Ashley Gilbreath, founder of the eponymous Montgomery, Alabama-based interior design firm, recently completed designing a vacation home for a multiple-Dove and GRAMMY award-winning musician who was looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the life of a musician.

As far as interior furnishings were concerned, the couple basically started from scratch. The client had a sofa and vintage barstools and chairs that came with the house when they bought it, Gilbreath said. Thats about it.

Finding inspiration from the idyllic setting was easy. Beginning with a neutral color scheme of crisp whites and sandy beiges, Gilbreath layered in beach-inspired tones of seafoam and aqua along with natural materials and textures to create a warm and comfortable vacation environment.

In the main living area consisting of the family room, kitchen, and dining room loosely upholstered furnishings provide comfortable seating while maintaining the casual air of the home. The fireplace, dressed in shells, becomes the focal point of the room. A natural-colored rug with stripes of pale blue and green anchors the main seating area. The sofa and lounge chairs are clad in brushed cotton slipcovers in natural and light green, accented with deep ocean blue and blue-and-green ikat-patterned pillows.

Recycled glass and woven rope accessories casually mingle on the shelves flanking the fireplace, while behind the sofa a whitewashed reclaimed wood console table is home to more shell accessories and a pair of vintage mercury glass table lamps.

Open weave linen draperies allow plenty of light to pour in while softly framing the picturesque view.

The theme continues in the kitchen with sandy blue Gascogne limestone countertops, a metallic blue-green backsplash, and a custom-made surfboard in reclaimed pine. The vintage barstools provide casual seating at the bar.

In the adjacent dining area, white, slipcovered wing back chairs and woven side chairs surround an antique trestle table for a casual but dedicated dining space.

An unfinished white birch headboard adds rustic warmth to the master bedroom. On either side of the bed, vintage mercury glass lamps and more ocean-inspired accessories sit atop metal and reclaimed wood desks that double as bedside tables. The master bath features a custom vanity crafted in lime-washed pine with countertop sink basins and a sconce from Circa lighting.
