Decks have been cleared for admission of MBBS students to the Indira Gandhi Government Medical and Research Institute (IGGMCRI) with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday approving the recommendation of Medical Council of India(MCI) for renewal of approval for fifth batch admission.

In a recent meeting, the MCI decided in favour of IGGMCRI in recommending the college for fifth bath admission.

Last April, the Medical Council of India (MCI) had recommended to the Union government against granting approval to the State-owned IGGMCRI for student admissions. The MCI also cited the inadequate faculty as the main reason. Subsequently the IGGMCRI filled 60 posts of Associate Professor and Assistant Professor and sent a compliance report to the Union of Health Ministry.

While approval was pending with MCI, the Centralised Admission Committee had conducted the medical counselling for seats in IGGMCRI and other self-finance medical colleges.

Dr. Jayakumar, Convener of CENTAC said, Call letters will be despatched to students from tomorrow. Students are advised to approach the corresponding college. Last date for reporting to the college is July 21.
