G.E.M. Unveils New EuroLite Shake Recycled Rubber Roofing Product - March 29, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

G.E.M. Inc., the manufacturer of Euroshield recycled rubber roofing products is pleased to announce the launch of its new EuroLite Shake profile. Coming on the heels of the highly successful launch (June 2011) of EuroLite Slate, EuroLite Shake is designed to replicate the look of traditional wood roofing, without the issues surrounding the use of wood. The product is a thinner and lighter version of our popular EuroShake(R), but at a much lower price point, typically between asphalt shingles and other premium slate, wood, metal and synthetic material offerings. Euroshield products contain a minimum of 70% recycled materials.

EuroLite Shake is the latest profile in the new line and features a "modified open keyway" design that creates an authentic looking appearance in an easy to handle panelized form. The panels measure 40" wide by 17" high with a 7 5/8" exposure to-the-weather and incorporate 6 "shake-like" sections of varying widths. Installation is similar to asphalt shingles, fastened using standard roofing nails (hammer or air-nail) and an adhesive strip along the underside of the butt edge. Coming in at approximately 2.2lbs per square foot, it is one of the lightest roofing products on the market today and yet it retains the durability and longevity associated with Euroshield(R) roofing products. EuroLite Shake, like all Euroshield products, comes with a transferable lifetime warranty, non-prorated for the first 50 years.

At 2.12 square feet (to-the-weather) per panel, a unique "panel guide" (eliminates the need to snap a chalk line each course), adjustable pitch hip/ridge caps, valley/rake/eave starter strips and 3 bundles per "square", EuroLite Shake has the potential to install faster than asphalt shingles. It can be easily cut with a utility blade.

Roofing company moves into N. Colony Road location - March 29, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

WALLINGFORD A South Windsor roofing supplier has moved its operation into the former home of Kamco Supply Corp. at 780 N. Colony Road.

Allied Building Products Corp. recently leased 86,036 square feet from Slomkowski Family Realty LLC.

Allied, a roofing and sheet metal fabrication business founded in Jersey City, N.J., in 1950, moved into the former Kamco space last week.

Kamco merged its warehouse and milling operation out of Wallingford into its East Hartford and Orange plants when the residential and commercial building industry tanked in 2009. It kept about 10,000 square feet of office and administrative space on Route 5.

But the vacant, 125,000-square-foot industrial building served as a bleak reminder of the flailing construction industry until Allied moved in about a week ago.

Thats a substantial amount of square footage, said Doreen DeSarro, business recruiter for the town of Wallingford. Were glad theyre here.

Kamco moved its executive offices in January into a new corporate headquarters at 2 Barnes Industrial Road South in January.

Im pleased they are keeping their corporate offices here, DeSarro said.

Jay Sheehy, president of Kamco and Slomkowskis partner, said Kamco wanted to stay in town and Allied was relocating its South Windsor operation.

Wallingford is a wonderful place to do business, Sheehy said.

Springs roofer admits forgeries - March 28, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

A Colorado Springs roofing company has paid a $110,000 settlement after allegations that it forged warranties on more than a dozen Air Force Academy roofs in 2007.

Central States Roofing is the oldest commercial roofing company in Colorado Springs, according to its website, and boasts clients such as the World Arena and the Colorado Springs Airport.

The companys owner, Bill Hauschildt, admitted he had forged the warranties and apologized for his actions.

It was me that did it and what I did was wrong and Im paying the price for it and making everything right, he said in an interview with the Gazette Monday. We settled everything and everyone is happy now.

He said he is currently taking an ethics class which will help teach me from not doing that.

According to a complaint filed in federal court on April 18, 2011,Hauschildt originally told investigators that the warranties had been forged by a project manager who he had since fired. The company faced fines up to $10,000 for each warranty that had been forged, according to the complaint.

Central States Roofing received a government contract in 2007 to install roofing systems in more than a dozen buildings on the Air Force Academy. To get final payment, the company had to submit manufacture warranties on the roof shingles, according to the complaint.

Rather than provide valid warranties, which Central States Roofing would have had to pay for, the suit alleges that Hauschildt instead downloaded forms from the internet and forged them to make them look like real warranties and presented the fakes to the academy for payment. The forgeries were discovered when another Air Force contractor contacted the shingles company that had supposedly issued the warranties and discovered that they were fakes.

According to its website, Central States was established in 1924 in the Pueblo area and later expanded into Colorado Springs, where it is now based.

Owens Corning Roofing and Asphalt Introduces Homeowners to Shingle Recycling Pledge Program - March 28, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

TOLEDO, Ohio, March 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Beginning today, Owens Corning (NYSE: OC - News), through its Roofing and Asphalt business, invites homeowners to take the Shingle Recycling Pledge as a way to show their commitment to keep old roofs out of landfills by working with roofing contractors who practice sustainable building practices.

"According to the Northeast Recycling Center, up to 10 million tons of recyclable shingles are removed from the roofs of U.S. homes and buildings annually," said Barry Hornbacher, Owens Corning Roofing and Asphalt Shingle Recycling program manager. "By pledging to work with professionals committed to recycling torn-off shingles into pavement, homeowners are helping to ensure their roofing renovation will have less of an environmental impact."

To take the pledge in markets where recycling is available, homeowners simply visit http://www.roofing.owenscorning.com and select "Recycle Now." In addition to connecting with local contractors committed to shingle recycling, everyone who takes the pledge will also receive a free reusable tote bag while supplies last. Homeowners who do not currently have shingle recycling available in their area can show their interest in shingle recycling by filling out a form on the website, which will help Owens Corning Roofing & Asphalt rally support from contractors in their local community. To learn more, simply visit the Sustainable Roofing page on the site.

Established in 2009, in alliance with Heritage Environmental Services and Earth911.com, the Owens Corning Roofing & Asphalt Shingle Recycling Program is currently active in 39 markets nationwide. Since its inception, the program has recycled more than 95,000 tons of asphalt shingles at the Heritage affiliate locations, the equivalent of saving 95,000 barrels of oil.

"Today's homeowners are more involved than ever in selecting the materials and building processes used on their home, with a greater emphasis on sustainable solutions," said Hornbacher. "By taking the Shingle Recycling Pledge, homeowners will gain a better understanding about the positive impact recycling shingles has on the environment and learn how they can become more involved in the process in their local community. Homeowners looking for green roofing solutions can now choose recycling to achieve definitive results."

Through a change to Owens Corning Roofing & Asphalt's website, homeowners can search for reputable contractors in their area that already participate in the program. Homeowners can also use the site to connect contractors not already involved in the Shingle Recycling Program with a conveniently located recycling facility by selecting "Help Green this Contractor." Additionally, the site features an informational video about shingle recycling, educational resources and tools to help homeowners choose the best roof for their needs and budget once they're ready to replace their roof.

"Owens Corning Roofing & Asphalt is dedicated to providing homeowners with high quality, beautiful roofs, but we are also just as dedicated to keeping as many old shingles out of landfills as possible," said Hornbacher. "We will continue to work with homeowners and contractors to further our commitment to reduce waste and save energy."

Gulf Coast Supply & Manufacturing Joins Roofing Industry in Making ‘Sustainability’ a Key Goal for the Future - March 22, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

Februarys International Roofing Expo (IRE) in Orlando raised the sustainability standard for the best and the brightest in the industry, an emphasis that fits right in with the energy-efficient and eco-friendly goals of Gulf Coast Supply & Manufacturing, LLC, (http://www.GulfCoastSupply.com), a leading producer of quality metal roofing in the Southeast since 1996.

Tifton, GA (PRWEB) March 22, 2012

"Sustainable products are a fast-growing segment of the roofing industry," said Lindsay Roberts, Director of the IRE, adding that the pavilion was designed to feature a collection of products and services to help roofing professionals meet the growing demand for sustainability in their operations.

Gulf Coast Supplys newest product line, OceanGuard, fits right in with that goal.

OceanGuard is attractive, durable and energy-efficient, says Ray Bowen, Gulf Coast Supplys Director of Sales and Corporate Development, who has been with the company for 12 years

Bowen notes that OceanGuard, which has a 25-year anti-corrosion warranty, requires no specific setback requirement regarding distance from breaking surf or salt-water shoreline. Plus, OceanGuards coating is Kynar 500, known for its color retention as well as its resistance to corrosion

In addition, as far as sustainability is concerned, Bowen described OceanGuard as environmentally conscious because its 100 percent recyclable, as well as being made from partially recycled material. Bowen added that the new GCS product is cost-effective, long-lasting and has a high wind rating.

Little wonder, then why Gulf Coast Supply has been the metal roofing manufacturer of choice since 1996 for architects, contractors and homeowners throughout Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and the Caribbean.

Last year, the company introduced a revised logo and opened two new facilities. The new logo and locations come at a time when some other companies have been forced to cut back because of a tough economy.

For 16 years, customers across the Southeast have trusted Gulf Coast Supply in Horseshoe Beach as a manufacturer of premium quality metal roofing, said GCS Vice President Jonathan Sherrill. My dad and uncle built Gulf Coast Supply from scratch based on principles of honesty, customer appreciation, premium products and fair prices. These values are in full display in our new locations in Stuart and Alachua.

Roofing scam suspect arrested in Florida - March 22, 2012 by Mr HomeBuilder

A Gainesville man, Joshua Michael Bell, wanted by felony warrants issued by Sherman Police Department and others by Cooke County Sheriffs Office, has been arrested in Florida, and is being held there to be returned to Grayson County Jail.

Bell was one of two men identified as a suspect in a roofing scam that bilked at least two Sherman elderly women of several thousand dollars earlier this year. Sherman police Detectives Rob Ballew and John Phares had been working the case for weeks and obtained the arrest warrants. They learned that Cooke County S.O. investigators also had similar investigations going on, and the two agencies paired up in the investigations. Sgt. Bruce Dawsey said that joining the efforts since have been the U.S. Marshal Service and the Joint North Texas Fugitive Task Force.

Bell was arrested at a motel in Lantana, Palm Beach County, Florida, by Lantana police. He currently is in the Palm Beach (Florida) County Jail, awaiting arraignment as of Wednesday afternoon. Dawsey said he has no information yet on whether the suspect has been presented with or signed waiver of extradition, or whether he will fight being returned to Texas. In that case, a Texas Governors warrant will be sought for Bells return, and that could postpone his return for weeks.

Two Sherman victims identified Bell in photo line-ups, police said earlier, and another man is yet unidentified. The court documents used to obtain the arrest warrants described the scams as being almost identical in nature.

Two men would go to the door of an elderly person and represent themselves as being with a roofing company, named in the documents. One man told them, the documents stated, that the warranty on their roofs were about to expire and he was there to check the roof for needed repairs. Then, the documents continue, he would tell them there was a need for repairs, that they would do the repairs, and that the victim would only be responsible for labor costs.

In one incident, the resident paid one man $2,350 cash on a $4,800 bill. The next day, he returned, the documents continued, and threatened to repossess her home if she didnt pay him the balance. The victim took out loans and gave him another $1,000.

Then, a few days later, she received a call from a man proclaiming to be a Sherman police detective who stated, according to the documents, that they were conducting a sting to catch the roofing scam artist. She was to pay him more money, and after he received it, the police would arrest him and return her money. She gave Bell more money, but no police and no arrest. She learned she had been scammed when she called the police station with questions.

A couple of weeks later, two men appeared before another resident with the same story, and stole about $1,200 from her on the original visit and another $2,800 in part two of the scam, the bogus police sting. She, too, called police after realizing she had been deceived. She even had receipts that the person she identified as Bell had given her for the cash.

The three warrants obtained charge Bell with theft between $1,500-$20,000 and with theft of property between $500-$1,500. Dawsey said earlier that Cooke County also has a warrant charging him with theft of a firearm. He also said that the police department have information that there are warrants in place against Bell issued in Louisiana.

Texas Department of Corrections spokesman Jason Clark said that the Texas Board of Pardons & Paroles issued a parole violation warrant for Bells arrest on Feb. 15, after a previous Florida arrest on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.
