Bulldozers and demolition teams are tearing down 18 Victory Road

Demolition work has started on a house where six children were killed in a blaze set by their parents Mick and Mairead Philpott.

Derby City Council said a bulldozer was on site demolishing 18 Victory Road. An adjoining property, number 20, has already been knocked down.

More housing will be built on the site following the work.

The Philpotts were jailed in April, along with friend Paul Mosley, after being convicted of manslaughter.

A council spokeswoman said the work would take about two weeks to complete.

Jade Philpott, 10, and her brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jesse, six, and Jayden, five, died in the blaze in May 2012. Duwayne, 13, died days later in hospital.

A court heard the fire was an attempt to incriminate Mick's former partner, who was disputing custody of children they had together.
