Northern Virginias Top Remodeling Company Announces the Launch of the Inside Guide - November 26, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Chantilly, VA (PRWEB) November 25, 2014

Moss Building & Design is an award-winning residential remodeling company that has been serving the Northern Virginia area for over a decade. With superior customer care and exquisite remodeling, Moss is a strong leader of the home improvement industry in Fairfax, Arlington, and Loudoun counties.

As a way to further provide quality and great service, Moss is proud to announce the launch of their Inside Guide to Northern VA homeowners. The Inside Guide is a unique, educational opportunity for potential customers. The Inside Guide takes the form of a one-on-one call with a Sales Consultant where homeowners can address questions that are the most pertinent to them whether its budget or the remodeling process. While Moss still offers their free in-home consultations, the Inside Guide is for any client who wants more information whether general questions about remodeling or specific details of their project.

As a trusted Northern VA remodeler, Moss has taken on a role as advocate to clients and homeowners who consult them. Moss knows very well that the remodeling industry as a whole makes clients cautious which can come from negative past experiences. The remodeling industry can also feel mysterious to homeowners, and the Inside Guide is a way for Moss to steer customers through the process and provide them information in a timely and transparent manner.

Co-owner, Jason Hampel sees Moss new approach as another way to meet clients where they are in the remodeling process. The Inside Guide really started as a way for us to give our clients great advice in a setting similar to that of a friend. The remodeling industry can be difficult to maneuver and by giving homeowners advice that is helpful to their home and family, we help them make the best decision for them on their timeline.

DEAR TIM: Im just starting to get into building and remodeling as a do-it-yourselfer. Now that Im using a tape measure, Im having some difficulty. Perhaps I should have paid more attention in math class. Can you tell me about the markings on tape measures, what they mean and about all the special markings? Also, every tape measure I have and see in the store seems to be defective. The hook on the end is loose on all the tapes. What other tips do you have about using tape measures? Craig S.,Billings

DEAR CRAIG: Ive got some sobering news for you. As you delve deeper into building and remodeling, youre going to really regret not paying more attention in all your math classes, especially geometry. But if you have the passion to build and remodel, youll get up on the math learning curve veryfast.

In the past few years, Ive seen more improvements in tape measures than Id seen in the previous 35! Its hard to believe you could improve a tape measure, but a few companies have really done an amazingjob.

Most tape measures have black lines perpendicular to the edge of the tape measure in between each of the inch markings. These lines are different lengths to help you differentiate betweenthem.

The longest of these black lines indicates the half-inchmark.

The next-longest lines on the edge are the quarter-inch markings. The longer half-inch mark overlaps one of these three markings between each of the primary inch marks. If you count the quarter-inch markings, including the half-inch mark, youll count four between each inch mark. Thus, these markings divide 1 inch of length into four equal parts, each one-quarter inchlong.

Remodeling costs are wildly variable; Houzz crowdsources some estimates - November 21, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

It's easier to estimate the cost of new construction than a remodel because it has fewer unknowns.

With a new house, you won't uncover concealed dry rot, twisted framing or a colony of yellow jackets, buzzing behind the lath. In a remodel, you just might.

That said, the home improvement site Houzz has compiled data from its community of users around the country to arrive at average costs for various remodels.

Houzz says, for example, the average cost to remodel a kitchen in Portland runs about $35,275. In Little Rock, Ark., it's $13,913.

For a whole house remodel in Portland, Houzz says the average runs about $221,999 -- a figure that still can buy an attractive house in this market.

As it happens, $221,999 is a little more than Eric and Gretta Marchek paid for a full remodel of their Multnomah Village home, described in Friday's Oregonian: Portlanders like the Marcheks find payoffs in their own houses

The Marcheks qualified for a rehabilitation loan, because they had built up some equity in their house and had improvement plans drawn up by an architect. In the end, Eric Marchek said, the family came out ahead by remodeling.

Understanding adverse blood vessel remodeling following stenting - November 18, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

    PUBLIC RELEASE DATE:

    17-Nov-2014

Contact: Corinne Williams press_releases@the-jci.org 919-684-0620 Journal of Clinical Investigation @jclinicalinvest

Atherosclerosis is a leading cause of heart attacks and stroke. The narrowing of blood vessels that is caused by atherosclerosis can be treated with angioplasty or stenting to improve blood flow. However, the stenting process induces deleterious remodeling of the blood vessel that can increase thrombosis risk, limiting the use of this strategy. In an article published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, a research team led by Ziad Ali of the Columbia University Medical Center now provides new insights into the pathological remodeling that occurs following blood vessel stenting. In patients, they show that a gene network regulated by the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase-1 (GPX1) was downregulated in atherosclerotic plaques and a gene variant in the receptor tyrosine kinase ROS1 was associated with adverse effects of stenting. In a mouse model, loss of the antioxidant GPX1 promoted both oxidative and reductive stress, which in turn led to elevated ROS1 activity. Their study suggests ROS1 merits further exploration as a therapeutic target to improve the treatment of flow-limiting atherosclerosis.
