Dear Tom, Sorry, but even the best homeowners policies don't cover damage caused by termites and other insects. Home insurance also doesn't cover damage done by raccoons, squirrels and other rodents. Nor does it cover destruction caused by birds, such as woodpecker damage to cedar siding.

But -- and not that this is any consolation -- if the termites chew through an electrical wire and a fire ensues, the resulting fire damage would be covered.

You will need to call pest control to deal with your termites. Be sure to buy the extended warranty on those services.
