TRENTON -- A Trenton man who was allegedly found with 1,500 decks of heroin faces drug charges following a month-long investigation into drug dealing in a section of the East Ward, police said Thursday.

Clyde Owens, 38, was arrested on drug possession and distribution charges on the 800 block of Greenwood Avenue around 9 a.m. Tuesday, Lt. Steven Varn said.

Trenton police detectives had been conducting surveillance in the area for more than a month leading to Owens arrest in a parking lot, following a brief chase and struggle, Varn said.

A car had pulled into a lot on Greenwood Avenue and the driver stayed in the running car when Owens approached. Officers pulled up to the car and Owens ran, leaving a trail of heroin packets behind, Varn said.

Owens was tackled to the ground and after a short struggle he was arrested, Varn said. Police found a total of 1,500 glassine packets of heroin on him, Varn said.

Police also raided a home on the 700 block of Indiana Avenue where Owens had lived and seized $8,650 in cash, Varn said.

Owens bail was set at $35,000, according to police records.
