A convicted killer who authorities say managed to evade guards and peel through two electrically charged fences to escape a Michigan prison was tripped up by transportation issues once on the outside.

After losing the woman he abducted and ditching her Jeep in an Indiana town, authorities say Michael David Elliot made his way to another Indiana community, where he stole another vehicle. But a sheriff's deputy quickly spotted the stolen Chevrolet Monte Carlo on Monday evening and chased it, leading to Elliot's capture.
No one was injured in the chase, and the abducted woman also wasn't hurt.
Authorities are now left to sort out exactly how Elliot was able to get out of the Michigan prison. Fences were equipped with motion sensors to alert guards. The fences also carry electric current to shock anyone who touches them.
"It appears that did not happen. ... He was not zapped with electricity, and he was not picked up by the motion sensors," prisons spokesman Russ Marlan said.
Marlan said late Monday that Michigan would immediately begin the extradition process. The LaPorte County Sheriff's Department said he's being charged there with motor vehicle theft and resisting law enforcement, but authorities didn't say if he would stay in Indiana to face those allegations.
Officials were stunned by the brazen escape Sunday night. Elliot, who had a record of good behavior during his 20 years in custody, wore a white kitchen uniform to evade security and blend in with snow at the Ionia Correctional Facility in western Michigan, authorities said.

Say goodbye to your old light bulbs. The 2007 Energy Law has mandated that manufacturers must start making incandescent light bulbs at least 27 percent more efficient by 2014. In 2012, manufacturers started phasing out 100-watt incandescent bulbs, followed by 75-watt bulbs in 2013 and 40 and 60-watt bulbs in 2014. In this week's Angie's List report, Nancy Naeve explains what the lighting changes mean to you.
"There are changes on the way for light bulbs. For example, incandescent bulbs are being phased out. If you are not sure what this is going to mean for you, check with your electrician because you might find you have lighting fixtures that will need to be changed,"Angie's List Founder Angie Hicks said. The most common alternatives to incandescent light bulbs are CFL's and LED's. CFL's only need one-fifth to one-third the electricity of incandescent to produce the same amount of light and last about ten times as long.
"They start up initially, but takes them awhile to warm up. So, to reach those optimum light output it's going to take a couple of minutes," Lighting Designer Don Dragoo said.
LED's are up to 85 percent more efficient than incandescent and 10 percent more efficient than CFL's.
"A lot of the LED's require a special type of dimmer. People who are replacing incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs have to be cognizant of the requirements of replacing that dimmer with a specialty dimmer that works in conjunction with the LED's," Dragoo said.
While energy-efficient light bulbs last longer, they do cost more than incandescent.
"When you look at total life of that bulb versus what you paid for that bulb versus what the amount of energy that bulb is using, these are much cheaper. So the tradeoff there is if you want to keep your old incandescent light bulbs you're going to pay more and change them out more. They are going to create more heat in your home as well," GoodCents Managing Director Bob Nuss said.
Lighting is one of the top energy users in the home so when shopping for light bulbs check how much energy the bulb uses because that will have an impact on your electric bill.
"Look at the mission of the light bulb. What are you using it for? If you're just trying to get general light out of it, then I go with the bulb that uses the least amount of energy," Nuss said.
If you're looking to switch over your light bulbs, but can't make them work in existing lamps or fixtures, Angie's List recommends consulting with a licensed electrician or lighting professional.

More demolition grants available for tear downs
Qualicum Beach town council was expected to vote on a motion last night directing staff to proceed with the demolition of the Heritage Forest stable buildings.
Despite an eviction notice in May of last year, and then notification in early November that the building would be demolished, the caretaker is still living in the residence, Coun. Dave Willie said Monday. The motion in front of council last night to demolish the building included the words "when vacant."
"He's still in there," said Willie. "He's had his hearing and he has to be out by the 15th (of February). I think it's over."
Willie said the resident, who has been living at the town-owned facility rent-free for more than seven years, appealed the demolition ruling. The appeal was held with town staff, said Willie.
When council first brought a motion to demolish the facility in November, there was some discussion about saving the stables portion and razing only the residence. The town did an assessment on the facility but Willie said the consensus was it wasn't a good idea to leave any portion of the building still intact.
"To leave a shell (of a building) in the forest is just asking for trouble," Willie said Monday.
The motion in front of council last night also called for the town to refer to Heritage Forest Commission Council "to provide a recommendation describing what the Commission envisions for post-demolition restoration of the site, e.g. natural vegetation, etc."

Demolition date nears for residence in Qualicum Beach Heritage Forest
OSAGE | Whether you wanted the demolition of the Mitchell County Courthouse, there was one thing everyone could agree on Tuesday: It was the biggest show in town.
Streets bordering the 1858 structure the center of lots of debate in the county for the past year were lined with onlookers with cameras and memories. Two television stations appeared to film the progress.
They should have kept it, said Dennis Fischer of Mitchell, who sat in his truck with his mom, Bonnie, to watch Dore and Associates Contracting, Inc., of Bay City, Wis., begin the demolition.
A digger began tearing away at the southwest and west side of the structure before moving to the south side.
Its a straight building, Fischer added, watching the progress. They should have fixed it.
Over 150 years of bricks, wood, insulation and lots of light brown dust mushroomed from the building as the machinery continued to claw at the building. Parts of old vaults could be seen laying nearby; some bricks were being salvaged and placed on pallets. The building was among the oldest courthouses in Iowa and on the National Register of Historic Places.
Demolition is expected to take two days, according to one unidentified worker. The front of the building and cupola being the last to be brought down, he said.
Im like one of those grumpy Muppets, telling everyone what theyre doing wrong, admitted another bystander, who declined to give his name. But yeah, its historic. Its sad. I think a lot of people hate to see it go. But its like someone died and the spirit is gone. This is just a site now. Its no longer a courthouse.
Here is how I feel: Whether you keep the old one or build a new one, I am more worried about the money spent in the meantime. Many nearby agreed it would cost too much to preserve the structure.
The courthouse will be replaced with a new structure that is estimated to cost about $7.2 million. Approval by voters of a new building failed in a recent election, but the Board of Supervisors pledged to go ahead with construction anyway.
