NORFOLK -- I was training with Vince Heine who's been a plumber for over thirty years. We had to install a couple of sinks and a shower in an apartment on the third floor of a building near the Norfolk Zoo.

"This will take quite a few hours, probably about three," Heine said.

Heine is part of an 18-man team that travels in nine trucks for Norfolk Plumbing. You may have heard of them -- they're the guys located near the Midtown Tunnel who claim the pounding from constructing the new tunnel caused one of their buildings to buckle.

This day, our job was a welcome relief. During the recent snowfall and freeze plumbers across Hampton Roads were extremely busy.

"Me and my helper Carlos put in 73 hours," Heine noted.

"We took 160-plus calls in two days," said Norfolk Plumbing owner Jeff Hux. "So it was pretty active. We had some crews out working till one in the morning, two nights in a row."

Termite & Pest Control Company Helps Out the Boys and Girls Club of Temecula California

    - February 5, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

Temecula, CA (PRWEB) February 05, 2014

The Boys and Girls Club of Temecula Valley has been an important part of this Southern California community and served the needs of local kids for generations. Recently, the Club found itself in need of pest control services, so Board Member Tony Berardino contacted Jeff Gavitt, General Manager of Black Knight Termite & Pest Control, for a termite inspection and bid. This set the wheels in motion for collaboration among many local companies in the pest control industry.

After the inspection, Gavitt spoke with Black Knight CEO Jim Pinneo about the possibility of donating fumigation services for the Clubs building. Pinneo quickly agreed that this was a good cause. Gavitt then approached Lee Whitmore of Beneficial Exterminating about donating their services for the labor portion of the fumigation. Whitmore agreed, and called Stan Woodward from Dow AgroSciences, who supplied Vikane gas to eliminate the termites. Whitmore also contacted one of his direct competitors, Manuel Aguilar from YourWay Fumigation, to see if his firm would help with additional labor.

It wasnt long until Gavitt and Whitmore were coordinating the fumigation with Maryanne Edwards, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club, and Jon Whann, Director of Operations for the Boys and Girls Club. The building was covered with multicolored panels from both Beneficial Exterminating and YourWay Fumigation, as crews from these competing companies worked together to rid the Club of termites and make it safe for the kids and staff to return. The job was successfully completed in time for the New Year, all at no cost to the Club.

For more information about Black Knight and the pest control work they do throughout the Temecula area, visit http://www.blackknightpest.com.

Allied Outdoor Solutions Now Offering Driveway Services in Houston, Texas

    - February 5, 2014 by Mr HomeBuilder

HOUSTON, Feb. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Patios, driveways and other paved surfaces of a home's exterior can look bland and boring, and they can easily fall into disrepair with cracks and fissures. Many homeowners are looking for a convenient and easy way to repair damaged concrete surfaces and to improve the look of boring white or gray concrete. While there are a number of overlay materials that can be applied to concrete to beautify exterior surfaces of a property, one of the best options available is Carvestone. Allied Outdoor Solutions is a full-service company that offers excellent service to its valued clients, and it has recently announced new driveway services for customers in Houston, Texas.

With many types of spray-on materials that can be applied to concrete, the surface will initially look great. These materials are often considered by homeowners because they are much more affordable than repaving. However, the downside associated with using these materials is that they will not provide long-lasting durability for the homeowner. They are generally weak, and they will not hold up well to the elements or to heavy vehicles or other items being placed on them. Because of this, the cheaper overlays generally need to be reapplied over time. Over the long run, these can actually cost a homeowner more money.

Carvestone from Allied Outdoor Solutions is a highly durable and aesthetically pleasing material that can enhance the look of a property while also improving its overall condition. It is designed to have low maintenance requirements and to keep a home looking great for years to come. The application process is simple and easy when homeowners use Allied Outdoor Solutions for assistance. The professionals at Allied Outdoor Solutions will provide personal assistance with the design process, and the application process can be completed with turnkey results. The professional crew will handle all aspects of the application process and will clean up the work area. Altogether, working with Allied Outdoor Solutions is an effective and convenient way to enjoy a long-lasting improvement to a property.

Carvestone is a high-quality material that is superior to other types of overlay surfaces in terms of durability and aesthetics, and the team at Allied Outdoor Solutions can help homeowners to learn more about it and the application process. This is a material that is commonly applied to driveways, but it can also be applied to other concrete surfaces like concrete decking, patios and walkways. Learning more about this material is a great first step that homeowners can take to improve the condition and look of their property.

    About

Allied Outdoor Solutions is dedicated to helping homeowners in and around the Houston area improve the look of their property with high-quality services. Louis Benech, Designer of the Tuileries Gardens, to give Berkshire Botanical Garden's winter lecture in Great Barrington

STOCKBRIDGE -- For world-renowned landscape architect Louis Benech, designing a garden is more a science than an art.

"Gardening is said to be an art, but I think there is no way I am an artist," Benech said in a recent telephone interview from his Paris office. "Artists are more free." Designing a garden "is too technical to be an art."

Finding that balance between freedom and responsibility in garden design will be the topic of Benech's lecture at Monument Mountain High School on Saturday, Feb. 8. Benech will speak at the Berkshire Botanical Garden's winter lecture, which is expected to draw more than 400 guests.

A reception will follow, where Benech will sign copies of "Twelve French Gardens" a book by author Eric Jansen and photographer Eric Sander, which shows some of his work.

Benech is known for his work on more than 300 public and private gardens across the globe, including the historic Tuileries Gardens and the Elysee Palace Gardens, both in Paris, Pavlovsk's rose pavilion in St. Petersburg and the Gardens of the Archilleion in Corfu.

"I am very happy when the garden is gentle enough that somebody is not thinking that someone is working there," Benech said . "I am not into the vision of exotic-looking gardens."

Benech is currently working at the Palace of Versailles on a contemporary garden for the Water Grove Theatre.

In his speech, Benech will share the methods and attitudes to adopt when approaching a garden, whether it is located in France or abroad, historical or untouched by history, with a view to restoration or to pure creation.

"We are very, very lucky to have him and we are honored he has chosen to come and speak," said BBG Communications Manager Brian Cruey. "Louis brings a great mix of new and old. He is considered very fashion-forward in the world of gardening, but still traditional," he said.

    Project is safe, assures developer

KUALA LUMPUR: RESIDENTS of Taman Wahyu, Kepong are concerned about land-clearing activities taking place at a site next to their homes in Jalan Sibu.

They claimed that the development was being carried out on a landfill next to the Batu and Wahyu retention ponds.

Kepong Community Centre head Yee Poh Ping said residents feared that the site was not suitable for development, and were urging City Hall and the Housing and Local Government Ministry to look into the issue.

"The site where the land-clearing is taking place is a former sand-mining area that has become a landfill. There is bulk and construction waste piled up as high as seven metres. The residents want to know if an environmental study has been done on the land," said Yee.

He urged the authorities to ensure that all the building material and waste were cleared before any development on the site.

When contacted, a Mah Sing Group Bhd spokesman confirmed that the area has been slated for the Lakeville Residence project.

She also clarified that the area was not a landfill, as claimed by the residents, but rather, a brownfield.

"The project is not taking place on a sanitary landfill. The proposed development area sits on a construction landfill that can be easily rehabilitated for development," she said.

A brownfield is a piece of land previously used for industrial or commercial purposes. Such land has the potential to be developed once it is rehabilitated.
