LANCASTER - In a special, daytime meeting, selectmen allowed the producers of Netflix's "The Society" to move the gazebo.

On Monday, selectmen Walter Sendrowski and Jay Moody agreed to allow the structure to be returned to the spot it was during the first season of filming.

Joshua Gibbons, assistant location manager for the film company said shooting on the new season begins April 5 and continues through Aug. 5.

"We are coming back and using the Town Green will be a major location," Gibbons said.

The film company should be filming in and around the Town Green eight or nine times between those dates, working with Town Administrator Orlando Pacheco and assistant Kathy Rocco to work around difficult dates, such as election days.

Gibbons said the assistant director has not yet looked through the scripts to set dates for filming each episode, but the 12 episodes shoot eight days each, then two days off.

Historical Commission Chairman Heather Lennon tried to reopen the discussion of the permanent future of the gazebo on the Town Green, saying it was "not a structure befitting the Town Green," but the agenda only advertised a discussion on placement of the gazebo for filming. Other discussion will have to wait until it is on an agenda.

At last week's meeting, selectmen expressed reluctance to move the gazebo again. No such opposition was brought up by selectmen Monday.

The placement of the gazebo on the Town Green proved controversial and divisive last year. Netflix donated the gazebo to the town. Sendrowski said officials had contractors check out the gazebo. He said they asserted it was a proper structure, not just a prop, and should be able to stand up to the move. However, the film company will repair any damage, or replace it as needed.

According to officials, the film company paid the town $125,000 to film season one in Lancaster.
