In 2007 a tornado hit my house and received some damage to the vinyl siding. While not extensive it was enough that I knew I would get mold if I did not fix the issues. So I called my builder to get the company that installed my siding and the lot number of the siding. I then called the installer to get a quote about how much it would cost to fix my siding. To my dismay the installer informs me that the siding company has gone out of business and the color is no longer available. I am then left with only two options: 1) replace the entire siding on my house, or 2) fix the siding on the side of the house.
I called the insurance company to get an estimator out to look at it but was informed that since the storm was 3 years ago I no longer qualify for the insurance to replace the siding. This seemed a bit unfair to me since they were the ones that missed the damage to begin with and now I am facing a huge bill. So I repaired the siding and did my best to make it look like the original color. This was a very frustrating process and I am stuck with repaired siding and it is only a short matter of time before I need to replace the whole thing.
I decided that I need to better inform people about siding choices, prices, insurance process and repair techniques so that they so not have to go through the same aggravating process.
