Senior citizens, the disabled and people with low or moderate incomes can get help with home repairs this summer through a program sponsored by River City Community Development Corp.

Every two years, River City CDC hosts a Group Work Camp that involves teenagers from across the country coming to Pasquotank County to participate in a week of home renovation and repair projects.

Eligible projects for the Work Camp include home interior and exterior paint jobs, drywall installation, porch repair, and skirting installation for mobile homes. The teen workers, who are supervised by adult leaders, can also can repair roofs, but projects are limited to 28 feet. Projects are generally limited to those that can be completed within four hours.

River City CDC hopes to have as many as 70 homeowners sign up for the service. As of Monday, 10 had. The nonprofit hopes to have at least 12 project participants by Dec. 31. The final deadline to apply is March 1. The work will be performed in June.
