SEA BRIGHT Sea Bright police headquarters will be evacuated for 30 to 60 days while remediation of black mold is underway in the building located at 1099 Ocean Ave.

There is nonairborne black mold that exists within the layers of the floor in the building, said Borough Administrator Joseph Verruni at the March 12 Sea Bright Borough Council workshop meeting.

Councilman C. Read Murphy said in an interview that because the mold is nonairborne, the process is not urgent, but officials want the remediation done as quickly as possible.

Some of it was visible on the walls of the building, and the township started looking into it about three weeks ago, he said on March 13.

Verruni said relocation expenses and remediation work could be paid for using several funding sources.

Itll be through flood insurance, through general liability insurance the borough has with the Monmouth County Joint Insurance Fund, or even through FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), depending on how much they decide is storm-related, said Verruni on March 17. So there are at least those three sources of funding. Maybe well apply for a rehabilitation grant, but thats not being contemplated right now.

Murphy said the police force has 12 officers and seven police vehicles. Special trailers will be rented to provide holdingcell space during the cleanup, he said.

There are some trailers that are equipped to have holding cells in them, he said. We have what they call holding cells [in the police building], so [anyone lodged in there] usually just gets cut loose or the county comes and gets them. Nobody stays there for extended periods of time.
