing construction - making natural building FAST and CHEAP, rather than SLOW and EXPENSIVE. During field testing, we aim to demonstrate $5 per sq. foot building costs, while staying within industry standard construction schedules. The library of instructional material that we produce will make replication a straightforward task. A first time fabricator with 3 days of ...
