Giroud Tree and Lawn, a Locally Owned and Huntingdon Valley PA Based Tree Service and Lawn Care Company, Celebrates … - March 6, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Huntingdon Valley, PA (PRWEB) March 06, 2014

Back in 1974 when the average house cost $10,990, a gallon of gas was only .55 cents and Jimmy Fallon was just born, Lou Giroud, founder of Giroud Tree and Lawn, was 18 years old and starting up a lawn service company in Huntingdon Valley PA. Now celebrating its 40th Anniversary, Giroud Tree and Lawn has earned awards from consumer groups like Angies List for providing outstanding tree service and lawn care services to homeowners and businesses in Montgomery County, Bucks County and Philadelphia PA.

Originally known as "Lous Lawn Care", the Company was officially launched in March 1974. Operating out my parents' garage, Giroud Tree and Lawn started small, serving customers in the local neighborhood, says Lou Giroud, Founder, President and ISA Certified Arborist. From the beginning, the Companys mission has been to make customers love doing business with Giroud. Its a simple idea that guides how we handle everything from a customers first call until after the job is done.

Fast forward to 2014 and travel up the road just a few miles from its original garage. Giroud Tree and Lawn has grown from a single employee serving customers from a 1956 Dodge pick-up to 38 employees, 22 trucks and a variety of specialty equipment, all housed at its headquarters in Huntingdon Valley PA.

Giroud is also very much a family business. While Lou Girouds sons, Jeff and Matt, are in training to learn the business from the ground up, the Founders wife, Cindy Giroud, is the companys Director of Marketing. Additionally, Vice President, brother in law and ISA Certified Arborist, Drew Slousky , a core part of the company since 1977 is joined by his wife and Lou Giroud's sister, Shelly Slousky, in office administration and his son, Scott Slousky, the companys In-house Arborist.

As the only tree and lawn company to win the Angie's List "Super Service Award" every year since the award began in 2005, clearly Lou Girouds founding mission of making customers love doing business with the Company is working! Garfield BOE will outsource for landscaping in school district - March 6, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Garfield Board of Education will start a bidding process for the district's landscaping, snow and tree removal.

Last month the resolution didn't have enough support to pass. Some board members said they needed more time to look into the resolution and to talk with the director of facilities.

The resolution recommended by the superintendent of schools and assistant superintendent of finance/board secretary, approved Edvocate's, a consulting company, services for managing the invitation for bid process of the district's landscape, snow and tree removal. The resolution is for $5,000 for the proposed services.

Business Administrator and Board Secretary Dr. Edward Izbicki said currently the work is being done in house by two custodians. Izbicki said after the meeting that it was a matter of the amount of work and how large the district's facilities are for two people to handle.

Board member Anthony Barckett said that after having further time to look at the resolution, this is for extraordinary circumstances like the winter and excess snow this season to get the schools clean.

Board member Richard Derrig, who voted against the resolution, said during the meeting that he finds it "disrespectful" to the members who voted against the resolution last meeting to put the resolution back on the agenda.

City of Sterling offers aid for dead tree removal - March 6, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Sterling home owners may qualify for help in removing dead trees from their property.

The city of Sterling's Dead Tree Removal program provides financial assistance to residential property owners for the removal of dead and dying elm trees from private property. Qualifying applicants will be reimbursed by the city of Sterling for one-half the cost of each tree removed, up to a maximum of $250 per tree. Property owners will not be reimbursed for sales tax or for any "secondary" work, such as removal and replacement of fences or repair of lawns or other incidental expenses.

Property owners must qualify on income level and they must reside at the address for which assistance is being requested. Commercial properties or rental units are not eligible.

To qualify for the program, homeowners must make a written application to the city's Department of Parks, Library and Recreation before the tree is removed. All trees will be inspected by the City and approval will be made on a case-by-case basis.

Financial assistance is not available for tree trimming or for the removal of healthy trees or stump removal. The program is designed to assist homeowners with the removal of trees which pose a threat of Dutch elm disease to the urban forest or a hazard to the public.

To receive an application and full details about the program, please contact the PLR Department at 421 N. Fourth St., Sterling, 970-522-9700.

$300K coming to help deal with trees on Belle Isle, across Detroit - March 6, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Nathan Skid / Crain's Detroit Business

Crain's reporter Tom Henderson illustrates the magnitude of the tree debris on Belle Isle. Some of the trees are more than 200 years old.

Detroit will see $300,000 from the U.S. Forest Service to help deal with dangerous trees on Belle Isle and across the city.

U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan today announced the grant, which will be used to remove dangerous trees on the island park and along city streets. The grant also will support a tree management, maintenance and restoration plan that will include replanting trees.

Stabenow's office said the Michigan Department of Natural Resources plans to work with groups such as the nonprofit The Greening of Detroit to coordinate, plan and implement tree restoration. The Greening of Detroit is starting a tree removal training program this spring.

Englewood council takes steps to protect trees - March 6, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

ENGLEWOOD With a desire to preserve trees and discourage resident clear-cutting their property, city leaders amended the law that regulations trees in the municipality.

City leaders approved new measures to regulate removing and planting trees on private property.

"We want to create a culture that says we value our tree," said Council President Lynne Algrant. "This ordinance is really helping us to do that."

The amended ordinance, approved unanimously at the Feb. 25 council meeting, requires a tree replacement plan seven days after emergency removals, increases the diameter of replacement trees from two-and-half inches to three-and-half inches, raises tree replacement fees, limits the number of trees residents can remove without a permit, and adds an appeal process.

Mayor Frank Huttle III said he experienced the ill effects of unregulated tree cutting a few years ago when a neighbor removed about 38 trees from their land, causing flooding issues on Huttle's property.

"This [ordinance] is something I'm very pleased has come to fruition," said Huttle. "It will protect every residence in Englewood."

Residents are now allowed take down two trees within a three-year time frame without a permit, when previously they could remove three trees per year.

While tree removal fees remained at $50, the amount of money residents must contribute to a tree fund in lieu of replacing trees increased from $200 to $250.

An appeal process if an applicant does not agree with the rejection or an application or conditions opposed by the city engineer was also added to the ordinance. The applicants would present the appeal to the City Manager Tim Dacey, "who at his discretion may request assistance from a representative of the Englewood Environmental Commission."
