The Saddle Brook Board of Education approved the Dec. 9 ballot question to be voted on by residents for the $4.9 million referendum that will address repairs and renovations at all district schools.

As part of the School Development Authority grant program, the state will cover 40 percent of costs or approximately $1.6 million on a $4.1 million portion of the bonds. A $327,232 state grant will also offset some of the cost.

Last spring, district officials chose to remove many buildings and grounds projects from the 2014-2015 school budget and place them on a referendum in an effort to fund new programs in the district, including full-day kindergarten.

The district is looking to replace a portion of the roof at the middle/high school, renovate several bathrooms and the auditorium.

Improvements to the Franklin School include front window replacement, roof replacement and bathroom renovations. Smith School will receive a partial roof replacement, gymnasium window replacement and bathroom renovations.

The roof and windows will also be replaced at Long Memorial School. Washington School's bathrooms will be renovated.

All schools will receive security upgrades, including the installation of new cameras.

The BOE referendum committee will host several informational meetings next month at all district schools: Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at Franklin School, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. at Washington School, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. at Long Memorial, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Smith and Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at the high school.
