Demolition of the Indian Creek Valley Community Center in Saltlick is under way.

The center was destroyed by fire early in May.

The board of directors of the center are currently looking into options of what to do with the site.

It's in the process of being demolished now, said Scott Porterfield, a member of the board of directors, which owns the building.

The center, located at 628 Indian Creek Valley Road, was used for numerous community functions. It originally opened in 1953.

Demolition started a little over two weeks ago, said Porterfield. He said demolition is expected to continue for two more weeks.

After that, the future of the site will be up in the air.

We're talking as an organization to explore all our options, Porterfield said. Some options include discussing rebuilding and what kind of structure it could be as well what the building would be used if rebuilt.

We truly do not know or have decided on anything, said Porterfield.

Porterfield said it could take six months to a year for the committee to reach a decision on what can be done with the community center because with the winter season approaching within a few months, not much would be happening.
