RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) --

Large, colorful signs specific to each city-owned parking deck will be displayed in all drive entrances and pedestrian entrances to make it easier for customers to remember where they parked.

"With every new development that comes downtown or every new event that comes downtown, it can sometimes create new challenges for parking, so we are trying to be proactive," said city parking administrator Gordon Dash.

Drivers will receive a color-coded map with their parking ticket. The map also gives parking deck addresses so visitor can find their way back.

"It sounds like it's a good idea," said Raleigh resident Gabrielle Paige. "Especially, if you're talking, I might go to a different area maybe a completely different level especially if I park upstairs."

This weekend the city will keep tabs on the effectiveness of the new program. An online survey will be posted on the City of Raleigh's website to get drivers' feedback.

If enough people give it the green light, Dash said the new color scheme could become a permanent fixture in downtown.

"If they like the idea then maybe we can look down the road at making this a capital expense," said Dash. "Parking should really be a non-event for folks."
