Two teenagers were arrested Thursday on suspicion of trailing UPS delivery trucks and stealing packages from the front porches of homes in Burbank, police said.

Police were called to Kenneth and Delaware roads at about 2:45 p.m. after a caller noticed a Volkswagen Jetta following a UPS truck. Officers located the two suspects Ararat Gevondyan, 19, and a 16-year-old from Tujunga, who was not identified because hes a minor on Sixth Street and Cambridge Drive.

Cardboard boxes with shipping labels were discovered inside the car and scattered throughout nearby streets, police said.

The teenagers were allegedly stealing the packages after they were delivered by UPS, said Burbank Police Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

Police urge residents to be cognizant of packages being mailed home and to plan ahead.

A step in preventing mail theft is to have your neighbors, ones that you trust, gather packages that are delivered while you are away, Burbank Officer Joshua Kendrick said in a statement. Gevondyan is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail and is due in court next month. The minor was released pending a court date that had yet to be scheduled.
