Any interior decorator will tell you, there's a fine line between blush and bashful. Unfortunately for Aio Wireless, the same can't be said of plum and magenta -- at least not in a court of law. T-Mobile announced today that a Federal Court in Texas has ordered the AT&T subsidiary to stop using a "plum color as a central part of its trade dress," as it is "confusingly similar" to its own trademark magenta.
According to court documents, T-Mobile claims the Plum in question, Pantone 676C, is so similar to its own Pantone Process Magenta that it "dilutes its strength and likely causes confusion among consumers." The court's preliminary injunction will prevent Aio from using large swaths of the offending plum color and "confusingly similar shades" in advertising, marketing and store design.
T-Mobile brought the suit against the pre-paid carrier, which is owned by its competitor AT&T, last summer, just months after its initial launch. While the difference between plum and magenta may be evident to most, court documents show that AT&T's branding company raised concerns about the shade during a vetting process that included focuses groups and extensive consideration of other carriers' color schemes.

Snow can be a bigger problem when it stays up than when it comes down.
Snow that stays on the roof can find ways to exploit flaws in flashing or seams in shingles, and it can build up enough that it creeps up from jammed gutters far enough to start dripping to the inside floors below.
Roof problems can emerge at a time when it is tough to do anything about them. Stop-gap repairs are possible, but the true solution to the problem might be months away.
Al Lambert of 3 Rivers Roofing in Washington County said he received 2,700 phone calls in the month after the 24-inch snow of 2010.
He eventually reached the point where he would address only emergencies.
Jeff Moeslein of Dormont's Legacy Remodeling said winter is a very difficult time. There are things we can do now, but you almost have to wait for spring.
Lambert and some of his crew recently were assessing a problem in an attic, but he said repairs likely will have to wait until the snow melts.
Tom Bollnow, senior director of technical services at the Illinois-based National Roofing Contractors Association, said the first thing he advises anyone with a roof problem is to stay on the ground.
It is tough for a professional to go up there, but it really is something for the homeowner to avoid, he said.

WATERLOO | It's a good time to be selling home heaters and insulation.
Another dose of snow and frigid temperatures may have hurt attendance at the Eastern Iowa Home and Landscaping Show on Saturday in the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center. But Eric Weber was keeping warm in front of a row of toasty fireplaces at the Fireplace Creations booth.
"It seems like (attendance) is down a little bit," Weber said. "I don't know if that's due to the weather or something else. It's been steady though."
In the next booth, Dennis Kayser also said the unusually cold winter wasn't hurting his business, Arctic Seal Urethane Insulation Systems of Jesup.
"The colder it gets the more business we do," said Kayser, who insulates quite a few exterior home foundations to keep out the cold. "It warms the basement up so the pipes don't freeze and the wind doesn't blow through it."
About 175 vendors focused on home construction, remodeling, landscaping and related businesses filled the convention center for the annual event, which started Friday and concludes today.
"It was a little slow (Saturday) morning because of the weather," said Barbara Miller, of Iowa Show Productions Inc. "It's picked up this afternoon."
Vendors weren't the only attraction.
DIY Network star Paul Ryan, also known as "The Kitchen Magician," held seminars providing tips on home remodeling projects from hanging drywall to plumbing and tiling.
"Let's talk about the bane of my existence," Ryan told the crowd. "Plumping can be one of the most frustrating things you can do or one of the most rewarding if it's done right."
