Three years ago, Palm Beacher Sara McCann decided to get serious about the decorating business.

After several years decorating her own island homes, seven over time, and working on projects for friends and family members, she established McCann Design Group, opening a small office in West Palm Beach.

Joining her was friend and fellow decorator Donna Morris with Ellen Kavanaugh, a licensed interior designer added to the team a year and a half ago. Both are Palm Beach residents.

Soon, we were getting so many requests and referrals that I was convinced it was time to expand and also get into the retail business, McCann said, noting her previous background as a retailer.

We thought it was a good time to step it up, with the market on the rise and everyone very bullish about real estate in Palm Beach.

We also found that as we were finishing up projects, we couldnt find everything we were looking for. We wanted to be able to offer to clients and the public a range of things we like, whether it be a sofa or a scented candle.

And so, after a gut renovation of a 12,000-square-foot West Palm Beach warehouse, McCann Design Group moved into new offices in November and debuted Hive Home, Gift & Garden, a retail emporium and showroom at 424 Palm St.

Were open to the public and also serve as a trade resource for the local decorating trade, McCann said. Its all about one-stop shopping here at Hive.

They sell furniture, lighting, fabrics, decorative accessories, works of art, linens, gifts and stationery. We have everything here for a well-appointed home, except plumbing fixtures which we can, of course, order for you, McCann said.

Prices range from $20 to $12,000.
