Winterizing Your Home
Tips to winterize your home and prevent injury and property damage. The weather can take its toll on your home. And since for most people, its your single biggest investment, it pays to winterize it. Let #39;s start with your furnace. Get it professionally inspected to ensure that it #39;s running safely and efficiently. Fire places are great but their chimneys need to be properly cleaned. Also, make sure animals and birds cannot enter from the top. Doors and windows are notorious for heat loss. Inspect them for cracks, spaces and drafts and seal any that you find with caulking. A good quality roof and gutters are essential. Check and replace any shingles that are loose or old. Regularly remove leaves and debris from the gutters so that they don #39;t overflow. And trim back any overhanging branches. Pipes that burst due to freezing is one of the leading causes of home insurance claims in the winter. Keep them well insulated or drained if not in use.
