Another big step to clean up the Magic City after the 2011 flood was taken today.

A finance committee meeting was held earlier requesting approval of a demolition contract.

The city plans to remove approximately 72 homes around the city of Minot destroyed by the flood.

Many of the homes are considered unlivable.

City officials plan to use some of the vacated land to add to the current levy system to prevent future flooding.

With demolition approved, the city can move forward with its plans to change the landscape of Minot.

(Cindy Hemphill, Finance Director, Minot) "It will get those homes removed, it will get those lots cleaned up and it will provide some continuity then in the neighborhoods so that people know that's going to be a vacant lot and or it may eventually be a footprint of the overall flood plan."

Hemphill hopes construction will begin as soon as possible, however no time table has been set.
