An indoor market, double the number of lighted trees, and colorful projections of snowflakes on buildings and sidewalks will mark the holiday season in Downtown Crossing.

The pop-up market, held outside on Summer Street for the past six years, moves to the former Tellos on Washington Street and opens Nov. 29 with local artisans, farmers, food vendors and visiting hours with Santa.

We had an empty storefront space, and we thought wed do things a little bit different this year to make people more comfortable, said Rosemarie Sansone, president of the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District.

The BID is working with property owners and Port Lighting Systems, creator of L.L. Beans Northern Lights celebration in Maine, for the lighting of the nearly 150 trees and the first-time projections, which will stay illuminated throughout winter. Were giving people more reason to actually walk through the district, Sansone said.

Macys kicks off the season Friday at 5 p.m. with its annual tree-lighting festivities.
